Angelina Jolie in Vanity Fair
There’s a fantastic interview with Angelina Jolie in the upcoming Vanity Fair magazine. I’m not crazy about the picture on the cover because they really overdid it on her - when you’re as beautiful as she is you don’t need a ton of makeup and voluminous hair. Angie has always said that she just puts a nude gloss on her lips because they stand out on their own, so it’s a bit startling to see her in red lipstick. Check it out.
In the meantime, here is the teaser for the full interview which we’ll be able to read when the issue hits newsstands:
Angelina Jolie on being pregnant:
“I love it. It makes me feel like a woman. It makes me feel that all the things about my body are suddenly there for a reason. It makes you feel round and supple, and to have a little life inside you is amazing. Also, I’m fortunate. I think some women have a different experience depend-ing on their partner. I think that affects it. I happen to be with somebody who finds pregnancy very sexy. So that makes me feel very sexy.”Angelina Jolie on her international family:
“When I was growing up I wanted to adopt, because I was aware there were kids that didn’t have parents. It’s not a humanitarian thing, because I don’t see it as a sacrifice. It’s a gift. We’re all lucky to have each other. I look at Shiloh—because, obviously, physically, she is the one that looks like Brad and I when we were little—and say, ‘If these were our brothers and sisters, how much would we have known by the time we were six that it took into our 30s and 40s to figure out?’ I suppose I’m giving them the childhood I always wished I had.”Angelina Jolie on Shiloh’s birth:
“We were in this little hospital in Africa when Shi was born. I don’t think there was anybody else in the hospital. It was just a little cottage, the three of us. It ended up being the greatest thing…. I had a C-section and I found it fascinating. I didn’t find it a sacrifice and I didn’t find it a painful experience. I found it a fascinating miracle of what a body can do.”
Angelina Jolie on nannies:
“We don’t ever have anybody spend the night. We may have to adjust that when the next one comes. But we do have ladies that work with us, and they’re also from different cultures and back-grounds. One lady’s a Vietnamese teacher—wonderful. One is of Congolese descent from Bel-gium. Another is from the States and is really creative and does art programs.”Angelina Jolie on artists as parents:
“Artists raise their kids differently,” she said. “We communicate to the point where we probably annoy our children. We have art around the house, we have books, we go to plays, we talk. Our focus is art and painting and dress-up and singing. It’s what we love. So I think you can see how artists in some way raise other artists.”
I love that she’s enjoying pregnancy since she once thought it was not something she would ever do. What a great change in her life. I guess when you meet the right person, your choices can shift.
The issue is for July and will be out next week.

It’s heartwarming to read they do so much art in the house (that explains all those trips to the art stores!) and that one of the nannies does art programs. As an artist myself, it’s an incredible learning tool and medium for expanding minds and exploring unlimited possibilities, esp. for children. I bet they have the kids’ artwork displayed all over their homes. Can you just picture it? How cute!

I love the fact that no help spends the night. Kinda knocks down the ex-nannie that claims they skinney- dip at 2:00am. Well when would they skinney dip? When the kids join them??? They are into each other and we all know when you have kids you spend time with your partner when the kids are asleep.
Did you catch the Salma Hayck comment on starpulse.com about the papz almost knocking the nanny down when she was holding the baby trying to get a picture, making her almost drop the baby. Sarah jessica Parker stating photographers have moved across the hall from her family and they are bombared with them taking pictures. There need to be laws set in place before someone gets hurt. Mixed in with the papz could be someone who might take a life just to get their name in the paper. The reason I am mentioning this is because, compared to them Brad and Angie are much higher on the money pictures. That must be very stressful. We worry about something happening to our kids because of all the perps out there. can you imagine what it must be like for them????

Or Brad and Angie take care of the nannies by getting them a close by apartment? . . . I think that all thier help is very trustworthy and we will probably never know.

The picture on the cover didn’t look like the Angelina we know. I like the everyday Angelina. As for them not having any sleepover help that makes me like them even more. This couple is trying give their children normal lives, and it is very hard for them to do that when they go out. So maybe they bend over backwards to try and have a normal home behind their four walls.

Please a cover is supposed to look as different from you as artistically possible. That’s what makes them interesting. Angelina’s photo gallery is famous because of all the amazing photoshoots. She has been wearing red lips since she was 16 You will be seeing even more red lips in Changeling. I like it becasue is soo different and her beauty is obviously there. This is very Vanity Fair. For Marie Claire, it would be a lot more different. I love Angelina’s ability to be a chameleon. It kind of reminds me of Brad’s V photoshoot. It was perfect for that magazine’s editorial view.

I think she looks stunning. And if you look closely, it’s only the big hair and red lips that are different. Her eyes and features are just naturally that stunning. I don’t think people should diss the cover just cause she’s made up. It’s a magazine cover, you know? She looks immaculate. I love it. My opinion. :)

I saw another photos inside of VF. Some of them were taken at Brad’s Malibu house. The photos were taken before her belly started growing. Since Wanted was first scheduled to be released in March the photoshoot might be done at the end of 2007 (done 3 or 4 months ahead)
though interview was probably done this year.
I personally prefer inside photos to the cover. They all look arty VF style and she seems to have enjoyed a transformation from mammy’s daily life. I think she perhaps will give another mag covers to promote Wanted. My bet is Entertaintment Weekly with James Macvay & Mogan Freeman and some magazine for young male comic fans. Have you seen Russian redband trailer for Wanted ? It’s marvelous.

The Sun paper reported that Ange had given birth yesterday if i hadn’t have read this site i would’ve gotten excited for no reason! Apparently it said they were both girls and named Marcheline and Amelie. Must’ve been a load of twaddle.

I think there are more incredible photos inside. However, the cover looks like a different Angie, more mature and of course stunningly beautiful. I like her look in MMS. As far as the interview, when they travel, the hired help probably have dwelings nearby or if they are in a hotel, they occupy one entire floor.

I think when they travel the nannies stay with them or close by, but Brad and Angie take over until morning then the Nannies come into play again.
She may have been referring to when they are at home, USA.

@ Sherry
She has worn red before, x2 that I can think of:
1) Once to the Premiere “Women in Hollywood”
2) I think 2nd was Beyond Borders premiere
I think she prefers not to but she does wear colour occassionally.

Angie, her manager Kosinski and his production company Media Talent Group, Brad’s production company Plan B are involved in Atlas Shrugged but not Brad. Lionsgate vice chairman said John Galt will be played by an unfamiliar actor. He wishes Russel Crow for Hank Rearden but my choice is Daniel Craig or Clive Owen.

I find the cover photo interesting, she has a ‘far away look’ in her eyes. Fun that as ever we share loads of opinions about it.
I think she will have enjoyed getting all ‘dolled up’ as she likes to feel sexy.

I love this thread, sensitive, warm and a great place to be for every Brangelina fan. I agree with the fact that as a natural beauty Angie doesn’t need much things to look good. Still I’m loving the Vanity Fair cover, I’m loving everything the bursting red lipstick, the make up and the hair, soo stylish and sophisticated. She is the “femme fatale” at her best. Must be the french side on me to love it.

I just finished reading the VF article. I enjoyed it and thought it was well written. I liked the part where Angie says: “if you don’t feel good about yourself, you want to read crap about other people.” Take that one step further, or write crap about people. I have always said these people who write all the horrible comments don’t even like themselves. Any way I love the article and fell in love with the pictures. The woman is stunning.

I sorta liked the VF article, and once I bought the print issue, I liked the cover more. Overall, though, I was disappointed in Demarchelier (the photog). The shoot just lacks any coherence, and feels a little “phoned in”. One of my all time fave layouts was Brad and Ange in W, pretending to be in a dysfunctional family (http://www.wmagazine.com/celebrities/archive/brad_pitt_angelina_jolie?slide=1); I think I like the grittier, more “real” bathtub shot of Ange in her previous VF issue (see March 2006 at http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2008/07/jolie_portfolio200807)
Still, I really don’t like the front page inside pic for the VF article, which shows Angie looking up with a portrait of a naked woman bending over behind her. Just seemed sort of…lewd? Obvious?

I love all of Angelina’s looks – as her movies’ characters and as herself. My favorite is when she’s in the field without makeup – Wyclef Jean was right when he said something like she was an angel in the fields. My 2nd favorite is the casual hairstyle she’s worn for a long time and is wearing now, with minimal makeup. The Veronica Lake look was OK. I even like her raccoon eyes with Klingon forehead in Wanted.
Another site printed pics of the VF cover and of Jane Fonda as Barbarella – said to be the inspiration for the Big Hair on VF’s cover. I also think the cover is an homage to the 1940s with heavy makeup & cherry red lips. I love Angie in the black & neon green wigs – very sexy.
