Angelina Will Star in Atlas Shrugged
After much rumor and gossip to the same effect, Variety is reporting that indeed, Angelina Jolie will be starring in the movie adaptation of Ayn Rand’s classic novel, Atlas Shrugged. Interestingly enough, prior to this official announcement, Variety was the source of all of the prior rumors over the summer. But, good for them, it is true. What is not true is that Brad is going to be co-starring, but as no co-star has been announced, maybe we can still hold hope? ;)

AJ will be amazingly statuesque as the character Dagney Taggert - so dramatic and powerful!!!

oops - hit the send button by mistake. When I was reading the book, I could say that in my imagination, Dagney looked like AJ. So this is a perfect fit and a chance for her to shine her amazing radiance in a classic time period piece that she already embodies so well. This will be a winner!

At present I am half-way with this book. I had been checking IMDB. It says before Friday 9/22: Dagny Taggart (A. Jolie-in talks) John Galt (B. Pitt -in talks)Then while I was watching E-News, last week, they announced that AJ committed as Dagny Taggart since she is a fan of A. Rand. So, I checked the web and the word (in talks) was removed from her name but (in talks) was still by Brad’s name. So there is still hope. B might be organizing his schedule since he has a lot lined up in 2008 as a producer and actor. Hope George Clooney gets the role of Hank Rearden and Francisco D’Anconi is a Latin hottie in the book. Any suggestions?

Viva, at this point, most everything I’ve seen AJ act in I’ve been so totally taken by her ability to bring the roles into tangible, alive characters. I have complete confidence in her and as she matures, she’s only going to get better - absolutely yes, bring on the oscars! Additionally she and BP have a wealth of resources at their fingertips…it should be a good decade or two of amazing movies as they hit their stride (individually and together) in biz.

Angie is a great actress. The book is very good a fantastic stroy but a litttle long. I belive she brings the best out of her role as Dagny Taggart.

Wow, I was just thinking after watching the late great and AMAZING Patricia Neal in the movie HUD the other day how I can so see Angelina in ATLAS SHRUGGED. Miss Neal was in THE FOUNTAINHEAD which of course was a Ayn Rand book (and script). Anyway, although Brad is producing (like he is THE MIGHTY HEART) I also at the same time couldn’t picture in the role of John Galt.
I’m not sure if they’ll be onscreen together again anytime soon, but I am very glad to see Jolie-Pitt are carrying on the that other h-wood tradtion of Cassavettes-Rowlands, Newman-Woodward etc where they DO find a way to work together in their chosen field.

although Brad is producing (like he is THE MIGHTY HEART) I ust don’t/can’t picture him in the role of John Galt.
Also, I must agree with Lucy above in that I too like the idea of George Clooney in the role of Hank Rearden.

JPF, as I am reading the book, Brad will be a great John Galt. Ayn even describes John Galt as if she is looking at Brad’s photo. The young engineer, inventor of the motor, destroyer, who has golden/copper-like hair, slender body, a face you can pick out from a crowd, etc., etc. I can picture him and Angie meeting at “Atlantis” for the first time when Dagny’s plane crashed. I could hardly wait for the final casting.

Viva Brangelina,
Dagny Taggart had two boyfriends before John Galt(Brad’s role may be.) Both men truly love her even after she found John Galt. Of course the book describes the love making not in a descriptive way like Danielle Steele but very polished. In the final chapters, John Galt was her true love. One chapter described them making out at a dark tunnel. Whooh, so sexy. If Brad signs up for this part, I wonder how the scenes will be shown.

Sorry Lucy, but we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. I see someone such as Leo DiCaprio in the role and I have a seriously strong feeling he’ll be considered. I’ll be very suprised if Brad is cast but know that my opinion isn’t because I don’t think he’s capable of doing a great job, I simply don’t think he’s going to be John Galt.

JPF,
We will see what happens. Leo is also a great actor and very versatile but I don’t have the vibes for him. He has not been AJ’s partner on screen so this might be the first. I still see Brad’s face in the pages of Ayn’s novel though.

wow, lucy! that’s quite hot. but leo? hmmm…. i still see him as a boy, not a mature man.
what about johnny depp? *lol* he’s the only PEOPLE’s Sexiest man alive that’s never been worked with angie. =P
i never read the book though, so i cannot tell my opinon on it.

FYI. I just checked the list of casting today 10/2/2006 and discovered that Brad’s name is gone from the casting list. Just Angie as Dagny Taggart.
