Angelina Jolie for Best Actress

The official nominations have been revealed - Angelina Jolie is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for the 2008 Golden Globes. The nomination is for her role as Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart. She is in some excellent company; her fellow nominees are Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth: The Golden Age), Julie Christie (Away From Her), Jodie Foster (The Brave One), and Keira Knightley (Atonement).
Awesome news! It’s not 100% sure, there have been upsets in the past, but often a Golden Globe nominee will end up being an Oscar contender, something we’ve all been hoping for. She was so incredible in A Mighty Heart and I’m so happy to see her up for an award.
Plus, we all know that if either one of them is nominated for a large award like this that it means we’ll be seeing some Red Carpet Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie in 2008! Yay!

I Read Somewhere That The GG Might Not Happen Because Of The Writers Strike. Anyway Angie Totally Deserves Her Nomination. Her Performance Was Flawless. I Also Think Brad Shouldve Been Nominated 4 His Performance In “Jesse James”

Hey Guys! Congrats to Angelina for her GG nom! But HELL YEAH! Where is Brad’s nomination for Jesse James??? I still can’t wait to see that movie! Anybody know if its going to get a wide theater release? Kentucky people like movies too and we adore Brad Pitt…and Jesse James used Mammoth Cave to hide out in…
Sigh, just wait for the DVD.
Hugs to all…off for more finals…just 2 left!

Good Luck Angelina, I hope she wins.
That would put a sour taste in julia roberts mouth after she said those horrid things about the movie and Angies performance.

Cattie - for what it’s worth, I don’t necessarily believe what was written about Julia Roberts. I can’t recall ever reading anything about her that would suggest she is a mean person, and I’m not sure that any reputable sources published that story. With the way the media twists every last thing into as much drama as possible, it’s entirely possible that what she said was taken out of context, turned around, and written in a vicious way.

YAY Congratz to Angie. I was sooo happy when I got home and saw the list with Angie’s name on it. Its a bit disappointing Brad isn’t on the list but I didn’t see Jesse James so I don’t know how well Brad acted. (It’s snowing here! I wonder if the Jolie-Pitts ever seen snow.)
Well this is my list for who I’m hoping to win.
Picture, Drama - Attonement
Actress, Drama - Angelina Jolie (Of course).
Actor, Drama - Denzel Washington
Picture, Musical or Comedy - Hairspray
Actress, Musical or Comedy - Amy Adams
Actor, Musical or Comedy - Johnny Depp
Supporting Actress - Cate Blanchett
Supporting Actor - Casey Affleck
Director - Not sure.
Screenplay - Not sure.
Animated Film - Ratatouille
Original Score - Not sure.
Original Song - “That’s How You Know” (I’m like in love with this song.)
And I don’t watch Tv much so no opinion on those nominations.

I think all of you are growing under a rovk. I have tried to sit through her acting and to date, can not find anything to that does not make me go, well she is another one who got by on her looks. She can not act, and the only reason she was nominated is because of her affiliations and the plot. If you think this is best actress material, you have all got to get out more often!!

Did I miss something? How did this movie not get nominated? Is it just Angelina? I think this movie, quite frankly, was just too smart for most people. You had to really be able to follow political drama, and I think the average movie goer just isn’t there. It is like the Constant Gardener. Or Syriana. Too intellectual.
I loved it. And I show it in Model UN.

A Special Big Fat Congratulations to Angie for her GG Best Actress nomination – she definitely deserves to win and my wish is that she does.
Congratulations to the AMH team who helped Angie get the nomination: writer John Orloff, director Michael Winterbottom, co-stars Irfan Khan, Archie Punjabi, Dan Futterman, Denis O’Hare, and the others, producer Brad Pitt, and last but not least – Marian & Adam Pearl & Daniel’s parents.
The GG love Angie, she already has 3 (Girl Interrupted, Gia, George Wallace) .

“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” was named
Best Picture by the San Francisco Film Critics Circle, which also named that movie’s co-star Casey Affleck as Best Supporting Actor.
(Lou posted the same info on the “Beowulf doing well on Rotten Tomatoes” thread.)
Best Picture is awarded to the producer, so this is Brad’s win. Congratulations!
I think Brad is underrated as an actor - he should have had nominations for his roles in AOJJ and Babel.

Connie, I don’t know if you’re a new member of the Troll Patrol or just another identity of the same person. You are, of course, free to think what you want to. And you are, of course, wrong. And you can keep throwing rocks & insults at us Angelina admirers - we’re not going to change or go away. Water off a duck’s back.
I never get tired of listing Angelina’s achievements. So far, for AMH:
–won Outstanding Performance of the Year from Santa Barbara Intl. Film Fest (previous winners include Helen Mirren & Kate Winslet),
–and got 3 Best Actress noms for the Golden Globes/Satellite/Independent Spirit Awards.
–Can’t read my own writing but Angie/AMH won a WIN – this might be an award for a film that promotes understanding.
–Best Actress noms from the Chicago critics association, and the Broadcast Film Critics Assn. for its 13th annual Critics’ Choice Awards Tuesday morning in New York.
And there were all those raves from critics in AMH reviews saying she deserved an Oscar. Let’s not forget #2 Highest Paid Actress in Hollywood.
Angelina’s past achievements? (To the tune of the 12 Days of Christmas): 1 Oscar (Girl, Interrupted), 2 SAG Awards from her peers (Girl, Interrupted & Gia), 3 Golden Globes (GI, Gia, George Wallace) + 2 Emmy noms (Gia, George Wallace). TOTAL: 21 wins & over 30 nominations (imdb).
Just for the U.S. alone, not counting worldwide which is usually higher (boxofficemojo): Lifetime Gross Total (23): $1,052,282,175. That’s over $1 Billion. Average: $45,751,399. That’s not even counting DVD rentals & sales, which are huge. According to Forbes, for every $1 Angie is paid, she brings in $15 – 2x as much as Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman, etc.
Last, Angelina dropped “Voight” as a last name soon as she started acting – precisely because she wanted to achieve things on her own, and not through association. And most of Angelina’s awards & noms came before she ‘associated’ with Brad.

Updated figures:
Domestic: $9,176,787 49.0%
+ Foreign: $9,556,086 51.0%

= Worldwide: $18,732,873

Fire Walk with Angelina
You’ll read a lot of reviews about Angelina’s prematurely released Oscar hopeful. But we bet this is the only write-up that connects it back to David Lynch.
Monday, October 15, 2007 at 11:15 AM, by Brent Simon
A Mighty Heart is powered, though, by Jolie’s performance, and her portrayal of Mariane is one of mesmerizingly tightened effect and distress - her very soul seems clenched. Two big emotional moments leapt out for me,..
Mariane is asked if there is anything she would say to her husband if he could now hear her. The answer in and of itself is brief and obvious (“I love you”), but the sing-song, knee-jerk reflexivity of Jolie’s line-reading is heartrending, and a reminder that sometimes the most obvious sentiment is still the most poignant..
Having danced along the razor’s edge of doubt, hope and steadfastness for its entire running time, the declaration feels emotionally devastating. But it’s also moving in a genuine way, one tinged with discernment, and the compassion of tact — qualities that, if more greatly understood and embraced, could surely fuel more thoughtful, sympathetic worldviews.

Congratulations to Angie! She really is a fine actress. I remember watching Hackers when I was in highschool and in spite of being a “pop” movie, she exuded such a presence there. Lots of buzz for the Jolie-Pitts this week what with being the Couple of the Year (Brad and Angie by US Weekly like they need some validation from that particular magazine!), Most Influential Child (Shiloh, ff by siblings Zahara and Pax), and Angie’s nomination to GG. So, too bad for all the detractors….! If you can’t say anything good about your fellow human being, just keep quiet. At least the Angie and Brad have made their mistakes, learned from them and evolved as gracious human beings who are trying to do their part to make this world just a little bit better.

Shalom y paz, Pittwatchers! Time flies during the holidays, and it’s already the end of week 2 of the Make It Right/Pink Project. Today I read that $3.5 million of the $5 million to match Brad’s $5 million donation has been raised (http://www.thetowntalk.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071214/NEWS01/71214011). Awesome! That’s excellent news! That $3.5 million includes OUR donations – yay!
The 1st week, 14 of us gave $2425 (!!!) + 5 gave unspecified amounts + 3 made pledges. Doesn’t it feel good? This 2nd week, Akishdebaba & Heather added $65 to our total = $2490 ($10 more dollars and we will have donated the equivalent of a roof solar panel to help cut 75% off energy bills for a lifetime). Actually, I’m sure we’re over $2500 because Ranch donated an unspecified amount.
Thank you everyone – gracias, merci, salamat. Angelina & Brad & Maddox/Pax/Zahara/Shiloh would be so proud of us. The 10 houses paid for grew to 27! Celebrities who gave whole houses: Jimmy Buffett, Donna Karan, and the band Widespread Panic.
If you’re a procrastinator like me, this might have slipped off your busy holiday agenda. I found this:
Give Today
Do it now. It is not safe to leave a generous feeling to the cooling influences of the world. - Thomas Guthrie
Consider this advice on how you can help change the world. And just do it.
