Angelina Jolie interview for A Mighty Heart
EW has an absolutely excellent interview up about Angelina Jolie and her time in India to film “A Mighty Heart” which will be released soon.
The article makes us realize that it’s not only in North America that rumors run rampant, because even in the ancient city of Pune, India, there was constant speculation about Angelina Jolie. They published headlines about a terrorist group after her, visits to astrologers for career advice, and other tales.
The article says:
In A Mighty Heart, she stars as Mariane Pearl, widow of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter whose 2002 kidnapping in Pakistan — and subsequent beheading, videotaped and uploaded to the Internet — still ranks as one of the most horrific and tragic episodes in the short, bloody history of modern-day terrorism. Dan Futterman (who got an Oscar nom for writing Capote) has a delicate part in the film as well, playing Daniel in flashbacks; Will Patton portrays the American security officer who teaches Mariane to detangle Pakistan red tape; London actress Archie Panjabi is the Pearls’ closest friend in Karachi; and Bollywood star Irrfan Khan is ”Captain,” the soft-spoken secret policeman who ends up Mariane’s ally.
The article also gets cute, after explaining that Brad and Angelina asked for the specific director but that:
Jolie earned her part in the film the old-fashioned way — she flirted with a producer. That would be Brad Pitt, of course, Jolie’s sometime costar, all-the-time boyfriend, and the dad to her four children.
The making of the movie wasn’t easy, and not just because of the hard storyline. They were constantly followed by the Pakistan secret police while they filmed in the real locations in Karachi and were occasionally harassed for it. They also, as always, had trouble with paparazzi following them everywhere and one of the headlines was actually true because one of Angie’s bodyguards did indeed get caught on video, attacking a photographer. There was also an incident during filming in a Mumbai school that required Brad Pitt himself to speak on Indian TV to regain some calm:
Jolie’s guards were accused of physically blocking parents from picking up their kids, though they claimed they were merely trying to keep the paparazzi from swarming in. Three guards were arrested when the cops arrived
Angie also explained the situation and how it got so out of hand:
”I’ll say this,” Jolie offers. ”We were in a school we were legally allowed to be in. We had permits for exactly what we were doing. And the paparazzi tried to get into the school when we were at the gate, and the parents showed up to get their kids. And the paparazzi rushed through the gates and caused chaos. It was not the film production that caused chaos. We were only guilty of bringing the paparazzi.”
Definitely go read the entire article (but don’t forget to come back and comment here!) because it’s great and I am certainly looking forward to seeing this movie. It sounds to me like they’re already setting her up as a major Oscar contender!

I hope she acts her heart out and is so fantastic she blows everyone’s minds and wins an Oscar. She’s done it before, she can do it again. It is hard to imagine the kind of woman who memorized her lines and acted with such focus during such a challenging time in India, remained close to Brad and her kids and visited orphanages on the side. I have lived for long periods in India and it is a very intense place. The people are unpredictable. Lots of chaos all the time. It’s a whole different world you cannot explain. You have to spend time there. The many times I went there, twice in Pune where they were, there was always a part of me that felt I might not get out alive. Not until, the plane took off and we left the ground did I relax. You have to be awake and present every moment.

i often lurk on this site b/c this family does interest me so. but i have to wonder why you, Sherry, don’t give credit where credit is due to the many tips of your readers. comments get posted and soon afterwards you have it up as a main post, without any mention of the tip you got from a reader. not a big deal, of course, just would be nice to once in while thank those that keep this site as current as possible….
otherwise, the site is great for all the news and photos on our fav family.

I read the book but was not able to finish it. I really want to see her in this movie. The tabloids should publish a letter of apology for all the trash they wrote about Angie.

Thanks for all the positive news feeds. It feels good to know that I can come to this site and read postive things and see great pictures of Brad, Angie and the kids.
