Angelina Jolie at the top of the best paid actress list

by Sherry on November 30th, 2007

Angelina Jolie is sitting up near the top of the list of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses. She falls in just behind Reese Witherspoon at the head of the listing. According to AFP, they both get anywhere between 15-20 million dollars per film. The article also mentions the buzz about possibly getting an Oscar award for her role in A Mighty Heart.

I can not even wrap my head around getting that much money for anything. No wonder she gives so much of it to charities!

I amire AJ because although she has so much but she is so humble. I read something about when she got married the first time she spent $139 and yet she give so much this is an amazing women right there. Most women with this kind of money spend lavishly on material things but she is different. I like AJ and BP

Are you aware that Brad Pitt is going to be on Larry King Live on Dec 5 its on Larry King’s website. Just thought everyone would like to know.

Is it true that Brad and Ange are buying a man made island in Dubai? Seriously, I don’t quite get why the two people who seem to be concerned about environmental issues would buy it. It’s totally disaster to the environment!!!

  • meme
    Nov 30, 2007 at 3:30 pm

yeah Nikki, i posted that as well in another thread. i wonder what he’ll be talking about, i would guess about his projects in New Orleans because he has no movie to promote at the time. But back on topic, i agree with you Sherry, i can’t ever imagine earning that much money for anything. the list did relieve me a bit that she was on top, because she is one of the people in the Hollywood business that knows how to spend her money well humanitarian-wise (charity).

Thanks Nikki. Am glad he finally agreed to go on LK live.

lol@NAT; Go and look for trouble elsewhere. Even flee knows the story’s untrue. Just like the numerous weddings, pregnancies, adoptions and house purchases.

Nat - I never even mentioned that story here at all because I didn’t think anyone would actually believe something as ridiculous as Brad and Angelina buying an entire island off of Dubai. I can’t remember for sure but I think Brad’s PR people even issued a statement saying that this wasn’t even remotely true.

Apparently some people really will believe anything.

I’ve known for years about Angie donating 1/3 of her salary. So know I read she saves 1/3 for the future (smart woman!), and lives on 1/3 of her earnings - the Jolie-Pitts can live a very comfortable life on that.

  • Cook
    Nov 30, 2007 at 5:32 pm

PR rep confirmed that Dubai Island news is false, same as many other rumours circulated by questionable papers just to get sales. don’t write often but read your web site regularly - Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie seems such good fit together. Brad, culturally and politically conscious from the outset (journalist student at university), turned to acting. Angelina turned her youthful energy to good purpose in same directions….perfect. Not sure why so much bad mouthing about them. It includes some negative comments from Julia Roberts in some doubtful sources. Hopefully not true - J. Roberts is charming (frankly not as flexible and potent an actress as Angelina) but who knows, if true, she may be jealous of so much good publicity about Brad/angie’s children…who knows.

    Nov 30, 2007 at 5:34 pm

Nat, you first started off asking if there is any truth to this ridiculous story, but before waiting for a reply to your question, you then proceeded to criticise them. go figure.
for the record, it is not true. cindy, brads PR rep has already denied the story.

  • dianad1968
    Nov 30, 2007 at 5:37 pm

Just to be a little contrary, if both actresses are making between $15 and $20 million, shouldn’t they then be tied for the #1 spot?

Way to go Angie! Proud to be your fan!

Hahahaha speaking of rumors has anybody heard the buying neverland ranch one? hahaha if that’s true than Me and Angie being best friends would be too.

Angie is wise and the way she spends her money is smart. this she can retire peacefully and still have gillizons of dollars to enjoy life with.

angie is one of the least materialistic celebrities around today. she enjoys her life, and she has beautiful clothes and jewelry, (and she should, she works hard for her money), but she is not over- the-top pretentious with her purchases. i remember reading one of her interviews when she was married to BBT and she showed the interviewer the walk-in closets in their home, where she had one small rack in comparasion to BBT whose clothes occupied the remainder of the huge area.
she has always been minimal in acquiring possesions. she has even said she gets paid “stupid amounts of money” for doing what she does. but instead of frivoulously spending it away, she chooses to help others.
i believe that is one of the reasons the tabloids give her so much flak, because she really does not live the typical “hollywood” lifestyle. she does not go on endless shopping trips, does not go to the gym or the tanning booths. if there were more like her, the tabloids would go out of business. there would be nothing to talk about. and that is one of the reasons i admire her so very much.

THE MORE MONEY ANGIE GAVE AWAY. THE MORE SHE EARN. SHE IS A BEAUTIFUL ANGEL . SHE IS NOT SELFISH . SHE SHARE FOR POOR PEOPLE. I LOVE HER AND BRAD SO MUCH.

  • Tina
    Nov 30, 2007 at 7:27 pm

Bob, I came on here to say exactly what you already did. That’s why she gets so much… in the grand scheme of things… it’s because she is so beautiful on the inside that her goodness is returned right back to her… and she will in turn, continue to give. There is nothing more beautiful than that.

Angie helps so many people that are poor!!!Brad and Angie are so kind!!!They have big hearts!!

  • Kari

I think Angelina was already giving away a LOT of money before earning as much as she earns now. I remember the first time she caught my attention was that there was a little caption in the NY Times or some big newspaper saying simply (this was before Brad Pitt but after adopting Maddox) “Actress Angelina Jolie gives $5 million to help Sudan.” And I remember being struck by what a large sum that was. Not your usual token celebrity gesture: Donating a $100,000 (which already seems like a lot) or showing up at some benefit.

There was also an interview on CNN about a year and a half ago in which Angelina Jolie explained that she gives ONE THIRD of her income away to charitable causes. Now THAT”s walking the walk and not just talking the talk. She puts Madonna and everyone (except perhaps BONO) to shame….. Maybe that’s why so many people criticize her, because she shows how puny and paltry their so called humanitarian efforts are compared to someone who is REALLY serious about doing something.

  • irma
    Nov 30, 2007 at 10:47 pm

Angie has been doing a lot of charity works & at the same time dipping on her own pockets to help her charities & refugees around the world, it goes to saying Brad is doing the same too. What a remarkable couple.
I hope, God continue to bless them. Off topic, Donald Trump’s Miss Universe is in trouble, they crowned the wrong contestant. Mr Hair got what he deserves after bashing Angie.

Goodness it must be weird to be Ange - imagine thinking to yourself in bed at night ‘Well, my career is going well… and I’m well-paid… I’ve got great kids…’ and then she rolls over and looks at who? Brad Pitt! She must have a little smile to herself!

Brad and Angie donate tons of money to charities. The other day, I read that the Olsen twins made 40 million dollars last year from their retail empire. I wonder why more people who receive huge paychecks don’t follow Brangelina’s example?

  • Kayla
    Dec 1, 2007 at 1:53 pm

Diana L: A lot of people do give away some of their earnings to charity, but aren’t as public about it as Angelina and Brad are. I think that’s why a lot of people don’t like them…they are very public about what they do to help, but that just brings attention to situations that need it!

I was taught a long time ago from my father, that “MONEY IS LIKE FERTILIZER, SOW IT AND YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD CROP”! Angelina & Brad have that kind of wisdom, and they have been bless umpteen times, and many more are coming their way. I have been an Angelina fan even before she was married to Billy Bob. She & Brad are the best ever celebrites & they are so generous!

Troy is starting pretty soon on tv in my time zone. The story of the Dubai island purchase came from unreliable sources which were not true. Anyway, congrats Angie for all your honors. The thing with Angie, the more she receives, the more she gives to others. Peace. Don’t forget, Dec. 5, Larry King. If you log on, you can email questions to Brad.

I have set up a new group called Maximum Angelina Jolie for those who admire her not only as the world’s sexiest or most beautiful or highly paid actor, but for her humanitarian side and her entire life’s efforts in totality. For people who want to learn from her as I believe she has a lot to teach us.

    Feel free to stop by.

OK, Irma & everyone - here’s some news about the JPs in New Orleans.

Huge pink blocks are signs of hope in Lower 9th Ward, times-picayune, December 01, 2007, 10:49PM
    Read the whole thing: http://blog.nola.com/times-picayune/2007/12/huge_pink_blocks_are_signs_of.html#more

    Excerpts:

On Monday at 11 a.m., actor Brad Pitt is scheduled to stand in the surrealistic scene and announce details of his “Make It Right” project, a plan to create more than 100 affordable, ecologically sound homes where the pink shapes now stand.

Forklifts rumbled here and there. A few spectators wandered between the tent-like structures. A pair of children played peek-a-boo from inside one pink house as their mother watched from nearby. The mother looked familiar to Webb. Slender, dark-haired, with high cheekbones and full lips, wearing an elegant black shift — it was actress Angelina Jolie.

Webb took a chance and approached the star and the handful of people around her, including a large, attentive man who hovered a few yards away. Webb told Jolie again and again how appreciative she was for her and Pitt’s continued interest in New Orleans.

Now Pitt and Jolie are back, lending their considerable cachet to another Crescent City project. As Webb said later: “It is really nice. They’re showing us they ain’t forgot about us.”

As their conversation ended, Webb apologized to Jolie for having intruded. “I don’t want you think I’m a lunatic,” she said. But Jolie invited her to a party Monday night, Webb said as she walked to her car, excitedly recounting her celebrity encounter.

Jolie caught up with Pitt a half-block closer to the river as he was bicycling around the surrealistic site in a gray sweatshirt and cap. He posed for a photograph with an admirer and watched the children splash their feet in a puddle. Then he pedaled off.

OTOH, Filmstew’s dvd reviewer liked AMH & loved Angie’s performance. It’s very well-written, and reading it was almost the same as watching it again (I’m going to watch the dvd one more time). I can think of 4 moments of poignancy. Which moments were the most moving for you?

    Updated figures:

    Domestic: $9,176,787 49.0%
    + Foreign: $9,556,086 51.0%
    ________________________________________
    = Worldwide: $18,732,873

    + $22.48 Million dvd rentals = $41,212,873 -$16 Million production budget = $25.2 Million profit

    Fire Walk with Angelina

You’ll read a lot of reviews about Angelina’s prematurely released Oscar hopeful. But we bet this is the only write-up that connects it back to David Lynch.

Monday, October 15, 2007 at 11:15 AM, by Brent Simon

A Mighty Heart is powered, though, by Jolie’s performance, and her portrayal of Mariane is one of mesmerizingly tightened effect and distress - her very soul seems clenched. Two big emotional moments leapt out for me,..

Mariane is asked if there is anything she would say to her husband if he could now hear her. The answer in and of itself is brief and obvious (“I love you”), but the sing-song, knee-jerk reflexivity of Jolie’s line-reading is heartrending, and a reminder that sometimes the most obvious sentiment is still the most poignant..

Having danced along the razor’s edge of doubt, hope and steadfastness for its entire running time, the declaration feels emotionally devastating. But it’s also moving in a genuine way, one tinged with discernment, and the compassion of tact — qualities that, if more greatly understood and embraced, could surely fuel more thoughtful, sympathetic worldviews.
