Brad and Angelina’s babies OFFICIAL!
July 13, 2008 by Sherry
According to one of the few sources that I count on to be honest and sincere, People, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie did indeed welcome their new twin babies this weekend!

It happened on Saturday in the Lenval hospital, and they were indeed one boy and one girl!
“The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly,” Dr. Michael Sussmann told PEOPLE Sunday. “Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well.”
The names were also accurate as well - the boy was named Knox Leon and the girl was named Vivienne Marcheline, an obvious nod to Angie’s late mother. They were both born by c-section and weighed in just around the five pound mark, which is great for multiples. They were born early because the doctors wanted the babies to be born in the best conditions, which may have meant they were concerned about their size.
So exciting!! Welcome to the world, Knox and Vivienne!

I’m so happy for the Jolie-Pitt’s. Finally, the twins are here.I really like their names & wow a boy & a girl, Brad must be feeling he is in cloud nine. I can’t wait for him to call for a conference & see how his face lights up with excitement & happiness. Angie can’t make it more perfect to give Brad another boy & a girl. Now, I can’t wait to see their pictures.
Gena, I will make a donation to Angie & Brad’s charity not a dollar but I will make it $10.00 instead.
Let’s celebrate. God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.
I’m glad all the fans are here & celebrating the birth of the twins with us. I’m so happy.
OMG, my husband just called me since I haven’t had time on the computer this weekend. Thank you, thank you Sherry. I was praying for a boy and a girl. Now they are really 3 boys, 3 girls, the Jolie-Pitt bunch. I love their names. One funny thing though, my belly pig’s name when I was in the Philippines was Vivian not Vivienne. Now I could hardly wait to see the twins on the cover of People. JOy!Joy!Joy!
Mary Ann belated happy birthday. The twins are born a day before my youngest g-son’s birthday. That will make me remember the twins birthday much easier. I really love their names. God bless
i’m so glad for the family, brad and angie and the chilfren, they all are so cute and I wish them all the fortune and happiness in their lives
Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline welcome to the world and conratulations to brad and angie for having a healthy twin. Thanks sherry for all the information. i owe a lot u here.I just feel connected to the JP’s because of you.My day is not complete w/o reading your blog.
God Bless to Jolie-Pitt’s family. I’m really happy for them.
The world is going crazy for the Jolie-Pitt twins. And so they should!! Hehe so happy it’s a boy and a girl! Can’t wait to see the pics! Thank you Brad and Ange for making me so happy! We love you guys!
Neela, it is great that you share Shiloh’s birthday. This has been a week of new babies. Two were born on Sherry’s birthday on the 7th, Sunday Rose and Levi. You know they always say things happen in three’s and I was thinking that maybe Gwen would have her baby, but it was our Angie. God Bless the Jolie-Pitts and all of the fans through out the world. This is a great place to visit each day.
Sooooo happy for the parents..happiness for all, they deserve it!
Adding…..can you imagine what they are going to look like; there is some prize genetics there!
Congratulations to the Joile-Pitts and God bless them all.
Thanks Sherry for the great news!
i”m just happy that the twins are here and safe congrats brad and angie
so happy for them
love the names classic old school names very cool. Can’t wait to see the pictures, I would guess what a couple of weeks to a month. Does any one know how old Shi was in the people pics? I wonder if they have AJ eyes or Brad’s. I would assume they are blond but you never know. If they are only 5 pounds they may wait a month to do some official pics. I would guess they will take the helicopter home. The City of Nice (the mayor) is really milking this for all its worth, and I don’t really understand why.
SO HAPPY, SO excited for the Jolie-Pitt family, congratulations and God bless them all!!!!!
Vivienne would be pronounced “Vi-vee-ENe” in French.
Marcheline would be “Ma(r)-sheuh-LEEN” (that’s the best way I know to spell it out!).
Leon = “LEE-oh(n)”
Knox = “Nox”
I’m so happy they have a boy and a girl. Three boys, three girls. A beautiful family. And the stories about Brad being emotional in the hospital make me want to cry! Hooray for the family.
still dancing with happiness.
i am so so so happy that the babies came to this world so safely and on my BIRTHDAY…this was the greatest birthday presnt ever i recieved this year !!! i am so happy for Angelina and Brad !!
the jolie-pitts are blessed because they are such kind people. i love them. i’m a proud supporter.
i’m inspired by them. <3
yep, also still over the moon about the twins. and for brad to have the honor of cutting the umbilical cords. how exciting. hope they’ll have a nice and happy private celebration.
Interestingly, CNN has a quote from Dr. Sussman, who delivered the twins, calling Brad Pitt Angelina’s husband. I have to wonder if they may be married. I don’t think an obstetrician of this caliber with such a high-profile couple would make a slip like this. What I mean is this is such an important detail (and a speech that would be quoted and read by millions of folks) that I cannot imagine he didn’t think about what he was saying. Perhaps they are now married after all…
allaboutme- I volunteer at the OB ward in a hospital and it’s a very common mistake. These docs deliver so many babies that the word husband is like the word the to us. It’s used frequently. I guarantee you this Doctor has probably never had to endure a high profile press conference such as this one. I truly believe it’s an honest mistake. If it wasn’t, wouldn’t there be 100 websites speculating about the wedding of the century?
our prayers had been answered! a safe and easy delivery for our couple! i cried this morning when i 1st heard the news at cnn and today. i’m very very happy. our couple is really blessed. God loves them dearly. a boy and a girl! WOW! THANK YOU GOD FOR BLESSING THIS COUPLE!
Congrats to the whole Pitt-Jolie family on the birth of the twins .I hope they can get break from the paparazzi so they can enjoy being parents again .Welcome to the world Knox and Vivienne !
wow i’m really happy that brad and angelina had their twins and was really surprised to find out that one was a boy and one was a girl. i love the name vivienne. it’s a name that’s not heard of too much anymore and it’s quite refreshing. knox is interesting…maybe something that’s going to have to grow on me but i’m sure they’re beautiful babies. i was so excited to read the bulletin on the E channel this morning. i can’t wait to see the pictures and it’s going to be interesting to see what a brangelina boy turns out to look like and i wonder if vivienne is going to look like shiloh. shiloh looks more like brad though so it would be nice if viv would look more like angelina. marcheline would also have been a nice first name. best of luck to the parents of the new twins
I AM SO THRILLED!!! I have been glued to your site, watching daily! How wonderful for Brad and Angelina!
Knox? Not a common name, but cool. I like it.
Mary Ann, the grandfather with the middle name Knox passed away in 1976 already. He was his maternal grandfather. The one mentioned in the interview was his father´s Dad - so, no, it´s not the same “Knox”.
Sherry, please take this comment out of moderation (where I know it will land) ASAP, please, because I´d like to have Mary Ann get the answer to her question. If it only comes out of moderation tomorrow, she will most likely never see it. Thanks!
More details from the doctor:
Dr. Michel Sussman has shared more details of the birth of Angelina and Brad’s twins.
During the labor and delivery, the couple “were talking, they were together,” Dr. Michel Sussmann told reporters outside Fondation Lenval Hospital in Nice, France, where twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon were born on Saturday. “It was an epidural, so [Angelina] was awake and speaking and laughing. They were happy.”
Brad never left Angelina’s side – “he was my assistant!” Dr. Michel Sussmann said jokingly – and even cut the babies’ umbilical cords.
“He was … perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved and very emotional,” said Dr. Michel Sussmann.
Asked whether the birth had been a textbook delivery, Dr. Michel Sussmann replied, “absolutely no problems.”
Asked when Angelina and the babies leave the hospital? “I don’t know,” he said. “She will stay for a few days. You know, in Europe it isn’t like in the United States, where the patients go home after three days. They will stay a bit longer until everything is okay.”
He added: “The babies are fine. The babies are with the mother and father and they are fine.”
Knox Surname Origin
(Locality). Gaelic, Cnoc, a little hill; figuratively, a stout man.
*****************
Knox Name Meaning and History
Scottish, northern English, and northern Irish: from a genitive or plural form of Old English cnocc ‘round-topped hill’, hence a topographic name for someone who lived on a hilltop, or a habitational name from one of the places in Scotland and northern England named with this element, now spelled Knock, in particular one in Renfrewshire.
The surname is also borne by eastern Ashkenazic Jews as an Americanized form of one or more like-sounding Jewish surnames.
**************************
Vivian Name Meaning and History
English and French: from the personal name (Latin Vivianus, a derivative of vivus ‘living’, ‘alive’). The name was borne by a 5th-century bishop of Saintes, France, and was popular among the Normans, by whom it was introduced to England.
wow! how exciting!! one boy and one girl is exactly what i was hoping for! cant believe it is true!
my guess is daddy named the gal and mummy named the boy
Nikki, after you posted I searched for the certificate and had a look at it.
It just says “Angelina Jolie, née à Los Angeles - Californie - le 4 juin 1975″. As far as I know that just means ‘born in L.A. on the…’ So I guess we’ll still have to wait little longer for the “I do”s.
Congratulations!!! a boy and a girl…they´re so lucky.
SOOOO happy for all of them! The paper this morning said as of yet, the rest of the brood hasn’t met their brother and sister. I hope that was incorrect! By now, they should’ve been allowed into the nursery to see them. Glad she had the babies abroad… they have better health care over there and won’t just send her home packin’ with healing to do and two babies to care for. My sister lives in Europe; had a C-section and stayed in the hospital for 5 days. They’re saying AJ will stay for at least another 3. They’re so blessed that the babies are healthy and Mom is doing fine. Congrats to the whole family!
congratulations brad and angie. i’m very hppy that everybody is doing well! i can’t wait to see their faces!!!! beautiful nmes, good choice!!!! i’m so happy that they are boy and girl! it’s so perfect.
i wish all the best to this beautiful family!
I’m so happy for them. Although we really should keep them in our prayers. Recovering from a C-Section AND caring for newborn twins is no picnic. I just got finished recovering from my third C-Section and it was a rough first couple of weeks. I had lots of help and I’m sure she’ll have lots of help as well, but still…
Does anyone know if she nursed Shiloh? I wonder if she’ll nurse the twins for any length of time. I can’t wait to see the pictures.
Thanks, Sherry, for getting me out of moderation hell so quickly!
I really can’t wait to see the pics and see these two beautiful twins blossom! It’s really something to look forward to..may Angelina and Brad and their children be blessed and have a life full of happiness, prosperity, peace and love! I bet Brad and Ange are having so much fun and happiness with Knox and Vivienne! Hehe..there’s always more to look forward to with this family! So admirable..
Victoria, thanks so much for the explanation on which grandfather it was. Victoria, I know it is a pain when our remarks go into moderation, I believe if we were having a contest, Ligaya would probably win. Please keep on posting here at Pittwatch. Sherry does a great job and she gets to them as quick as possible. Like hearing from you so please hang in there.
CONGRATULATIONS!! I’M SO HAPPY FOR THE NEW ADDITION IN THE FAMILY..GODSPEED!!
Ayla, belated Happy Birthday, that is mine also. I also wanted to tell you that I love your name. I have The Clan of the Cave Bear series, and I believe it my memory serves me correctly Ayla is the main character. In fact it has been about 5+ years since the author has put out a current book. Anyway, love your name. Hope all is well with the Jolie-Pitts today. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Madd, Pax, Zee and Shiloh met their new brother and sister.
The children probably are anxious to see their new brother & sister. I wonder if Brad’s parents are already in France?
Belated Happy Birthday Ayla. I agree with Mary Ann, your name is beautiful.
God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.
Thank you Mary Ann for your nice comment!! Even though we don´t really know each other at all in the real world, it is funny how we are old acquaintances here in this blog! Sometimes I wonder what we all look like. I think one has a certain image of the other person in one´s head, and most of the time one would be totally wrong, I suppose!!
I will definitely keep posting, but I think I am winning the contest! I AM Queen of Moderation, because 100 % of my comments go into moderation. I don´t think I had one comment in the past few weeks that didn´t go into moderation. I could probably post an empty comment, and it would still land there!! Moderation does not like me!!
CONGRATULATION, BRAD AND ANGIE. MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND ALL OF YOUR CHILDREN.
CONGRATULATION BRAD AND ANGIE. GOD BLESS ALLOF YOU
congratulations!! GOD BLESS THE JOLIE-PITTS
