Brad and Angelina’s new home

by Christina on March 24th, 2006

Thanks to JLS, one of our fabulous members, I have a good bit more info on the home (if you can call it that!) in France that Brad and Angelina have purchased. How beautiful is this??:

0005@.jpg

I am a little conflicted with some of these pictures (I think I saw both of these houses for sale on the realty website??), and the real estate site is down at the moment, so I can’t figure it out - but here are some more pictures (thanks again JLS!!), and we will work it out soon enough:

I guess Brad and Angelina could raise a whole team of children in this monster home!?

0045@.jpg

0048@.jpg0027@.jpg

And here is listed maybe a much older view of the house? - I think. Boy am I getting more confused by the minute.

I was also sent a description of the home from the sales materials which you can see after the jump!

Chateau Gabriel is Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé’s hideaway in Normandy, just 45 minutes from Paris by helicopter.

The property is situated in Benerville and comprises a Napoleon III style Anglo-Norman manor house set in grounds overlooking Deauville.

The manor house was built around 1874 for a wealthy American by a French architect. It changed hands in the 1980’s when Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Bergé and interior decorator Jacques Grange spent over three years restoring the property.

This spacious residence exuding luxury and particular refinement, could be the scene of a Visconti film; sofas and pouffes in bronze velvet, copper and mahogany striped heavy drapes, Persian rugs, Art Nouveau lamps and vases, pre-Raphaelite and orientalist paintings, flowers everywhere….this property reflects Yves Saint Laurent’s passions: Proust, Monet and the 19th century in general. The nine bedrooms with huge bathrooms each have their own personal style and are named after characters from “Remembrance of Things Past”. The artist, Claude Monet, a contemporary of Proust, is also featured. Since his ‘Nymphéas’ were not for sale, the walls in several of the ground floor reception rooms were covered with white water lily murals resembling his famous paintings.

The conservatory and its wide terrace look out over the grounds towards breathtaking views of the sea and Seine estuary. Besides the billiard room and study, the basement boasts kitchens worthy of a large hotel.

The 74 acre (30 hectares) sloping park consists of several different levels crossed by spring streams, in which themed gardens have been created including a Japanese garden with a small brook; a walled garden made of brick and pierre de bourgogne; and a pond with floating water lilies surrounded by exotic plants which spend the winter in greenhouses.

On the outskirts of the park a Russian dacha, built entirely from birch wood, has been created as a self-contained residence with the atmosphere of a hunting lodge.

The outbuildings include stables fully equipped for the joys of horse riding and farm buildings with a vegetable garden and heated glasshouses.

At the end of one’s stay, one returns to the heliport to take one’s leave of this marvellous place that is known as “the castle of time regained”.

And this is from the features sheet:

Great pictures there too - thanks for the link, Diana. Do you get tired of hearing me say that? LOL Is that not the most gorgeous view???

    Christina, et al,
The first picture is of the “Lodge” on the property—one of many outbuildings. There is also a Dacha–a darling little structure where
Yves St. Laurent painted and also did some of his designs.
Christina, you probably know this but the large picture of what I think resembles a HUGE “gingerbread-style” mansion is the main house. Are you going to send that picture or did you already post it and I haven’t found it yet?
These are fun to see, aren’t they?

This is not the main house?? This is actually the only picture that came through JLS, I got this picture and the descriptions. All of the rest of the pictures are available at the link Diana gave though…

Great, but on the website it does not say “VENDU”
    which means “sold” in French?

Love this estate. I’m very familiar with it’s history and would love it if Brad & Angelina actually did purchase it. They should cange the name from Chateau Gabriel to Chateau Jolie or Chateau Jolie-Pitt. Wow that sounds like some kind of wine. LOL!!!

Good point, Sandra! Keep your eye on the site, maybe it will show that it is off the market soon. Let us know if you notice the sold sign up. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment, Sandra!

Ok, I have all of the pictures up here now that I have - but we may have to work out some of the details. See what you gals think…

Sandra - you are right. There are some estates with the venue label which means they are sold but not chateau Gabriel. Actually I was under the impression after reading some articles flowing through the net that “Pitt and Jolie are among some potencial buyers.”… I´m confused, I though it was confirmed they had bought it.

The report is that it is in escrow, which is a promise to buy, with a very small “faith” downpayment. A realtor would not take it off the market until a contract is officially signed probably.

Course that could all be baloney anyway. Ha ha. :)

Hmmm… I guess we´ll have to keep a close look on that site! ;)

Clearing things up - I am confused as all get out myself. But I guess I am a good illusionist! Ha ha :)

Christina, the first house(picture) was sent to me by Bruno Taxy, the realtor for Emile Garcin. He indicated it is one of the buildings on the immense property—a guest house called “The Lodge” which you can read about in the descriptions of various parts of the property (on this website of course). The second picture you displayed is the “Main House” also in the written descriptions. I am going to follow up with “Bruno” (with whom I am still in contact)and try to ferret out the truth about whether the house is actually sold. If I find out anything, I’ll let you know.
    Signed,

I forgot to mention that the second picture of the main house you showed is not so much older as just not as good a picture and taken from a different vantage point. It’s the same house. I’m pretty sure I’m right about the last two entries, you guys and if not, I will make my mea culpas later.

Hey, I’m just thrilled they’re getting a home where it looks like they’ll have some breathing room! “Gimmie land lots of land, don’t fence me in!”

Wonder how far they are from Johnny Depp? Is this the region area he’s in also?.

Speaking of real estate, I heard a blurb that Brad’s Los Feliz estate in LA was getting some major work done, but didn’t say if it’s getting ready to be on the market, or if it’s due to the Jolie-Pitts moving in. I use to have pictures, but I don’t know where they are, but very nice grounds, very nice.

    Thanks Christina & JLS

Wow that place needs TONS of renovations. The insides look a little creepy.

Bamz9LOVE, this estate is in Normandy not too far from Paris. Johnny Depp’s place is in the South of France which is at least 10 hours from there. For these guys, of course, distance is nothing. Are they friends do you know?

  • bamz9LOVE
    Mar 25, 2006 at 2:28 pm

JLS, I’ve never heard of them being friends, but Brad’s Planet B did produce Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and they may have become so then.

I couldn’t much imagine them so when Brad was “Brad”, but now his life is lived a quite bit different than before, and now they have a few things in common like Brad’s a family man now, and JD definitly is. They both seem similar in that family appears to take top spot.

Also, Brad’s always had a penchant for those little off the hollywood grid roles, and talks (if TC can be believed) of wanting to go more in that direction with his acting and since we know JD lives for them, there’s another place a real friendship could spring from.

Oh, and they’re both in france. lol

I love Johnny Depp - he just gets cooler and cooler the older he gets too. I bet they would make great friends.

Me too. You know something Christina, I always assumed because of the life he lived with JA, they shared tons of friends, and with the split, the friends got split too. Well after checking out things, that wasn’t so.

She has tons of girlfriends, and when it was time for the couple to socialize, basically it came down to either showbiz folk, or her friends and their significant others.

On his own, Brad really has a lot of aquantances as opposed to this best friend, that best friend. He’s good buds with Edward Norton, and Guy Ritchie, but apart from that, he’s not the hang out with the boys kinda guy and never really was, but when he does/did, he’s at ease with it. His “guy” hobbies are really solitary ones, like motorcycles, airplanes(now).

What I also get is how he and Angelina are very similar in this respect, and one more thing they share. She has many aquantences, and one or two she’s closer with. Both are very independent, but seem very comfortable as a team, and I just don’t think either shared that with anyone else. IMO, they’re best friends.

The reason I bring this all up is because another board (FF) has a thread that accuses Angelina of keeping him from his friends and family silliness, and plus it’s been on my mind how in hindsight, you never heard about him doing much apart from being married to JA, going to hollywood functions, and making movies.

Bamz9Love, I think your assessment seems true. From following Brad’s career and the articles written about him, he seems to be just the sort of person you describe. He has a few close friends, makes acquaintances easily on a little more superficial/fun basis but is more of a solitary person. When you say you think A & B are “best friends” I think you just might be right. They have so many things in common as opposed to say. . .the other women he’s been close to. . .and he may have finally found a soul-mate. (Hate that word but it fits in this situation). I have also read comments about his choosing out-of-the-mainstream movie roles as well as girlfriends (Kalifornia, 12 Monkeys, Juliette Lewis e.g.). With Angie, he can be more himself, live more of the out-of-the-mainstream lifestyle—-dress the way he wants, devote time and energy to the things he cares about and not have to “play the game” like he has had to do in the past.

Following your insights on the matter, I think that´s another reason why so many people was admired when Clooney came forth and said they were not close friends. It was this common idea they were best friends and it happens to be false according to Clooney´s statements. Brad strikes me as the family man, the one who kept his childhood friendships and must only have 2 or 3 people in the buiseness he might consider “friends”. I also thinks he values very much his friendships.

I bet you all are exactly right. It must be difficult for people to make friends in the circles that they run/live in. I think B & A do seem to be soulmates. Thats not such a horrible word - just horribly overused. :)

JLS, I think it’s been a shock to the system for so many who loved the image first cultivated with Gwyneth Paltrow, and then topped off with the “outwardly” perfect marriage with Jennifer Aniston.

The PDA’s, the public verbal expressions of love, the hair, the teeth! He punched those who loved “that Brad” in the gut, then kicked them below the belt when he left all that behind and he preceded to add insult to injury by falling hard for the “anti-Gwynnie/Jen!”

They can forgive him for a lot of things, but not that. They can’t get past “the past”. They can’t accept his reality now; the one he’s chosen, and the one he probably always wanted but for whatever reason couldn’t pursue before.

He seems free, released, and I feel strongly that it has everything to do with what he’s found with AJ. I truly believe they connect in a way neither have with anyone else. On her side, I believe she’s got a man who IS a man she can depend on, and one that finally lets her exhale lol!
