Angelina Jolie talks about Changeling and Clint Eastwood on the BBC
November 17, 2008 by Sherry
Simon May of the BBC Radio was lucky enough to sit down today with Angelina Jolie to discuss Clint Eastwood and the making of Changeling, which opens soon in the U.K.
I really liked her analysis of Christine Collins, how hard it was for her to be a single mother in the 1920s, and the ways she was a bit of a timid woman until she started fighting back.
I’m still so shocked by the fact that so many women at that time were locked up in a mental institution just because the police said so.
Angelina also mentions that one of the hard things for her was to be a modern day woman portraying a woman in that era and to listen to the things that the characters would say to her that she instinctively wanted to respond to or roll her eyes about. Instead, she said she had to just bow her head and apologize as her character.
Simon said that not only was it a difficult role for Angelina (she agreed that it’s just the sort of place that no mother ever wants to go in her mind and that she had so much trouble just filming scenes where she had to say anything about her child as missing), but that she made it hard for people watching her – he used the term that she really put them “through the wringer” which is what I keep hearing from a lot of people.
In other news, Angelina Jolie will be featured on tonight’s E! True Hollywood Story. That will be interesting to see. I’m not sure how positive it will be since their description of the episode is:
This 33 yr. old Oscar Winner is one of Hollywood’s sexiest stars, and her public image has evolved from quirky, blood sucking wild child to devoted single mom and philanthropist.
Blood sucking?? Seriously? Also, although she’s not officially married, I hardly consider her to be a single mom. Brad Pitt, anyone? However, I’ll watch it with an open mind to see what they have to say. Check your local listings for times in your area.
(Thanks Ligaya for the video link and thanks Heather for the E! link!)

Hi Sherry, can you please write a post to remind the loyal fans to vote for brad and angelina in the 2009 People’s Choice Awards. Angelina is up for two awards: Favorite Female Star and Favorite Female Action Star. Brad is up for one award. And vote for Kung Fu Panda as well (Favorite Family Movie). Thanks!
http://www.pcavote.com/pca/
I even created 5 different accounts so i can vote twice in one day (using my office laptop and then my laptop at home)
pretty hardcore right?!
but if they win, then it means we’ll see them during the awards night… and it’s always a good thing even if this is not really the Oscars!
Brad is up for Favorite Leading Man. This and all the other 3 awards Elli mentioned are in the “Awards” catergory. Angelina is also up for another award in the “Games” category: Favorite Star Under 35.
Let’s Vote!
I vote everyday & I urge everyone to do the same.
Angie is very articulate in her interview. She is brains & beauty. God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.
i’ll check that out later tonight. btw, that blood sucking thing made me laugh really hard, what do they think angie was before brad, vampire?
Haha single mum. Seriously? I must be hallucinating.
BRAD AND ANGELINA ARE IN LONDON NEW PICS AT JUST JARED

So I just went and voted for AJ and Brad and a couple of other things and I didn’t like one musician, singer, group or song up there. What is happening to the music industry it just sucks.
yes, the interview where AJ tears up is also on USWeekly’s site.
also, love this very sweet photo, from Lainey

Went to Just Jared to see the pics. Now don’t everyone jump all over me, but I don’t think the pants and blouse is doing anything for AJ. It is my least favorite thing I have seen her in, in a long while. Brad looks good but I didn’t like the off white/beige hat with the grey and black.
i tried to check our local listing of channels and we only had ETH of Hulk Hogan and Melanie Griffith. I hope somebody could record it and upload it. are they just gonna add shiloh, pax and the twins in angie’s old ETH or it’s a completely new one?
The interview with BBC gentleman was excellent.
I still have not been able to go and see the movie and I hope it will happen this weekend.
I saw about the E hollywood story, Angie already had one, they have probably updated it to include the twins. They have updated it at 2 times. I found the first ones ok, not ugly really. They have a few parts that should have been taken out. Her Dad had a part, and they talked too long about when she was little protesting for her teacher; cute but it took too much time, I wanted it to be more about Brad and the kids. I’ll watch it to see. I was looking on my local station I nothing just Hulk Hogan.. maybe I missed it.
Yeah, this outfit doesn’t have Angelina’s and her stylist’s (Jeniffer Rade?) usual KAPOW! factor. Maybe the twins upchucked on whatever she was going to wear and she had to change at the last minute, lol.
UNDER MOD:
maybe the twins had something to do with her outfit . . .
I think this interview is very comprehensive. Angie is deep, very smart and humble. Brad is lucky. For those who did not see the movie yet, the BBC guy nearly gave the ending here.
(Hi, posting this from café – internet provider problems since Monday – hopefully fixed Wednesday – transportation problems – aargh!)
Debra77, like yours, my station had Hulk Hogan, not Angie. I had the tv on a few minutes early, and the Daily 10 had Angie’s tearing up at her press conference as their #1 celebrity story of the day. I’ve seen E!’s THS Angelina story, and I thought it was generally fair and positive. It’s been updated a couple of times, and I’m interested in how they’ll do it this time. They can shorten the parts with Jon.
Actually, I like the part about the teacher because it showed me that Angelina’s sense of anti-racist justice and international peace was taught to her by Marcheline, and that her activism started early by organizing her classmates to rally around their black teacher. I think this is where I learned that Angelina and Marcheline used to go to Amnesty International fundraising dinners when she was little, and that when Angelina was an actress she and her mom backed a film with or about Native American singer/poet/actor John Trudell along with setting up a foundation for Native American causes.
