Angie in Iraq

by Sherry on August 28th, 2007

Angelina JolieThe United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has announced that Angelina Jolie has gone to Iraq in relation to the humanitarian crisis there.

According to People:

The actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, 32, flew from New York to Syria on Monday. In Damascus, she visited a UNHCR registration center and spend hours talking to Iraqi refugees in their homes.

Tuesday’s journey took her to Iraq to meet with 1,200 refugees camped out in a makeshift outpost at the border, because they are unable to leave the country. She also witnessed dozens of Iraqis crossing into Syria.

Angelina was quoted as making the following statement:

“I have come to Syria and Iraq to help draw attention to the humanitarian crisis and to urge governments to increase their support for UNHCR and its partners. My sole purpose in both countries is to highlight the plight of those uprooted by the war in Iraq.”

Angie said that as far as the debate over Iraq’s future is concerned, the people living in humanitarian crisis must be taken into consideration.

She also met with some of the troops in the area.

Well, my goodness. I hope she stays safe. To me it’s just proof that Angie does more than just hand over money because it makes her “look good”. You don’t go to a country like IRAQ in this volatile time for a photo op, you do it because you believe in your work.

I hope she gets back soon!

UPDATE: According to OK magazine, Angelina has been accompanied by Mickey Brett, her bodyguard and all around superhero. Thanks for the tip, Andrea!

It is nice she focus on the innocent victims of this unnecessary war. hope the U.N. mission is giving her good protection when on these trips. She has four kids.

OK Magazine has a bit more:

(Aren’t they owned by the same people who own Hello mag, the one where Shiloh’s first baby pics were published?)

I wish I had her courage. And I agree with you gbfan. This war is/was unnecessary. Iraq may have been freed from the tyranny of Saddam, but the people living there are still living/experiencing an abundance of other atrocities and suffering because of the war. It’s hard to imagine how much suffering the people there are experiencing. I’m so thankful for what I have.

Nice pictures. I loved the one that JJ had of Z giggling as he swung her up. It warmed my heart. The twisted of course focused on the parents and made stupid comments and did not enjoy the joy of a child.

I was surprised that Ange is in Iraq, I wished she think twice before going to a dangerous place specially in Iraq. It’s probably a hush hush plan, I hope & pray she comes back safe & sound to her family. When is Brad leaving for Venice? I hope, Ange swing by to Venice after Iraq so they can be together over there, I read that Brad is leaving for Venice on Friday, maybe Ange will be back to NY by the time Brad leaves.

    has anyone seen this video?

Irma, when Angie contacted UNHCR almost 7 years ago, I’m sure she didn’t think twice of looking back, she’s a smart woman and it is a part of her field work, I truly think that she welcomes this kind of thing and probably asks for an assignment to bring some attention to these causes.. you’re right all of them are hush hush, they all know the danger that it involves, also, for this trip to IRAQ it took them about a month to prepare to make sure of her safety…

Neela, Brad is going to attend Venice Film Festival.
Checkers, I’m just worried about Ange’s safety & I’m sure Brad is too. I hope, she is already on her way back home. She needs to take it easy, she is one busy lady. She needs to take care of herself too. God bless them.

I know Irma, I didn’t mean anything bad about my comment… cool!!! I’m sure all of her loved ones feel the same, everyone knows how Angie is and Brad really slows her down, good match.. but I’m sure that she is now a mother of 4 she takes great deal of precaution and as well as doing her research like she always does.

Checkers, thanks for sharing the video, that’s my first time to see it. I’m so happy to see them at night than when they left in the afternoon for the Hamptons. It’s nice to see that Brad helped Ange get off the helicopter & it looks like they were talking to each other, I just wished the paz used a flash bulb to see them better & the Body Guard not blocking the view. I hope to see more of Brangelina’s pictures when Ange arrive from Iraq.

Checkers, they can afford it, why not? Maybe some tabloids have rights on this Hamptons dinner, we don’t see any pictures or video. I keep on watching their video going to the Hamptons dinner. I love after they arrived & Brad extend his hand to help Ange get off the helicopter. Love the Jolie-Pitt’s.

    Andera,
what is your point? As you know Brad and Angie are not the only people who gave out thier kids photos to Mags. Tom cruise, shyrle crow, julia roberts , gwenth patrlow, donald trump and much more celbs give out thier babys photo’s to mags and most of those celbs gave the money to chariy. That means those mags treat these all celbs differntly? Is that is what you mean?

Lola, I believe that Andrea’s point was that since both magazines are owned by the same company, it means that they’re more authentic and believable than the random tabloids are, because they’re a company that Brad and Angelina trust. In other words, we can trust what they say because they’ve faithfully been fair and good to Brad and Angelina.
