Angelina Jolie leaves St. John

by Sherry on June 12th, 2008

Angelina Jolie leaving St. John

With her family growing larger and no plans to stop acting or working with the UNHCR, Angelina Jolie will get to lighten her load by ending her work with St. John. She has been working with them for three years but they have chosen to end the contract with her. Angelina will be replaced by four new fashion models in color ads. Angelina’s ads were all in striking black and white, shot by one of my favorite photographers, Mario Testino. St. John’s CEO stated:

“Three years is a long time to maintain any campaign, and we felt it was time to do something new and different.”

I understand their position completely because you always need to change things up to hold interest but it’s a shame too because she always looked so sultry and glamorous in the ads.

She is so absolutely gorgeous..even without all the makeup. She has such striking and elegant features in that picture. Thanks so much for your website, I loooove it!

It’s not a shame Sherry. Models contracts are rather for one year or two. Three years deal is quite decent. Personally I don’t like St John, Angie’s photos are incredible, but let’s face it, the clothes are quite oldfashioned in a bad way.

Angie’s contract calls for 3 years. Too bad her contract at St John ended, yet, Angie always looks glamorous & stunning in all those St John outfits. She is one of the best models out there. God bless her & family.

I wish they would publish a collection of her pictures during the campaign. I have collected as many pictures from various websites as I can but I don’t think it’s complete. There is also one picture where she sits on a bench drinking coffee that I could only find a small picture. She is glam by definition.

I have a feeling St. Johns’ sales may go under…
And I will be shock me if they asked Jennifer Aniston to be in their advertisements…

Too bad because she can be dressed in anything and she looks gorgeous in any attire. How about Shisheido, is she still their model?

KFP filmmakers are doing a charity auction on eBay benefitting Conservation International & pandas in the wild. Items include autographed script & posters, art, Po maquette etc.

I’ve used Shiseido on & off since the 1990s - I like their skincare, sun protection, perfume & makeup. They’re quality stuff and last a long time. And of course their association with Angie is an extra plus.

This an example of the BS thrown at Angelina. This is by a ‘well-respected’ critic/author. My answer is below. I like to know what Angelina is faced with so I can be prepared to counter it.

    http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/film/2008/06/biographical_dictionary_of_fil_16.html

“Amusing – if snarkily wrong and way off-base. Granted, you have a way with words with your poison pen knife. You’re self-servingly selective – Ms. Jolie was awarded 1 Oscar, 2 SAG awards, and 3 Golden Globes, including a sweep of all 3 awards in one year for Girl, Interrupted. They can’t all have been wrong. I don’t know if it’s just Ms. Jolie (maybe she unknowingly snubbed you at one time?), or you are generally a misogynist as shown in your contempt for her childcare plans & implying that Mr. Pitt is a p***y because he’s not dragging her around by her hair.

“Whatever, your book was on my must read list. I won’t bother now that I’ve seen an example of your writing aka hit piece. It would be a waste of my time and money. And I’ll be sure to spread the bad word of mouth.”

Ligaya, what the heck is that guy saying? I know I am getting senile and slowing down, but I read that mess twice and didn’t understand anything. My goodness he is filled with such hatred towards the Jolie-Pitts. Who is this guy is he famous????

  • ligaya
    Jun 13, 2008 at 11:40 am

Daved Thomson is very famous in movie & movie critic circles. His book is considered the bible on the movie business. He hates Star Wars & George Lucas too - another reason to dislike him. I don’t know if he’s vitriolic like this to everybody or just a few people like the JPs.

Don’t worry about it - it’s just another example of anti-JP hatred. Like Angie says, you make decisions & take a stand - and there’ll be people who don’t like you.

OTOH, we know how inspirational Angie is. Alicia Keys, Gemma Atkinson & Jessica Simpson are just a few who’re thinking of adoption.

    http://www.showbizspy.com/news/06132008/keys-i-want-to-adopt-like-angelina-jolie

Speaking to WENN at a special screening of the movie in New York City on Thursday (12Jun08) night, Keys said, “I’ve always loved kids. Kids are so important. It’s important to nurture and spend time with them and listen to them. I’m not ready to be a mom. But (adoption) is something that is important to consider. That’s what I really admire about Angelina. I think it’s beautiful the way she embraces children of the world.” And she insists she would like to create a family of different cultures, like Jolie: “We are all one. We’re not as separate as we oftentimes think. So I possibly would (adopt), when I’m more in the motherhood stage of my life.”

    http://www.showbizspy.com/2007/11/14/gemma-atkinson-is-the-next-angelina-jolie-according-to-her-mum

‘I’m a Celebrity’ star Gemma Atkinson is going to be the next Angelina Jolie, according to her mum Lynne. Gemma wants to follow in the footsteps of Jolie and adopt children. Gemma said: “I want to adopt a child from an under-privileged place. I want to go somewhere where there is a lot of poverty, where there is a lot of manual labour work.”

    http://www.showbizspy.com/2007/08/13/jessica-simpson-says-she-wants-to-be-like-angelina-jolie-adopt

Jessica Simpson has said that she wants to adopt children from all over the world, just like Angelina Jolie has. “I think Angelina Jolie has done amazing things. The international adoption rate has skyrocketed, Simpson says. I want to adopt before I actually have my own kids.” 26-year-old Simpson revealed she wanted to adopt a baby for her birthday when she was 16. She visited the Casa Hogar Elim orphanage in Mexico for the first time when she was a teenager.

ligaya, I think you totally misunderstood David Thomson, noted film critic (not to be confused with David ThomPson). I think he actually admires AJ. He writes: “For the moment, Angelina Jolie is just having fun in a society that she has every reason to regard as stupid and fit to be destroyed”.

He perhaps writes in a way that is confusing (see Mary Ann’s comment), but he does write for Salon, which is a progressive online magazine and other progressive and liberal supporting magazines. if anything, I think he was poking fun at today’s society.

  • Rita
    Jun 13, 2008 at 12:25 pm

another quote of David Thomson that to me shows admiration, NOT disgust:

“She (AJ) still does nonsense with a straight face; she still does straightness with a nonsensical smile.”

I think there was a character in Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead that sort of matches Mr Thomson. I forget his name, but the think he wanted to control mankind.

  • ligaya
    Jun 13, 2008 at 2:04 pm

Rita, I did write “Thomson” not Thompson (6/13/08, 11:40) ;-) I did a typo on his first name, though.

I like Salon in general but haven’t agreed with everything they post.

OK. I’ll re-read his piece, but I’m not convinced. And if Thomson is writing a positive piece about Angie, it’s awfully easy to mis-read. I’m not considered slow on the uptake so if I can misread it, will at least half the readers make the same mistake?

Do you think he’s writing in the manner of Jonathan Swift’s A Modest Proposal? Does he always write in this style?

  • ligaya
    Jun 13, 2008 at 2:18 pm

“She (AJ) still does nonsense with a straight face; she still does straightness with a nonsensical smile.”

OK, he didn’t make clear to me that Angie was doing this deliberately/consciously - which would be one thing. I took it to mean Thomson thinks Angelina is an acting dunce who has no sense and does the opposite of what her character is supposed to do. And somehow I can’t see Angelina drifting through Changeling “with a nonsensical smile.” :-)

    EW’s KFP weekend prediction:
    http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20206461,00.html

    Kung Fu Panda
    4,136 theaters · 2nd weekend

It’s not just for kids. That’s the lesson to take away from the impressive bow last weekend of Jack Black’s animated movie, which drew an audience that was about 50 percent adults.

That it has been banking big bucks (some $6 mil per day) during the week, when kids are in school, proves the point even further.

Thus, Kung Fu Panda is destined to pass the $100 mil mark this weekend and, heck, it could repeat as champ if both The Incredible Hulk and The Happening falter.

    Weekend prediction: $35 million

  • ligaya
    Jun 13, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Angelina was snubbed last year for A Mighty Heart and Brad for Jesse James (and for Babel before that). Wouldn’t it be great if they both won Oscars for Changeling & Benjamin Button? They should get nominations, at least. (I know I’ve only seen clips. ;-) )

    6/27 – Wanted
    9/12 – Burn After Reading
    10/24 - Changeling
    12/19 – CCBB

Roger Ebert couldn’t go to Cannes because of a broken hip, but he convinced his wife Chaz to go & send him emails “To Roger from Cannes”:
    http://blogs.suntimes.com/cannes/2008/05/my_dinner_with_clint.html#more

Excerpt from “My Dinner with Clint”: When I took my seat at “L”Echange” I learned that my other tablemates were Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. You will be happy to know that I wasn’t starstruck. I discussed architecture with Brad and the movie with Angelina. When Brad learned I was writing a few articles for you while you were away with a fractured hip, he told a lovely story. It was about the engineer who fell ill while finishing the Brooklyn Bridge. His wife took over and ran the operation. The man could look out his apartment window and see what was going on. It was kind of him to tell me that story. Looking at the two of them up close and personal, I have to report that they are officially the best-looking couple on the planet. I feel sorry that they are so hunted and photographed.

Clint Eastwood pic will open Oct. 24

“Changeling,” a Universal/Imagine production that Eastwood directed from a script by J. Michael Straczynski, also bowed to positive notices at Cannes. It stars Angelina Jolie in the true story of a single mom in 1920s Los Angeles whose son goes missing; when the police return her son to her, she insists they’ve found the wrong boy, and her case becomes a cause celebre.

Borrowing a page from the successful 2003 release of “Mystic River,” Universal will debut Clint Eastwood’s latest movie, “Changeling,” in limited release Oct. 24, followed by a wide expansion a week later on Oct. 31.

A similar fall release pattern — allowing for reviews and word-of-mouth to pave the way for a broader rollout — was utilized by Warners for “Mystic,” which, like “Changeling,” premiered at the Festival de Cannes.

“Mystic” opened Oct. 8, 2003, and played just 13 theaters its first weekend before expanding to 1,467 during its second weekend. Buoyed by six Oscar noms and two wins, it went on to gross $90.1 million domestically.

Man… The Jolie-Pitts really have vanished off the face of the earth… I have to say I really miss seeing pictures of the family. I have grown attached! Addicted !
Well, I guess they have learned how to outsmart the paps. Good for them ! Bad for us…

  • Dudu!
    Jun 14, 2008 at 12:18 am

And I didn’t like that they airbrished her tattoos out. I mean, you got Angelina Jolie in your ads, we all are aware she’s tatted up. Let it be.

  • Dudu!
    Jun 14, 2008 at 12:20 am

HIlarious… it takes 4 models to replace her!

  • Lucy
    Jun 14, 2008 at 12:39 am

Dudu, the outfits of St. John are too dainty/classy to wear and tattoos just don’t fit their styles. Angie mentioned before, they cover her tattoos whenever they are filming. Remember the dance scene from MMS, in Bogota? She was wearing a white sleeveless outfit which shows her shoulders, arms, etc. without any ink. I admit, I like Angie without tattoos myself but I’m from the old school. Brad and Angie are both artists and they enjoy whatever it is they do to their own beautiful bodies. I love them for what they are more beautiful inside.

  • cheryl
    Jun 14, 2008 at 6:56 am

Apparently, someone name Dr Drew(?) , in a recent interview, made some disparaging remarks about Tom Cruise and also question Angie’s sobriety. What? Where is this comming from?

  • Susan
    Jun 14, 2008 at 8:02 am

This comment is not intended to be argumentative, but it is totally appropriate to airbrush away her tattoos for the St. John ads. She is playing a role just like any movie role, none of her movies show her tattoos, with the exception of Wanted, and they are part of the character she is playing.
I love AJ, but the tattoos for me are a distraction, so I am always glad to see them gone. You didn’t see them in the Vanity Fair spread either.

  • brandie
    Jun 14, 2008 at 9:31 am

Don’t worry about the Dr. Drew & Thomas author. These are the people whoare going for a short-cut & fast track to “WANNA-BE” famous. And we know all too well, it’s because of the big “$$”!

  • ligaya
    Jun 14, 2008 at 9:54 am

Kari, I miss pics of the JPs too. As time goes by, I’m getting more used to it. I hope there comes a time, like for Depp & Paradis, that the world will only expect a rare photo or two once in a while.

I know I can live vicariously through the JPs, especially the kids who are so cute. But if no pics mean they can have privacy & live more normal lives, and that Angie & Brad are only in the news for their movies, humanitarian & philanthropic work - and all the tabloid garbage stops, I think it’s worth it. sigh…crossing my fingers…

  • ligaya
    Jun 14, 2008 at 9:59 am

Yeah, people are always trying to make money or get fame, preferably both, off the JPs.

I read about Dr. Drew Pinsky’s inappropriate comments about Tom Cruise all over the internet. This is the first I’ve heard that he said something about Angie. Is there an exact quote somewhere I could look up?

  • Mary Ann
    Jun 14, 2008 at 3:15 pm

Ligaya, I also saw the remarks that Dr. Drew made about Tom, but I didn’t see anything about Angie. I miss seeing the children also, but as long as they are safe and enjoying their privacy I will try to not be selfish. I am also thinking that when we see members of both Brad and Angie’s families going to France we will know it is getting close for the new little ones. Saw that Jon Voight is going to have a recurring role on the TV show 24.

  • marilynn
    Jun 14, 2008 at 3:49 pm

I was watching Showbiz Tonight and what Dr. Drew said about Angie was featured on there. Aparently he said, talking about angie, that someone doesn’t completely stop taking heroin, that they either still use it or are on some kind of replacement drug. I don’t know the exact quote (can’t find it anywhere on the net) The host was saying that Angelina has never admitted doing Heroin, but I think she’s said that she’s done “everything” and I’m pretty sure heroin would fall under that catagory.

Either way he knows nothing about angelina, her life, or her past for that matter. He isn’t her doctor and shouldn’t be making comments like this. I think it’s just for fame and $$

  • Lara
    Jun 14, 2008 at 5:10 pm

Dudu, I had a good laugh over you comment. Good point! Very good point!
Angelina’s photos while working with st. john are absolutetly mind blowing, one of her best pics, if not the best. Gorgeous is the least I cand say about the way she looks in those pictures. Even if she’s not working for them anymore, at least we have a collection of pics from these three years.
And I also think that their popularity won’t be the same. I really am curious if my hunch will be true.

  • Rach
    Jun 14, 2008 at 10:55 pm

I watched Kung-Fu Panda last night. Really hilarious especially the slow-mo bits! I really miss seeing pictures of the family but i guess i’m glad they’re getting some privacy! I heard that the first pictures of the twins could sell for upto $15 million…woah!
