Angelina Jolie’s W cover

by Sherry on October 9th, 2008

Be still my beating heart. Have you seen the photo of Angelina Jolie breastfeeding on the cover of W? It is gorgeous, intimate, and a peek inside the real side of their lives.

I can not WAIT for the full magazine to come out!

absolutely tastefully done, that photo. There are polls on various sites asking us to vote as to whether that photo should be on a cover of a magazine or not. I think it’s a great endorsement of breastfeeding (if one is able to do so).

    Beautiful.

Om the W magazine website, there’s also a blurb about Brad, The Perfectionist…take a look:

I think it’s a beautiful photo. To be honest you can barely tell she’s breastfeeding - we’ve seen more skin on many other people, and she looks beautiful - i think even more than when she’s “made up” at premieres, etc….

I do think the photo is beautiful, but I am a tad confused as to why they wanted to share such personal and private moments on the cover of a magazine? I’m not really criticizing them (because they have a right to do what they want), but I was surprised they decided to do this…they appear to really enjoy their moments of quiet and calm without flashing cameras…it just seems so completely personal (breastfeeding is that special time when mother and child bond)…maybe not moments you really want the entire world to see…so, my question is- does anyone know why they decided to agree to share these photos with the public?

This is a set of photos that Brad took himself susan I believe they wanted the world to see them as they see themselves, without the makes lights or the stalking photos you see from the paparazzi

We all have different ideas of privacy, e.g. breastfeeding in public - when I was growing up in the Philippines, it didn’t matter where - jitney or wherever - when that baby demanded feeding, their mothers fed them. The moms would unbutton their blouse, put the baby to her nipple and then cover herself with a handkerchief or similar thing. Nobody thought anything of it, it was just part of normal everyday life. Even the priests had no objection. Most of the mothers on celebritybabyblog are thanking Angelina and W magazine for taking breastfeeding out of the closet.

I think Brad and Angelina are balancing privacy and the public’s demands. Look at us, in every thread don’t we say we want to see their photos? They’re throwing a bone to the monster with the huge maw to keep it from invading their life completely. It also may be their way of countering all the vicious rumors of breaking up, post-partum depression, forced therapy, etc. Pictures tell a different story from all the tabs’ headlines and h8ters’ comments out there. They haven’t invited us into their homes, as other celebrities have done; they’re not in a reality show. And Brad is taking the photos, not some pap.

Brad probably considers his photos his work of art – I agree with him. Many artists – photographers, painters, sculptors , writers, filmmakers - portrayed the women and children in their lives (often nude), do we consider that a betrayal of their loved ones’ privacy? So it’s a continuum from 100% privacy to none.

Ligaya - you are correct - i work for a photographer and when his wife was pregnant he took many nude photos of her belly, and they were also beautiufl. I think Brad and Angie will treasure those photos forever, and being a fan of photography myslef, I think Knox and Vivienne will cherish them as well when they get older. we are very lucky that they decided to share them with the world

i’m not keen on the cover. i don’t mind that it’s an image of a mother breastfeeding, but i think maybe there may have been better ones (breastfeeding or not) to choose from the contact sheet … maybe. on the one hand, the cover is a bit reminiscent of old life magazine covers. i do think this shot was very tastefully done. angie’s breathtaking, as usual.

The picture is beautiful. I feel honored that they would share their lives with us like this. I put my subscription in about 1-1/2 weeks ago, so I sure hope I get this copy. If not I going to head to a book store as soon as I know it is out. Because like People this is going to go fast.

Hmm, to all those who are wondering why they chose to show the public such intimate photos.

Well it’s one thing to choose what people see, what you want them to see. (We do only get a peek into their lives, no matter how many magazines they’re in) and it’s a whole other matter when those moments are taken from them, without their concent. (paparazi pictures. etc.)

they’re gonna be in the public eye no matter what.

I love the photo and I think it is very artistic and tastefully done. It was shot in such a way that you can barely see that Angie is breastfeeding. Photography is one of my hobbies and I love taking pictures in black and white. There is something about the play of light and shadows that I find interesting and compelling. I can not wait to see more of the photos!

You could hardly tell that Angie is breastfeeding in the picture, it was done with taste & Brad’s artistic side put into it.Brad is such a good artist, I’m glad he is beginning to develop it (partly thanks to Angie’s encouragement). I can’t wait to have copies of this magazine. I will try to subscribe but I may not be able to get this copy, because it’s already in the store on October 21. I hope some stores will put them up much earlier so I can get my own copies.God bless.

The photo is very nicely done indeed with little exposure so you can hardly see that she is breastfeeding. I love black and white photos as it seems there is more soul in it.

Ligaya, I agree with you. I feel happy that they are sharing these photos with us. This will also help promote breasfeeding.

I guess 8ters chooses their targets. Remember Pierce Brosnon & Keely on a magazine cover? Keely was breastfeeding! Nobody said anything bad about that. This is a very nicely done photo, and it showed the mother-child connection. God bless the Jolie-Pitts.

Wow, just beautiful. Those tiny little fingers makes this shot so special. And that smile! Yes I indeed feel so privileged that they are sharing such an intimate moment with us, even more so because these were taken by Brad himself. I just can’t get enough of this beautiful family.

Brandie, thanks. Another pic of a famous Mother breastfeeding her child? Vanessa Paradis taken by Johnny Depp! Not a bleep from anyone about it being it inappropriate!

Ligaya, thanks for your post. Especially the one below! I believe that’s exactly what they are trying to do:
“I think Brad and Angelina are balancing privacy and the public’s demands. Look at us, in every thread don’t we say we want to see their photos? he girls, i don’t think that the people who ask about what brad and angie decide to show private pics dislike this idea! well, i mean: i elove this idea, it’s really great and artistic, but i wonder too why they decide to do such pics (especially if there are pics of the kids). you know, a lot of celebrities in europe don’t let people know their private life: sometimes, the fans don’t know if they have kids, if they are married, etc (i don’t say it’s good, personnaly i prefer celebrities who have a relationship of trust with the public (like brad and angie)).

well, i just love this idea but i can understand that it could seem strange for some people. (so i would like that nobody here critics these persons…)

like sherry said in the next post, they’re open people.

naturally, it’s a look in their private life, but it’s make as artistic as possible and it’s really discrete. like irma said: we know that she’s breastfeeding, but it’s not easy to see.

i just like the pics and hope they’ll do more shoots like this in the future (in fact, they already had done that kind of private pics (when mad and Z were younger, when they were in asia
    http://www.people.com/people/gallery/0,,20004178,00.html?cid=hottestphoto-3), when pax arrived,…
the only difference is that brad took the pics!

i prefer this kind of pics they choose, than the unrespectable paparazzi pics!

    etc

What a beautiful photo of a very beautiful woman! I think that this cover photo is very artistic and tastefully done. Breastfeeding is the most natural and beautiful thing in the whole world. Brad truly seems to be proud of the mother of his children. Can´t wait to buy this magazine!

Oh my dear God that is a gorgeous shot. Look at the light shining in her eyes - her smile - the baby fingers peeking up.

I can’t imagine anyone having issues of this shot. I’ve seen more boob on the red carpet from other stars.

Brad’s photography is really quite good.

Showbiz, sports entrepreneurship and now real estate. Shah Rukh Khan is always ahead of the game when it comes to exploring new terrain. In town to launch the Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard, the superstar was at his wittiest as he chit-chatted about issues he has rarely talked about in the past. Mazhar Farooqui gets you the juicy details.

If he were a woman for one day, who would he want to be?

“Angelina Jolie. I find her lips very sensual. Of course, I will never be able to feel them on my face. By turning into Angelina Jolie herself, I would be able to acquire her face and see what it feels to have those luscious lips.”

I have a question for all of you. Since when is breastfeeding NOT tasteful? Not only is it natural and for feeding an infant, but it is beautiful.

If it was a playboy centerfold naked on the cover, nobody would be asking this question.

Stop perpetuating the myth that breastfeeding is distasteful in any environment.

  • rojas

ITA. The black and white and the fact you have to look really closely to even tell she is breast-feeding gives it a tasteful and calm feel, not at all like the tabliods were trying to make out.

I think they are very open people that have nothing to hide. I imagine they would rather have the control of how and when their personal lives are shared than be invaded by papparazzi. They can share their love of their family with their fans the way they want to with this spread photographed by Brad.

  • Andrea_R

I was thinking about this some more - you know, this is a smart move for them. If they put their *own* photos out there, they can not only control the content, they also lessen the demand for pap pics.

I mean, why would someone buy fuzzy shots from paps if there are nice big ones available?

Beautiful, very moving. I think every mother should have such touching pictures that show the maternal bonding that we have but sometimes our kids don’t quite know what we mean. This picture reflects how all mothers feel and what everyone else sees. What you see and feel is the love and respect these two feel for each other. Their children will love and rejoice in them years from now. If their other pictures are as half as good as this one is, then they have surpassed all that came before them. Boy I bet my bottom dollar this is giving someone the BIG-ONE!!! Because it is not lining someones elses pockets. Its a wonderful legacy to leave their kids with, one full of love and respect not only for each other but for them. I love how you can feel his love for her in how he see her as the woman he loves and as the mother of his children. And how she is looking back at him with love and such peace knowing how she is loved by her man, the father of her children’s. Not a photo shoot having to look perfert but instead all done as nature intended. I’m willing to guest that these will be among their most treasured memories to pull out when everyone has grown-up and start making their own memories to share with their parents. Good for you guys, I appreciate their sharing a small peek and seeing the look of their pride and joy through their eyes. Keep up the good work LOL!
