Beowulf gearing up

First of all, can I express how excited, how ridiculously excited I am about Beowulf? I read it years ago in college (wow, that makes me feel old) and loved it and I can’t wait to see it on the big screen. The only thing I was more excited about was Harry Potter last weekend but since I’m all done reading that I am now ready to focus my excitement on the upcoming release of Angelina Jolie’s movie, Beowulf.
The LA Times has an article about the movie and if this doesn’t make you want to know more, I don’t know what will:
Angelina Jolie’s lips look even fuller than usual. She’s emerging naked from a pool of dank cave water, rivulets of gold streaming gently down her body.
“Giiiif meee sonnnn,” she coos, in an Old English accent.
Her flaxen hair is braided down her back in a long tail that slowly undulates and slaps the dark pool around her. She continues to purr enticements about making babies as a virtual camera circles 360 degrees panning around her long limbs and waist. Gold dribbles down her inner thighs past her feet, revealing sharp stilettos merged with bestial hooves.

Lucky folks at Comic Con in San Diego will get to see a special first viewing in 3-D format of Beowulf TONIGHT. Then it will be screened once again in regular movie screen format on Thursday. I wish I could see the second one (3-D kind of makes me nauseous).
I loved this blurb about the movie as well:
Glover was pulled into “Beowulf’s” motion-capture fold, along with the film’s royal family — Anthony Hopkins (King Hrothgar) and Robin Wright Penn (Queen Wealhtheow), and John Malkovich (Unferth) — who performed 30 days of “principal mocapography” at Culver Studios on a 30-by-30-foot stage wearing standard-issue bodysuits covered head-to-toe in tiny sensors recorded by dozens of digital cameras back in December 2005.
“It was like watching the cast of ‘Tron’ performing bad Shakespeare in the round,” Gaiman said.
But that’s just my inner nerd (and further dating myself here) because of the Tron connection.
Read the whole entry here (you’ll need to register).
I can’t WAIT to see this movie. I don’t go to the theater very often because of the cost and the babysitting arrangements, but I think I’ll mark this one down for a date night!

I can’t wait to see it too! I had not heard about this before today. There could not have been any other choice for Grendel’s mother.

I was so excited to see the pre-screening of Beowulf here in San Diego at Comic-con convention but I was out of luck when I realized that I have to pick up my grandson from school and then babysit him. I can’t wait to see the 3-D screening at IMAX come Nov.

Even though this is partly animated, you can still see the expression on Angie’s eyes. So scary sometimes. I can’t remember the story of Beowulf. I know it is a poem that I read in High School. I went to a small Catholic HS in Laguna, a small province in the Philippines. Our English teacher read this poem to us with dramatic expression. No idea what the story is about. Too long ago. But I am so looking forward to see it.

This looks amazing. I remember seeing pics of Angie in a net with some of those tiny pinball things on her face. It’s amazing what technology can do these days.
