Angelina Jolie writes back to children in Taiwan
April 17, 2009 by Sherry
Here’s a great way to kick off your weekend with a smile – over at Brad Pitt Watch I read that a school in Taiwan was teaching children to write in English. To put their work into practice, they all wrote letters to some of their favorite celebrities, including Angelina Jolie, Daniel Radcliffe, and Will Smith.
In their letters they wrote about how much they loved the stars, the movies they had seen, and asked questions. Before sending them off, they also drew pictures and added their own photos. Many of the Angelina fans drew pictures of her face or scenes from their favorite movies such as Tomb Raider.
The teacher explained that it was just for practice and for fun and that no one – not even the kids – ever expected replies.
They were pleasantly shocked when every single one of them received an autographed photo of Angelina in reply. Daniel Radcliffe, it should be noted, was just as kind and did the same thing.
I love it. I know that Angie may not have been able to take care of it personally, she probably had someone help her out because celebrities generally don’t have the ability to keep up with their own fan mail, but you can probably bet that she was the one who asked that the replies go out – because you know how easily children touch Angelina’s heart.
Between my local news show and the stuff that generally headlines CNN and the like, there’s a lot of depressing bad news out there, so hearing a happy story like this just makes my day.
Read the full story on the teacher’s website, where you can also see photos of her students with the signed pictures.

Sherry,
This is one of the many reason I admire
Angelina. She is so sweet and compassionate.
You can tell in her face and eyes that she has a beutiful soul.
Me too Mima thats why whenever they have a Movie i try my best to support them.Christmas I went and both the KEIHLS bodywash at Holt Renfrew here in Toronto for myself and all my friends as gifts and we all loved it anything to support Brad and Angie.May God keep blessing this woman and her family,I really hope Brad knows how lucky he his to have this good hearted woman.
I read the Teachers website and what made me tear up is the part about Americas Princess Diana,Angelina Jolie the movie star that continues to talk the talk and walk the walk.
I love the Jolie PItts
Awww, Angie is so sweet! I am so touched that she took the time to brighten up the kid’s lives. I’m sure the kids were very happy and will remember her gesture forever.
Angie is truly beautiful – inside and out!
I totally agree with everyone, I admire her to who she is inside, you can sense if a person is a fake & Angie is her true herself, very honest & straight forward.I started supporting her charity ” Doctors Without Borders” through salary deduction at work & my other charity very dear to my heart for the blinds. No new news yet about the Jolie-Pitt family? I miss them. God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.
Sherry, thanks that is the most beautifull article I have read in a long time, it make me happy to be a fan of Angelina.
Kids are so honest, when they say they love you they do mean it. I did not know Angelina meant Messenger from god. Jackie, Brad knows how lucky he is,don’t you see the way he looks at her he knows. May god bless that family always.
You are so so right Christy!.
I haven’t posted in quite some time but this article just touches my heart and makes me teary-eyed. As an educator who knows first-hand the challenges students face, let alone those in foreign countries learning English, the fact that Angie responded is proof of her big heart and acknowledges to the students that they do matter. I can just imagine their shock and joy at Angie’s gesture. What a powerful lesson their letter-writing project turned out to be, something that will impact them for the rest of their lives. What a great story. Thank you Randi and Sherry!
Oh my! Thank you. A very touching article. As you say Sherry this touches the heart and is so much more positive than some of the sad news like a murdered little girl by the name of Sandra Cantu, God bless her little soul. And sadly so many more that you have to stop reading or your heart breaks alittle more. These are the things you want to hear about involving children. Its like being injected with a breath of freah air. The fact that Angie was kind enough to respond, is to me what it is all about and she cares. Boy I bet she make some children very, very happy! Bless her.
That’s very sweet but those autographed pictures are probably just pre-prints. I have an identical one from when I wrote to her five years ago. Many celebrities pay a professional service called Studio Fan Mail to receive their mail and reply with a pre-print autograph to everyone who writes, regardless of whether or not they ever actually read the letter.
Daniel Radcliffe also uses pre-prints as well. Still, it’s very special that they took the time to send the whole class pictures.
I forgot to add, if anyone here would like their own pre-print of Angelina (for free) all you have to do is email this address:
angelinajolie@studiofanmail.com
Just include your mailing address and they’ll send you one.
angelina is such a great person, she is beautiful inside and out,im am very happy with this article.I admire her in every ways.hope she will not change, and hope brad will take care and protect her all the way he is very lucky to have angie, such a beautiful person.may god bless her and her family.
this story really touched me..
she really has a pure and great heart..
not all stars can be like her..
but anyway she’s not your ordinary star..
she a star that you can reach with your bare hands.. and you will not burn yourself when you touched her,,
she’s truly an angel in disguise..
as a future teacher i am thrilled about how this simple teacher in Tawian can make a difference in teaching students english by writing to their fave stars.. angie sure loves kids but this totally got into my heart.. i can’t say.. i feel warm inside when i read the story and see the pictures.. aaww…
I loved this story when I found it – it’s just so absolutely sweet! And I’ll bet, knowing Angie, that she looked at every single one of those letters that the kids wrote!
God Bless the Jolie Pitts.
Angelina Jolie really lives up to her name…. Pretty angel…
This is an instance that publications should put in their stories instead of lies & no human interest at all.
This some experience of a manifestation of AJs goodness of her heart truly inspires not only the Taiwanese children, the English teacher but also other children who are the future of the world and the teaching profession.

“One of the reasons I’m a fan of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, particularly them as a couple, is when they show up at events, you get a sense of Marlene Dietrich,” Goldman said. “The glamour of Hollywood is what’s gone.”
- museum Executive Director Seth Goldman
ZAC EFRON was on Jimmy Kimmel recently to promote his new movie 17 Again and he talks about Angie.
Jimmy Kimmel: When you are around celebrities, is there anyone that you freak out around? that you go crazy around?
Zac Efron: Not usually, I don’t usually get starstruck but uh, for some reason, I always screw up whenever I meet Angelina Jolie.
Jimmy: In what way do you screw up?
Zac: It’s just awkward, I can’t really explain it. I mean last time I saw her, I was at the Oscars and she came up and said “Hey how you doing” and I went ……”Thank you” – and I turned around and went “Aww God”" and I just walked away and everybody saw it, everybody saw it, (everyone) was laughing and pointing at me.
And another time, I forget, she was like across the room and she walked in front of me and I yelled like … she looked at me, we made eye contact and I was like “Hey, hi, how you doing?” and I don’t know if she didn’t hear or what but she turned around and I was like (waves) … oh God, that was really bad and she looked back and she saw me say that. She was looking at me while I was saying “Aw geez” and shaking my head.
Jimmy: Wow, well maybe she was scouting to adopt you or something
Zac: I wish!

Pre-prints or not, I’m betting that if Angie hasn’t seen those letters yet, she’ll make sure to read them once she hears this story.
Will Smith is very conscientious with his fans so he’s likely to respond soon too.
TOTALLY OT: Kim and Mary Ann, posted messages to you in “new IB clip” thread. Neela, would you please email me at jlf@igc.org? And anyone in Sacramento interested in a mini-’meet up’ May 9-10 to watch SUGAR?
Thank you Sherry for posting this wonderful article. It is such a heartwarming story. This is one of many reasons hhy I am a fan of Angie!
Hi everyone! I live in Taiwan so this makes me super happy! As some of you know this is a very developed island nation but unrecognized because of China’s efforts to keep them in the shade. Angelina is an amazingly compassionate and thoughtful lady.
i agree with amanda, this pics are definitely pre-prints,(it’s always that photoshoot with angie in a black jumper that are used to send out pics) but it is still nice that angie’s staff make angelina aware of things like this, and i am sure angie would be informed of kids like these.
Sherry, thanks so much for this wonderful story. I agree with you that there is so much sadness in the world now a days, so this was like a breath of sunshine. This is one reason why I don’t worry to much about the Jolie-Pitts long lasting relationship. These two people would never do anything to hurt their children. One of our Pittwatchers remarked that Angie would not get involved with any man who would break Madd’s heart. She chose to trust Brad, and I believe that he would never break that trust.
aww… our Angie is such a sweetheart. god bless their family.
Ligaya, maybe you’re right. But I’m pretty sure Angelina would not have seen the children’s letters up to this point, just because the Studio Fan Mail offices are in Los Angeles and the Jolie-Pitts haven’t been there for any length of time lately. Also, I’m guessing that due to the volume of mail she receives, it’s rare for her to get to chance to read individual letters. There are lot of people out there with, I’m sure, very inspirational stories to tell Angie by letter, but it’s not uncommon for a celebrity to receive over 1000 letters a week. And I’m not sure how she’d feel about singling some letters out and leaving the rest.
God bless Angie, she has such a good heart.
By the way, I’m not trying to be downer on what is a completely sweet story, so I hope no one felt that way. I’m just trying to be realistic about what actually happened. Many, many children, from all countries around the world (as well as adults, teenagers, older people) with all sorts of stories (illness, poverty, terrible loss, and triumph over the odds) will have tried to reach out to their inspiration, Angelina, and tell her how much she means to them. But the reality is, as much as she wants to, it’s likely impossible for her to see the letters, much less respond. She has six children, a career, and humanitarian commitments, and is rarely in the same city very long. Paying the company to respond with PPs is just her way of saying that she appreciates people taking the time to write, because it’s definitely much better than getting nothing at all in reply. Does that make sense? Again, sorry if I’m being a downer.
sweet story ! I appreciate your insight, Amanda.
Pre-prints or not, this is a very sweet story! Imagining those students’ faces when they recieved those photos makes me smile!
This is totally off topic but I have to vent my outrage!
I just read that Madonna was injured – luckily not too seriously, thank goodness – after falling of a horse. The reason that she fell? Paparazzi hiding in the bushes jumped out to get a photo of her and STARTLED HER HORSE.
We just lost Natasha Richardson because of what appeared to be a very minor fall on a ski hill. Madonna’s injuries could have been fatal or very severe – just think of what happened to Christopher Reeve.
The whole mentality of “I have to get the money shot” is becoming out of control. THIS is why Brad and Angelina are tryings as hard as they can to keep their kids out of the spotlight, despite what naysayers might think – because it’s too easy for things to spiral out of control.
I am just so angry right now, and I am very thankful that she’s okay.
Story here: http://www.ryanseacrest.com/blog/whats-happening/madonna-suffers-minor-injuries-after-falling-off-horse/
Sherry I read this article just before logging on here and I also thought of Natasha Richardson and how easily this could of happened to Madonna. Its alittle scary that the simplest of injurys can cause the most devasting outcome. I hope she presses charges. Something needs to shake these people up and who they work for. I’m not sure who’s worse the employee or employer!
angie is such a sweet heart!
I know it is off topic, Vanessa H. also mentioned Angie being her favorite star.
Thanks Sherry! That was sweet and I had to smile that this teacher, sans cynicism, probably didn’t expect the feedback, hits and good-will her site just garnered. Funny isn’t it, that this kind of story never seems to be picked up by the tabloids even though her attached name virtually guarantees $$$$. Which just goes to show you that even without their ‘dollar’ considerations, they are a sordid bunch.
What a sweet story. Thank you, Sherry!
Why do you think we haven’t seen any pictures of them together. Some tabloid said since Feb.
I wish we could see some candid shots because I wonder what she’s wearing these days off the set.

Who do you think has the best style in Hollywood?
“When I did [ABC's] Oscar show, I was amazed when I saw these people up close who I used to see only from afar and in the tabloids. Anne Hathaway and Penelope Cruz are simply staggering. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are otherworldly. They don’t look like they should be on this planet.” – TIM GUNN
Neer that link does not work and I want to read the whole thing, could you post it for me Please.
I haven’t visited this sight in ages, but I wanted to say that this was a great story to read. I currently live in Taiwan (Taipei City) and I know without a doubt that those children would have been over the moon to have received the autographed photos not only from AJ but other stars as well. People tend to be very modest here without thinking too much of themselves and will often go out of their way to help others and expect nothing in return. Any type of praise given to people here is easily dismissed with a bashful shrug and gifts given freely are often accepted with shock and embarrassment. So to receive something special like that and out of the blue for simply writing a letter would have been most sincerely appreciated with tremendous smiles and heartfelt gratitude.

We also haven’t seen pictures of Angelina with her kids since the same date.
And we haven’t seen pictures of Brad with the kids since March 6 and March 16.
Why? Simple. The paparazzi can not get them.
This is certainly a heartwarming story. The content is near and dear to my heart since I was born in Taiwan and adopted by an American couple when I was a year old. It’s wonderful to see how Angelina Jolie and Daniel Radcliffe respond to children’s correspondence. It also shows how teachers can make a difference. Thanks for posting this story, Sherry. You just made my day.
