Africa Jolie-Pitt - do you think thats a good name? How about a contest!!
Thanks to our dearest Mike, we already know about this, but Angelina is planning a water birth at the Welwitschia Hospital in Namibia. This article, from Starpulse also makes a MOST interesting mention of the baby’s name:
And the expectant couple has allegedly wasted no time in picking a name for the baby - they have settled on Africa in a tribute to the child’s birthplace.
A friend of Jolie tells British newspaper the Sunday Express, “They know the sex of their baby, though they’re trying to keep that a secret. But they both think Africa would suit a boy or a girl. It’s exotic and mysterious - just like the continent where the baby will be born.”
Catherine, way back in the comments a week or two ago, mentioned that she thought they were going to name the baby Africa. Do you think she and Starpulse are on target?
Lets find out - we are going to have a little baby naming contest. :) I give Catherine first dibs on the name Africa, meaning she wins if that is indeed the baby’s name. The prize will be a $10 gift certificate to Amazon (use it toward the yummy unrated Mr. and Mrs. Smith DVD coming out on June 6th!), and the contest is for the FIRST name only of our favorite offspring. How to enter? Leave your name choice in the comments, they will show up in the order you left them, even if they are moderated, so it will be a great record of who guesses a name first. Maximum guesses per person of 2, any more after that will be disregarded and deleted. I hope this works!
Remember - entry number one is from Catherine for the name Africa. :) Catherine, you are free to pick another as well…

WooHoo!! How cool is this?! Thanks Christina! Now I have to encourage everyone else to join in, cause I really think this article mentioning that Brad and Angie have chosen “Africa” as the name of thier new baby GIRL…is a RUMOR.
I doubt seriously that that’s the name they chose!! (or if they have even settled on one yet!) So, come on … I want to see what people come up with…
Name THAT BABY!!!

Does that mean you would like to relinquish your claim to the name Africa?? Hmmm?? I didn’t think so. Ha :)

Okay, before you go hog wild posting…if any of you dare…:D…. take a quick look at this:
http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/living/14431559.htm
It’s pretty funny, though it’s not. You’ll see what I mean. Satirical.
And Christina…if I win, I can’t do an Amazon certificate, no account there (can’t get one, tried) so I’d like to donate the funds to one of Angie’s charities if thats ok?

Nope, I still choose “AFRICA”, as my first choice.
But thanks for the opportunity to change my mind!!
:D

LOL Ha - that’s what I thought. And you bet, I would be thrilled to donate it in your name. :)

I think the Pitts will name their kid something arabic or hebrew since it’s the popular celeb baby thing to do (suri cruise).
I’ll guess Natania which means “gift of God”, or how about Itamar?
Christina

Well, howdy Leora! Fancy meeting you here. Come to get a taste of a “normal” couple? LOL Leora writes TomKatKrazy here at b5media - I am sure you celeb lovin’ folks read it - he gets crazier and crazier as the days go on. *sigh* I used to love him almost as much as Brad Pitt.
Anyway, thanks for the submission Leora - it is duly registered! :)

I like ARABELLA for a girl.
I like DAVOS for a boy.

Maybe they will name the baby after an African country (i.e.) “Kenya”, “Eritrea” or “Malawi”:
http://www.babynology.com/african
Or maybe they will combine their current names and invent a whole new baby name:

After all my previous waffle, I forgot to add the names for the contest:
1) Keveronique (African-American-French Name)
2)Zalika (Swahili Name)

I haven’t made my choices for names yet, but just wanted to comment on the name “Africa.” I hate to say this, but I hope they don’t do it. It’s intriguing but I’m so afraid it might fall into the mockery-baiting category of “Kal-El” or some of those other extremely unusual names the stars are giving their kids. Am I wrong on this?
Also: Leora, please forgive but I haven’t read TomKatKrazy but will begin today! I wanted to ask if you had read that some legitimate linguist created a new word which will appear in all dictionaries printed in 2006. . .CRUIZY? It means:
“crazy in the Tom Cruise sense”. I thought that was hilarious.

This couple is the only “star following” I allow…only because of Africa and Angelina’s commitment to betterment of people who are outcast from their land/homes. As a mother of 2 I have much affinity to her work for peace and health of the planet. I have named my girl (now 4) Zaire (after the river in the Congo) and I tell her that her name is to bring new meaning to old forms. So far, she’s the only Zaire everywhere she travels, and I know it brings awareness to her of the beautiful continent of Africa.

I just read this on People.com
Brad & Angelina Rebuff Rumors
What is it about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt that inspires such tall and twisted tales? While the power couple lie low in Namibia, PEOPLE – with the help of a connected source – sets the record straight on the most widely circulated myths.
• Jolie has not signed on for Tomb Raider 3 and has no plans to play video-game heroine Lara Croft any time soon.
• Pitt is not trying to convince Jolie to join the cast of Ocean’s 13. (Sorry, George.)
• Jolie is not looking to adopt a Namibian infant – at least not right now.
• The actress is not planning a “water birth” for the couple’s baby-to-be, or to name the baby Africa.
• Jolie’s ill mom, Marcheline Bertrand, is not near death and did not ask Jolie to give birth in France as a “dying wish.”
• Pitt did not purchase for Jolie a “fidelity necklace” as a pre-baby wedding gift. In fact they currently have no plans to marry.
• Finally, Jolie is not planning to buy a small African nation of her own.

I think if it is a girl the name “Amoru” (which I think is Namibian) would be perfect.
Not really sure about the boys names, but maybe “Samende” or “Keon”.

well, all I can say is, thank you to Bethany and PEOPLE Magazine for setting the record STRAIGHT. It’s about time.
I’ll trust what People Mag prints anyday right now since Angelina chose them specifically for the official pregnancy pic because they were willing to do it her way and gave (I think it was $600K) to the charity of her choice for the priviledge of that photo (Yele Haiti).
I doubt people is going to printing BS now, since they are on Angie’s good side so far, and I doubt they’d want to risk that!
I believe ‘em! So glad to here the TRUTH!!!

I couldn’t agree more with Catherine and thanks to Bethany! So much of what we read everyday is just made up out of thin air.
To anamanzana: your daughter’s name “Zaire” is beautiful and I loved your comments about what she and her name represent.

Okay…I’ve come up with my second choice:
Sekai (sah-Kye), is a Zimbabwe name for a girl, meaning….’Laughter’!
Angie’s been doing so much giggling lately that I think this would be a perfect name for the baby!

I still can’t think of an original/beautiful African name for the contest but along the lines of M.P.’s suggestions—what about
Harry? That suggests royalty, sort of. :)
I do love Ajani.

Here everyone is guessing beautiful and wonderfully exotic African names.
Wouldn’t it me ironic if they chose “traditional” names (i.e.) John or Elizabeth
I doubt they would but it’s an interesting concept to consider all the same.
Belle
May 5, 2006 at 1:08 pm
I think that’s a good point. I wondered if Brad might prefer a more traditional name.

Indira for a girl– indicating where the next baby will likely come from
and
William for a boy
Krissy
May 8, 2006 at 3:14 pm
I would like to be part of the naming!!!
~~~~~~~~~
I have to say Catherine, i do think “Africa” would win. It just seems to fit, and i think the donating the money is very wise and sweet!
~~~~~~~~
I’m just guessing but i think they might go with natural((Nature)) names like maybe flowers-
So i guess i choose…Jazemine or…maybe(?)Myra?
And for a boy…Jamie, in honor of her brother?
Catherine
May 8, 2006 at 6:01 pm
Hi Krissy! :) Yeah, I really do kinda like “Africa Jolie-Pitt”…I think given time for people to get used to it, and for her to grow into the name, it’s beautiful, particularly for a woman (girl). But I love Bethany’s guess too: “Ajani Jolie-Pitt”, isn’t that pretty? I have other ideas too, but I already chose my two and I have to stop or get booted off the forum! :( So, suffice to say, that I think your guess of Jamie, or “James” is a very good one! (someone else said William, and thats Brad’s real first name, maybe they’ll put those two together for a boy, huh?)
But, go look at the “Angelina’s Good Works” Message board, read that article…someone is claiming it’s TWINS!!
Does that mean I get two more guesses????
Taraneh
May 15, 2006 at 7:47 pm
I suggest the powerful and forever honored name of Darius AKA Daryoush or Sirus for a boy, after the greatest kings of Persian empire and of all times and fantastic warriers.
I suggest Neda or Hoda which are the promissing whispers of great news from God in Persian or Ziba which means beautiful in Persian.
Last but not least I would like to suggest my name, Taraneh which means a beautiful melody in Persian language.
Best wishes for Brad and Angie for a fun and easy delivery!
Love always and forever yours,
Taraneh Txxxxxxx

I think they are having a boy, and I think they will name it
Willem or William
after Brads true christian name, William Bradley Pitt. (though I’m sure there is not a fan here who doesnt already know that)
