Angelina’s doctor holds conference

by Sherry on July 2nd, 2008

Angelina Jolie’s doctor held the press conference today in France to let everyone know what is going on right now. He assured the press in both English and French that everything is “normal. She is very well, and she’s okay.”

He went on to explain that she is only in the hospital at this time for observation and that both Brad and Angelina wanted people to know things are continuing to go well.

Angelina’s doctor also mentioned that at this point, she will be remaining in the hospital until she has her babies, and that he will remain there with her.

Of course, he was asked about Angelina’s due date, the day that the media all want inked on their calendars, but he was evasive, saying only that it’s “something you can’t program, you never know for sure.”

I would assume that it will be soon, but we can’t tell. In the meantime, I’m glad the family has been visiting her. I was in the hospital for three days and two nights a couple of weeks before my first baby was born and it is BORING so seeing her kids will help make time pass more quickly for Angelina, and it will make the kids feel better as well.

I have a feeling I’m going to be hitting refresh on all my main news sources every ten minutes for the next little while until those babies are born! Still, as eager as I am, I know the longer those babies stay inside, the better it is for everyone, so I’ll be patient!

What a wonderfully exciting time for everyone…the logistics of organising all the different aspects of this birth must be enormous and stressful..i hope for the whole families sake that the beauty and joy of the occasion aren’t spoilt by the extreme lengths they are having to go to to protect their privacy..they will share their good news when the time is right but they are in all our thoughts and prayers right now and i hope so much that this special time won’t be spoilt for them.

forgot to say that its been great to see that in most reports i’ve read today the media have finally stopped differentiating between adopted and non adopted children, referring to the girls as Brads daughters pure and simple..i love that..about time too. the little girls are so beautiful..Shi’s hair has grown so much and they both look gorgeous…wouldn’t it be the coolest thing if the babies were girl and boy..can’t wait to see them all together.

Sherry is right, the longer it takes for them to be born the stronger they will be. All of us here at Pittwatch want the same thing, healthy babies and a healthy Mom. Good luck Angelina, you are in our prayers. Brad you have the hardest job, keeping the kids from not missing their Mom to much, and trying to explain all of this to them. Maddox is probably the only one who is old enough to kind of understand. So Brad God Bless you also, you are a good person who is enjoying your big family.

Well, Z is pregnant with piggies & Pax with monkeys, so maybe they have a *vague* idea. :-)

    http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/07/02/europe/EU-France-Jolie.php

The International Herald Tribune carried the full AP report. Here are some details other media outlets left out:

Sussmann stressed that Jolie checked into the hospital to be kept under observation, not because of any medical emergency.
“Mrs. Angelina Jolie and her husband, Mr. Brad Pitt, told me to tell you that she is doing absolutely fine,” said the doctor, apparently unaware that the stars are not married.
“Her hospitalization at this stage in her pregnancy is totally normal for a patient who had a cesarean during her first pregnancy,” he said.
French medical secrecy laws are very strict. But Sussmann said that the famous couple had given him the OK to give out a few details about her pregnancy.

*****The doctor denied some media reports that the whole fifth floor of the hospital had been given over to the Jolie-Pitt clan. He said they had reserved just four rooms, for them and their bodyguards. The doctor defended the deployment of bodyguards: “I find it legitimate that she wants to protect her privacy. She is pregnant woman.”*****

British actress Celia Imrie, who was also in Nice on Wednesday, soaking up the surf, told Associated Press Television News that Jolie “has chosen the most beautiful place in the world” to give birth.
“If she and her babies can see this, the first thing they see when they are coming to the world,” Imrie said of the seascape. “She has chosen beautifully.”

I have no experience with twins, so this question is for those of you that do… Is it really normal to need to be in the hospital “weeks” before delivery with a normal pregnancy with twins? This seems like they aren’t concerned at all, but to be away from the other children most of the time and be in the hopsital seems anything but “routine”. But what would I know?

  • Victoria
    Jul 2, 2008 at 2:59 pm

Carrie, I don´t think it is normal, but then again I don´t know about the situation in France. I have a friend who had a first baby by c-section and then was expecting twins. She went in for a scheduled c-section (with the twins) the day before the operation, and that´s it. So the doctor´s sentence that her hospitalization at this stage of her pregnancy is strictly normal for someone who underwent a caesarean in her first pregnancy” is something I don´t understand at all. Shall she just sit out the end of her pregnancy in a hospital room when everything is fine? I´ve never heard of anything like this before. (I myself also had a c-section the first time around, and there was no such word about the last few weeks of my second pregnancy - I wasn´t carrying twins, though, but as I mentioned above with my friend what difference does that make?).

I suspect there might be minor problems, like slightly high blood pressure, or slight pre-term labour - nothing dramatically serious, but what they want to monitor and cannot when she is at her villa which is probably too far away….. I don´t think there is anything seriously wrong, or else the doctor wouldn´t have assured the world that there is not.

Btw, her doctor was quoted on some site as saying (oddly enough, after he was being evasive about her due date first) that she will probably have another 2 or 3 weeks to go. Which sounds totally right, with her stating in Cannes that she still has a few months.

I am also VERY excited about the arrival of Brad’s babies! Shiloh is gorgeous from head to toe; her eyes, hair, skin, little legs and arms, and that face!!! I was thinking how this website evolved from Pitt Watch, when we were only thinking of Brad, to the Angelina and Brad Watch! I was a fan of both Brad and Angie before they were together. I guess I am Just feeling melancholy; so many years have passed and who knew of this future. Love to you all, and especially our Brad.

The JPs are a nomadic family and they are once again “on the move”. I bet right now Brad is more than happy and relieved that Angie is in the very best of care in a hospital under the watchful eyes of her doctors, resting comfortably. The kids must be so excited too, “infanticipating” with the rest of the world. I so appreciate the doctor’s press conference to convey to us that Brad and Angie want to assure us all is well. This seems like such a nice gesture on their part instead of leaving us all wondering what’s going on. The pix of Brad, Z and Shi visiting Angie really warm my heart (there are more pix at JJ). The girls are gorgeous and Shi is looking more and more like her mommy.

  • ligaya
    Jul 2, 2008 at 5:41 pm

Did you notice the tiny pearl necklace Shiloh was wearing? So cute. Someone else pointed it out.

The JPs have rented 4 rooms (not the whole 5th floor as wrongly reported). I imagine one is for Angie; there’s an unconfirmed report that Brad has a bed in Angie’s room. If Brad doesn’t have a bed in Angie’s room, maybe one of the other rooms is for him to rest in - maybe with some things he needs to work on (MIR Project, books & scripts to option, the Dubai project, etc.). When he brings the kids to visit, maybe they’ll nap in one room & have some of their playthings there. The elder Pitts, James Haven (Jon Voight?) & Holly will visit & they might rest in one of the rooms. The bodyguards most likely have 1-2 rooms.

So Angelina isn ‘t going to be isolated, and the JP kids won’t miss their mommy too much. I wonder if Brad’s doing special things with them at home at the chateau? I wonder if their French lessons are going to continue at the hospital?

Here is a good link about why she might be in the hospital. I doubt it is because she “needs a break”. If that were true, I doubt we would have seen Brad Pitt traveling so much lately.

  • happyforthem
    Jul 2, 2008 at 7:44 pm

Did the Dr. really say MRS. Angelina Jolie? That’s sounds funny to me! It was probably Senora and then translated to Mrs. AJ. Needing a rest before twins arrive is VERY wise, especially with 4 kids running around asking for Mommy. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to breastfeed twins? Big task ahead, but I know that she & BP can handle it with lots of family help.

I’m sure Angie’s stay in the hospital ahead of her expected delivery is normal routine in France specially if you are having twins. Brad & the rest of the fans are excited for the twins arrival.
    God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.

  • Debra
    Jul 2, 2008 at 10:16 pm

Hey, I am concerned. This is not normal. I think something is up. I do remember reading that Angie wanted to have a natural birth this time. Shi was in breach so she had to have a c-section. If she wants a natural birth perhaps being in the hospital in a needed. But this does seem kind of funny. She may be having some problems. I’m a little scared for them myself. A few weeks in the hospital with 4 small children without their Mom… MMMMMMM.
I also wonder if Mama and Papa Pitt will come in not early to help with the little ones. This must be really hard on Brad right now. He must be worried sick
    Keep them in our prayers.

  • Carrie
    Jul 2, 2008 at 10:44 pm

I don’t think anywhere, even France, treats multiple births as something requiring weeks in the hospital prior to birth. That doesn’t sound routine. I do think one important factor is that where they live (stay) now is far from the hospital. I could see them admitting her (as a courtesy - say as opposed to making her rent an apartment nearby) to have her within minutes of her doctors. I also think there could be some old-fashioned lying going on. I have never believed they wanted the actual due date out there. He doesn’t sound to cagey, but who knows?

  • ligaya
    Jul 2, 2008 at 10:51 pm

I don’t think Brad or Angelina would lie - it’s not in their nature. They might be vague, but I don’t think they would outright lie. Remember how Angelina’s gotten into trouble for her early interviews where she was totally candid & open? Anyway this is all speculation - it might be a fun game, but we know that the JPs don’t owe us any answers, right?

More nice things about Angie -

Babaii actually used the WildAid Beach Spray to make Angie’s hair look thick and luxurious on last month’s Vanity Fair cover.

It was Angelina who introduced David to the WildAid organization three years ago. “Kate and I would have done the product line together anyway, but it was Angelina who told me about WildAid and their good works.”

“She introduced me to WildAid and talked about the animals she sponsored and her support for them,” Babaii said today. “She’s such a lovely lady and human being. She’s the whole package. I’m so happy for her that the twins will be born soon.” Will he go over to France to see them? “I sure hope so!”

Carrie, it may just be that Angelina was experiencing some signs of labor (increasing contractions and so forth). Those signs are completely normal for many mothers carrying multiple babies and aren’t a cause for concern in themselves. The doctors would prefer that the babies remain inside the mother for as long as possible, though, so it’s sometimes decided that she should spend some time in hospital to stabilize the contractions through medication and try to prevent labor for as long as possible. They have sensitive equipment to monitor her progress and ensure that they have an accurate picture or how the babies are growing as well.

So there’s probably nothing to worry about, I don’t think. It’s probably just easier for the doctors to monitor Angelina and the babies from inside the hospital, rather than making her travel over 60 miles by helicopter every day or two to get a check up. That Brad is bring the children to come and visit their mom is a great sign too because I don’t think he would do that if there was an emergency situation.

Thanks for all the updates Sherry!

well, whether or not they tell us the truth, does it really matter? i mean, they don’t really owe the public any explanation one way or another. it’s just a pregnant woman having twins. let’s just wish angie and her family good health and for the safe delivery of the babies.

also, carrie, the msn link you provided pretty much gives a good explanation for why angie is at the hospital. it’s not rare for a woman pregnant with twins to do something like this.

I don’t know what is going on but i don’t think we need to worry too much. I think Angelina will have her babies soon. Before 2-3 weeks. I just wish her and her children good health at this time. I think everything will be fine! I’m trying to ignore the negative speculation because it will just worry me sick so i’m just waiting anxiously hehe. I’m so excited. Another good thing that Brad did (click on the URL is you’re interested in a short paragraph about how Ed Norton became an environmentalist) -

    http://www.parade.com/celebrity/slideshows/green-is-the-new-green/index.html?index=4

Norton runs the Solar Neighbors Program, an organization that donates a solar system to one of Enterprise Community Partners’ low-income families every time a celebrity purchases one. So far, more than 25 systems have been purchased and donated by celebrities such as Owen Wilson, BRAD PITT, Danny DeVito and Robin Williams, according to looktothestars.org.

Popsugar has a pic of a corner suite (not necessarily Angelina’s) on the hospital’s 5th floor. I have to say, the height & the 2 windows meeting at the corner does give a magnificent view. Some of us here have been there before & seen that sparkling blue of the Mediterranean.

The hospital supposedly released the photo.

Hmmm, i hope everything is ok, but it does seem very suspect. I have a 4 year boy old born via c-section and 18 month old twin girls born via c-section and I was admitted into the hospital (in Canada) the day before my schedule c-section. I think that there must be some concerns or they would let her stay at home…. seems highly unlikely that in France they would admit someone for potentially weeks prior to a birth, France has national healthcare (ok so they’re paying for private rooms but that doesn’t cover healthcare costs) or are they at a private hospital???? Either way, I hope they have a safe delivery and two healthy babies.

Nice view out of the hospital window, which if Angie is there for some time that is nice. Very simple room, but people of course will make something out of the fact that they are renting extra rooms. Also, I am having this vision of when the Jolie-Pitts want to go out on a day trip, the six car seats, six children to be buckled in, oh my goodness I would be exhausted before the trip even started. But then again with the media frenzy I don’t think there will be many day trips. Just talking to hubby about this and how hard it must be with all the cameras, flashbulbs, the shouting that goes on. But he thinks that if he had the money he would be fine, and I said I think he would change his mind once he experience it.

  • ligaya

Other than the view, it’s a pretty regular kind of room, IMO. Unless they put in carpeting, new furniture, drapes, etc., Angelina isn’t being treated specially. I’ve seen pictures of celebrities VIP’ hospital rooms & places they go to to recover from plastic surgery and they are lush & luxe!

  • irma
    Jul 3, 2008 at 1:32 pm

Mary Ann, they are going to be fine, 6 children all in all are a lot to family standard but they have the means & the help they can get, only one problem, they need a bus to haul all these children. I can envision how rowdy the kids will be in a house, Oh my, I don’t think I can handle 6 at one time. I admire how Brad & Angie tackle raising their kids as much as possible without the outside help. I hope, this time, they will let the nannies & Brad parents to help them out.
    God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.

Sometimes I would like to contribute and post an interesting link, like this Parade interview with AJ that no-one seems to know yet, but by the time my comments go through moderation, nobody actually sees them anymore.
