Angelina Jolie presents director award to Clint Eastwood
Angelina Jolie attended the Hollywood Film Festival’s Gala Ceremony last night in Beverly Hills. She was accompanied by director Clint Eastwood, who was honored with the director of the year award - Angelina was the one who presented him with the award.
During the presentation, Angelinasaid:
“There are some people in this business that are icons, and we often wonder if, when we meet them, they’ll live up to what we imagine them to be. And Clint Eastwood in person is even better… Clint is what every great director should be. He is a great leader. And I certainly would follow him anywhere.”
Upon accepting the award, Clint Eastwood then said:
“Working with someone like Angelina Jolie is a great privilege, because you get to look on that gorgeous beauty every day. And she’s a great talent.”
(Thank you, Angela, for the two quotes!)
Angelina looked beautiful in a simple long black dress. I’m really liking her hair this color as well.
Changeling pulled in more than $300,000 last weekend; while that’s not a huge amount, it’s very impressive considering that it only opened in a very limited number of theaters. It’s off to a good start for its official opening this coming Friday.

Thanks, Sherry, for the great pictures and Angela, for the beautiful quotes. After working on the movie they apparently have become good friends who show great admiration and respect for each other. In one of the photos Angie even had tears in her eyes during her speech about Clint Eastwood. What she said about him was very touching.
Angie looks strikingly beautiful as always. I am also amazed at her ability to work so hard and still look so beautiful. Couldn’t believe she has just got back to Berlin from Afghanistan and now in NY. Absolutely no sign of fatigue on her face!

Angie looks fresh and lovely to me, and considering all the flying (France, Germany, NY RC, back to France, Germany Afghanistan, now in LA) that she has done (in less than 4 weeks, New York RC was 10/4) plus twin newborns and 4 children and Brad. Its amazing that (to me) she does not look tired and looks so good. I love this hair color on her. Like fan from Vietnam said “Absolutely no sign of fatigue on her face! ” She is looking more like her mom in every new picture I see. It looks like her life and her good works is agreeing with her :) amazing young woman.

Gorgeous dress! Simple is always the best and she knows how to keep it simple, elegant and classy like no one else in Hollywood. Of course, that gorgeous face, like Clint said and that confident attitude that she always has are a big plus to the overall aspect.
I also think that Angie may have found in Clint what she should have had in Jon Voight. The father figure.

My goodness, all that traveling. She looks so beautiful. Because Brad is working, it looks like Angie is getting some help with the kids. This is good. I know that she and Brad wanted to do it all on their own, but this way I think is fine.

Thanks for the pictures Sherry! Angie looks lovely, as usual! People.com reports that her appearance “was so unexpected, the A-list crowd gasped audibly when she was introduced”. I’d love to see/hear that reaction on a video, if there’s one.
Hello to all Pittwatchers! Let’s all try to watch Changeling this weekend!

Thanks for the pics and quotes, Sherry & Angela. Thanks Lili May for rallying the fans!
Changeling did grrrrrrrrrrrrreat this limited opening weekend - the highest per screen average of all limited screen movies.
We did GOOD! Variety, Hollywood Reporter:
Universal got spectacular results from 15 runs of “Changeling” in nine markets. The Clint Eastwood-helmed pic bowed with $502,000, or $33,441 per house (the highest of all the limited run movies). WOOHOO!
I know some of us were lucky enough to see Changeling this weekend. I’m curious about your impressions – just in general so we don’t spoil it for pittwatchers who’re seeing it this coming weekend when it opens wide in 1800-1900 theaters.
My husband and I really liked Changeling, as much as we liked A Mighty Heart – very different movies with the one thing in common of Angelina grieving and searching for a loved one suddenly lost.
Changeling is a very old fashioned movie told in an old-fashioned way. It’s not like L.A. Confidential that has the same time period and subject, because L.A. Confidential was filmed from a modern sensibility – i.e., we look at what’s happening using our modern values.
Changeling plays like a movie made in that era. It’s a lot like the “women’s weepies” - melodramas from the 1940s that I loved so much, with heroines facing tremendous odds. We become immersed in that world where the good guys are good guys, and the bad guys are bad guys. It was very clear, there wasn’t any ambiguity. The westerns, war movies, gangster movies I used to see as a kid were black and white like that, and not just the kind of film.
The Friday matinee was about half full, and people clapped. The evening show was ¾ full, some clapped. Lots of sniffling in both shows.
The trailers were Gran Torino (Clint in his senior Dirty Harry mode), CCBB, and Australia – the audience liked them all.

Clint is funny. His wife Dina and their daughter were at the photoshoot for the USA Today article (there photos of all of them together – Clint surrounded by 3 females). He told Angie that Dina and their daughter wanted to see the twins, and that he did too but he didn’t want to say it.
I think Clint Eastwood is being very smart and savvy. He’s addressed the issue of Angelina’s beauty and talent head on in his usual straightforward way. Impressed with her work ethic, and always the straight shooter, he’s basically letting the reviewers/critics and audience know to not let Angelina’s other-worldly beauty and the tabloid chatter get in the way of appreciating her talent and acting chops.
Having it out in the open allows the audience and reviewers freedom to focus on Angelina’s performance, instead of her lips and lipstick.

awwwww - I cant stop smiling widely just reading about this AND seeing how happy Angelina is in the photos. Thanks so much Sherry, and ‘Angela’.
Think that Angela really truly would have wanted to present this award to Clint, but maybe she couldnt be 100% certain to promise to do so - who could with newborn twins and 4 other young children - but I imagine the children are all well and this enabled her to get to to L.A for Clint’s award. She looks so happy, and maybe this is what gives her all the energy - sheer happiness, and of course her love and respect for Clint.
She is a true inspiration to us all.
Expect she was back on the plane within hours of this ceremony !!!!!

You know what I think? I think she uses her travels as an opportunity to catch up on lost sleep. Don´t forget she doesn´t travel economy. So she probably uses the time she has to spend on an airplane to sleep, and thus looks rested when the rest of us would have been wrecked!
At least that´s what I would do if I was her!

She looks great. And I think it’s nice that she and Clint get along so well. There are so many conflicting reviews of Changeling, but I’ll reserve my judgment for when I see it. From the trailers though, I’ve got a feeling that while I’ll leave the theater feeling sad, I think I will have enjoyed Angie’s performance.

Haven’t you noticed that Angie is always being compared to other celebrities….More often than not, she is pitted with others just like some of the threads on various sites. Angie VS. A, Angie VS. B., Angie VS. C….. The list of comparisons goes on and on.
Is Angie really that threatening to the celebrity status of other personalities?
I’ll take this as a compliment for Angie because she is always used as a standard of beauty, of talent, of appeal, of humanitarian work, of being a mother, of just anything. Meaning, she is on a high standard!
Angie must really be somebody to be that intimidating that people can’t help but always put her in some sort of a contest with just anyone.
But you know what, even if she doesn’t win on every contest created with her name on it, SHE DOESN’T CARE! She is not that superficial kind of a person because she lives on what is relevant.

Thanks for all the links, everyone. Isacutie, I agree with Entertainment Weekly’s Owen Gleiberman that Angelina wasn’t given enough notes to play – don’t know if that’s the fault of the script or Clint’s direction. Another reviewer said Angelina wasn’t given enough of an emotional range – Christine starts out very emotional to at times, yes, hysterics (I hate the sexism that comes with that word) – but so would I as a mom being ignored knowing that every second lost was a second closer to my child’s death.
Do I like Changeling as much as a AMH? Yes. Was AMH’s Mariane more interesting than Changeling’s Christine Collins – as it was written, yes.
Raves at Cannes were pretty much across the board; since the NYFF, Changeling’s reception has been mixed. Changeling’s Rotten Tomato rating is 52% by T-meter critics, interestingly the RT community’s rating is 79%. Metacritic’s 65 rating = generally favorable, also interesting - users rated Changeling 8.2 out of 10.

I mentioned a while back that a certain group of bloggers who think of themselves as hip cineastes had a very negative reaction to Changeling. The went so far as to cherry-pick the negative reviews in their roundup and ignored the raves. Also, some reviewers seem to have something personal against Angelina Jolie. Take the Village Voice’s J. Hoberman, for example. Check out his Changeling and AMH ‘reviews.’ Were those reviews or hatchet jobs? Also check out http://blog.spout.com/2008/10/02/changeling-review-nyff-2008/#comment-115785 – as one comment asked “was that even a review?” I liked Karen Longwourth – she’s usually insightful. She was just *really* off on Changeling – she might also be a victim of judging Changeling from a modern woman’s eyes and values, instead of a woman from 1928.

• DHC, sorry not get back to your earlier (your post is below). Yes I do know it’s a waste of time to engage the 90% who are trolls/h8ters not interested in discussing facts, just flame wars.
I can live with Boston Globe’s “Our Lady of Perpetually Glamorous Sorrow. Her face (giant red lips . . . ,” even if I don’t like it – it’s an honest review. But, IMO, Hoberman’s “Our Lady of Humanitarian Narcissism“ begged to be challenged.
Believe it or not, I do have a strategy about whom to engage and how: I won’t repeat my starfish theory now – aside from my belief that even one post refuting lies is good, even if it’s just for the reader to know there’s a different viewpoint out there. I choose my battles – not respond to all but only the most important issues (humanitarian issues, the kids) and in the most widely read publications/blogs. Some days I post nothing, most days one, some days more.

You know, Ligaya, I actually think arguing with people that post negativity just eggs them on. Why else would they do it? Clearly, anyone who takes the time to knock someone else’s life in such a time consuming way, is looking for attention and feeling unhappy with themselves. I choose to ignore them. I admit to living vicariously a little bit through these two famous people, but I have no desire to get caught up in word battles with people who seem utterly irrational. To each their own. Who are any of us to judge other people? Vote and wait for jury duty, instead!

Hello Brange fans,
Once again, I come to this site and feel at home. No ugliness just great conversation. Thank you Sherry. Others could take a lesson from you. Some of the other sites are out of control. Negative comments just for the sake of being negative. I do not think Brad and Angie are perfect. I can see the negative (not much) and the positive. But to hate on them because they are who they are is outrageous. That being said, I did go to the Oprah website, and Brad is going to be on the show. I had thought that Oprah had blacklisted them. No evidence but that is what I felt. Cate will be there too. I am so on cloud nine. Angie’s movie on Friday, them Brad on Oprah, then Brad and Angie on the Red Carpet. Too much goodness for my heart to handle. I am hoping everyone see the film there are estimates that it could take in 10-11 million. I think the fans could really put it in second place. That HSM thing will be in first. I don’t get it, but I’m over 12.

The Hollywood Film Festival was a reunion of sorts. Dustin Hoffman (Kung Fu Panda) was honored for his Lifetime Career Achievement. Angelina presented Clint Eastwood his Best Director award. Michael Kelly (Changeling’s Lt. Ybarra) and Taraji P. Henson (CCBB’s Queenie, Brad’s adoptive mom) were honored as two of Variety’s Ten Actors to Watch.
Speaking to myrtlebeachonline: “I feel really blessed,” Kelly said. He prizes one particular scene with Jolie, the movie’s main character, a single mother seeking her missing son. “It’s really a great little piece that I’m really proud of,” he said. For the film’s North American premiere three weeks ago in New York, he joined about 30 cast and crewmates and family members for dinner out. “Brad was there,” Kelly said, referring to actor Brad Pitt, Jolie’s significant other. [Wish *I’d* been there – what a thrill.]

Boxofficeguru and Boxofficeprophets are both predicting Changeling will bring in around $9 million for the weekend. OTOH, KFP & Wanted surprised them big time.
It will be hard for Changeling to get #2. Dramas don’t have the same draw as HSM3 (tweens, teens, girls), Saw V (horror fans, guys + girlfriends), and the Porno comedy (Apatow fans, guys + girlfriends). The box office guys are forecasting that Changeling will come in #4. Nothing to be ashamed about - that’s just how the demographics go.
