Pittwatch.com: Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie Gossip

Be a humanitarian like Angelina Jolie

by Sherry on July 20th, 2007

On this Friday afternoon, I’m going to break from the norm and get a little personal mixed with a bit of activism.

As you all know, I’ve been writing this blog for awhile now. I also write my own personal blog titled Chaos Theory. Over there I write about family life for the most part with a little of this and a little of that thrown in.

If you’ve followed blogs for awhile, you may have heard of The Blogathon. You can find out info at that link, but the short version is, bloggers who are potentially a little crazy sign on to post to their blog every half hour for 24 straight hours for charity. Each blogger chooses a charity that is important to them and attempts to get sponsors.

I am one of the crazy bloggers who has agreed to forego sleep next weekend. On July 28th, at 9 am Eastern Time, I will begin posting on my personal blog. I will continue to do so every 30 minutes until July 29th at 9 am Eastern Time. What does this have to do with you and THIS blog?

Well, I mention it because I am blogging for a charity near and dear to Angelina Jolie’s heart - I am attempting to raise money for the UNHCR, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. I did the blogathon three years ago and I raised over $300 for the UNHCR. It is only because of Angelina Jolie that I was ever even aware of the organization and what refugees go through, especially children.

Right now I have a total of $48 worth of pledges. If you would like to help you should know that:

  • $50 helps register 150 exhausted refugees to assess their needs and trace their families
  • $80 provides tents to shelter a family of five
  • $100 gives a family a survival kit including blankets plus a cooking/heating stove
  • $200 pays for emergency health for a community
  • $500 creates two wells to provide clean water to a community of refugees
  • $1000 gives a feeding kit that will feed 100 children

So of course I’m hoping to raise as much money as possible for this group that Angie has worked with for so many years. I may not be able to travel to war and poverty stricken countries but I can do my best.

I would love it if any of you would be willing to step into the role of humanitarian like Angie and sponsor me. Some important things for you to know about sponsoring me are:

  1. Perhaps most importantly, no money ever goes to me. You do not give me money in the hopes that I will be honest enough to give it to the UNHCR. Rather, I trust your honor by blogging for 24 hours while hoping that when you will indeed make your donation when it’s over.
  2. To sponsor me, you must go to this page where you will be asked to create an account.
  3. Once you’ve created your account you can go straight in and make your pledge which can either be a lump sum or a certain amount per hour that I complete.
  4. After that, you do nothing until the blogathon is over. At that time, you’ll receive an email with instructions that will include the amount you pledged to donate to the UNHCR, and a direct link to the UNHCR’s online donation page.
  5. That’s it!

I don’t normally cross-post between my various blogs, as they are all very separate entities. However, because we talk so often about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and all the charity work they do and because so many of you say you admire Angie for all her humanitarian efforts, I thought it was worth mentioning.

Please feel free to ask me any questions that you might still have about the process. In the meantime, I hope you’ll donate to a worthy cause that Angelina herself endorses. And please remember that not even one penny comes to me, this is not about me making money for myself, this is about me being crazy enough to blog for 24 straight hours with two children under the age of five. (This is going to take a lot of coffee and chocolate, I’d better stock up now.)

Thanks!

For making it through all this, here’s a present:

Oldies but goodies since they’re away on vacation:

I’m offline for most of the weekend so here’s a great video too:

Enjoy!

    Sherry,
I have been a fan of pittwatch for a long time but have never posted any comments until this moment. I have it fed to my homepage so I view your posts daily. I respect and admire your dedication to your family, career, and to all of us Brad & Angelina fans that need our daily fix. I have just pledged $50 towards your efforts. I’m recently unemployed due to health reasons otherwise I would of loved to pledged more. I’m a sucker for a good cause and volunteer my time and money to various charities…just one of the many reasons I’m proud to be an Brangelina fan. Good Luck with your Blogathon…I have no doubt you will do great….

hi sherry, i wish so badly i could pledge something, but for now, it’s going to be impossible. one of these days, when things are a bit easier on the pocket, i will follow your example. anyway, i commend you for what you’re doing. you go, girl. thank you also for putting up that link to your other blog. i’m a single mom to a very active 5-year old boy, so it’s nice to read about how a mom with two young daughters goes about her life. :)

Ah, well, I just made a couple donations on Angie’s birthday last month for UNHCR, UNICEF, and WFP, and this month for NineMillion.org and a few others, so I am a little short on cash to make another contribution, but I hope you do well and congrats on doing this! Good luck!

Hey guys…I know i should leave a comment about UNHCR…but i have a new news about Brangelina!

Few days ago they were at french adventure park with mad,pax and z:

“We’re a small little town, we’re not used to having celebrities,” said one park employee. “We don’t get French celebrities, so it’s completely crazy to find yourself standing with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, the most chased-after couple in the world in front of you. Completely crazy.”

“I asked myself, ‘Who is this man with a ball cap and this woman with black sunglasses?’ ” another staffer told People. “We were all extremely shocked.”
“To see Brad Pitt knocking around in a bouncy castle with his children [and] screaming like wild animals was like a hallucination,” said park operator Benjamin Gautier.

It’s really nice to see them acting like regular people.I just wanted to update you guys…bcuz Sherry is not available now!And you can see the pix here:

Hi Sherry, you’re wonderful as a person. It’s impossible for me to blog 24 hours, I’m a bad blogger and don’t know how to use it. I would prefer to transfer 100 $ than to do blogging. Please, don’t take it personally. I really appreciate your work. I think I will be a regular donator for Jolie’s charity. I admire her work very much and am glad that there are so many fans of her doing the same.

Wish you all the good blessings.

Beauty lives not only in Nature but in one’s own Heart. (Walker Edwards)

What a great gift you’re making, Sherry. A marathon is a fun way to be involved in raising much needed funds for great causes. And it just makes us FEEL GOOD to help. I’ve done the AIDS Walk and a breast cancer walk. Don’t be shy about getting less than $50 or more than $1000. :-)

Money’s tight and we might not have it right now, but we can donate our time. If we don’t have money ourselves right now, maybe we can pass on Sherry’s words to family, friends, co-workers, neighbors & classmates and ask them to donate, as well as pass the word to others.

It’s a geat opportunity to talk with our kids about the value of giving and helping others, and how we might need help someday. Maybe they’ll give you their piggy bank or babysitter money, or set up a lemonade & cookies/cupcakes stand. Nothing’s too small. :-)

Hubby asked how much we should contribute. Just to give his heart a little excitement, I said $1850 - the total of what everything adds up to. We decided on the $200 level for emergency health for a community. Do the total pledges now top what you raised last time? :-)

The paparazzi found out where they are right now & they started stalking them again, I think they will only be there in the Castle of Marthon for 2 weeks so they are probably be back to the States soon, Brad is filming next month while Ange will stay with the kids then her turn in October. What a nice thing to do with their children, take s turn working so that one parent is present while the other one works. What a lovely couple.
