Angelina Jolie speaks at conference, looks for more funding

April 26, 2007 by Sherry

You just can’t slow her down. No matter how busy she is, she can always find time to continue to strive to make a difference in life - Angelina Jolie spoke at a press conference today in Washington to announce the launch of Global Action for Children. The aim of the group is to raise money for orphans in developing countries.

Once again, People Magazine is on top of things, reporting the story here. Angie is quoted as having said:

“I am here to simply ask you to think about orphaned children not as a burden but as a great opportunity [...] Their education is an investment in our future. … They have had to work very, very hard to survive, but when they are given a chance, they grow strong, stronger than most. … The Lost Boys of Sudan are a great example.”

(You may recall that The Lost Boys of Sudan is the group that is building the clinic in Sudan, to which Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt donated $100,000 last month.)

GAC is hoping to raise funds for orphans in developing countries by an extra $2.5 billion per year. The article states that Angie and GAC executive director Jennifer Delaney met with some top leaders at the State Department to discuss the growing need to help children around the world, including universal education. Delaney claims the meeting went very well.

The article links to two other wonderful articles previously published in People, one outlining their work in relation to the genocide in Darfur, as well as the work that Brad Pitt is doing to rebuild New Orleans

Be sure to check out the article and then come on back here to discuss!

Thanks for being fast and updated Sherry.

This is the reason why I admire more Angelina Jolie. I think nowadays, it’s more important to her this kind of functions rather that the hollywood type. This is where her heart incline more, specially with her personal experience of seeing first hand the horrible conditons of some troubled countries, like in Africa, where she was recently visited as an Ambassador as UNCHR. The horrible conditons she witnessed most specially involving the children of these countries.

I commend Angie and also Brad for giving time and effort to a great cause. They are indeed both the most beautiful people inside and out.
She has pictures of this event at JJ where she looks very skinny. I hope she gains more pounds before the Wanted filming and for her health too.

I was just reading the comments at the JustJared site and someone had mentioned if you notice a “bump” from these pictures. We don’t want to start rumors which will feed the tabs. But do you see it? It might be a Shiloh leftover bump or a new bump? Anyway, no big deal, you know how Brad and Angie keep secrets first.
Also, prepare for a National Enquirer sensationalism journalism that “Angie has a secret illness that is why she looks emaciated and anorexic and she is losing her hair, etc.” Brad and James Haven are too worried, blah, blah. And I’m sure Star, Us, Life and Style, OK will pick up on this. BOYCOTT these tabs.

    Thanks sherry for the updates.

These tabs just need to be sued just once….
    1) Us weekly calling her a liar and worse
    2) Us weekly calling her and her brother money hungry…(DM article)
    3) L&S/Star/In Touch can’t make up their minds whether they are still together or not. Meanwhile only Brad will help put “poor Jen” back together again!
    4) NE, now reporting she has a “deadly disease”.

    WTH!

There are sick people out there who wish all these things on this family, because they keep buying the ‘mags’. L&S has been shown to have increased their sales two weeks ago with the crap they printed re: Brad & Angie.
