Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are powerful to Forbes
June 12, 2008 by Sherry

Every year Forbes puts out their Forbes‘ annual Power List, where they rank celebrity power based on a combination of money and fame.
While Oprah Winfrey was the top name for the second year in a row after it was revealed that she rakes in a whopping $275 million between her show, magazine, and other projects within her massive empire. She was followed by Tiger Woods in second place with $115 million in earnings.
However, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie aren’t too shabby. Coming in at third place, Angelina Jolie accounted for $14 million, while Brad Pitt took tenth place with $20 million.
I wish it was explained a bit more about the fame side so we could understand what made Angelina rank higher with less earnings. I also would have expected Brad to rank higher since he also does so much producing, but unfortunately I don’t know exactly how it works.
The full top ten were:
1 Oprah Winfrey, $275 million
2 Tiger Woods, $115 million
3 Angelina Jolie, $14 million
4 Beyoncé Knowles, $80 million
5 David Beckham, $50 million
6 Johnny Depp, $72 million
7 Jay-Z, $82 million
8 The Police, $115 million
9 J.K. Rowling, $300 million
10 Brad Pitt, $20 million
The issue comes out on Friday, so you can pick it up if you’d like to see the full listing of the top 100 power celebrities.

luv the fact that they are not’up there’ becoz they are rich! in fact comparing to a lot of celebraties they are on the ‘poor’ side! still they give out so much more than richer celebraties.
this list reminds me about the Time 100 most influential people list. pitt & jolie were ranked something like 21(?cant remember the exact number), one place higher than Oprah.
2006 – Brad #20 and Angelina #35

Methodology
The Celebrity 100 measures power, which boils down to two components: money and fame. Earnings estimates are for June 2007 to June 2008. We included income from endorsements, movies or other ventures only if the celebrity has been paid, applying the same rules to entertainment-related ventures. Management, agent and attorney’s fees have not been deducted. Figures were rounded off where appropriate. Sources include Billboard, Pollstar, Adams Media Research, Nielsen SoundScan, Nielsen BookScan and SNL Kagan. How do we “calculate” fame? From Web hits on Google Blog Search, TV/radio mentions on LexisNexis, overall press mentions on Factiva and the number of times a celebrity’s image appeared on the cover of 55 consumer magazines.

okay in other words if we count fame on its own AJ is on the top of the list.

“Had (Jolie) made a couple of millions dollars more she probably would have been close to topping the list because the number of magazine covers that she was on, the number of stories she was mentioned in, far surpassed anyone else on the list,” Miller [Forbes] said.
OK. all Angelina/Brad fans have to see their movies lots of times - maybe they’ll be #1 in 2009!
Which one is riding the others coattail?
the problem with fame is that its hard to say wether its because of their private life spread all over the press or because of the good things they do IMO. i think its sad that Angie has done alot of good deeds in the past, but the press only focused on her after she met Pitt.
but anyway, she gets credit for her actions now, thats important. its great that its not only a “rich” people list.
AJ has always been famous but I don’t believe the pap’s followed her around as much until her and Brad hocked up. I am thinking about when she lived in England and went to the local pub, and you never saw any pics of that. Brad on the other hand was followed a lot more and his personal life was in the news more. I believe it is not just one or the other but the fact they are together that makes it that much more.
No coattails needed - each is a force unto her/himself. And together, they’re spectacular - it’s called synergy.
This is off subject but I have to ask, did you guys see angelina dad with james haven at the lakers games the other day. the look so good, just like when he was a young boy growing up like father and son. they look happy together.
chevjuls: yes I’ve seen the pictures, that’s really good that they are talking again, just like Angie said, she starts talking to her dad again too & they do it in a quiet way.
For the most powerful couple Brad & Angie will always be # 1.God bless them.
thought I would post this

When the fame part is explained I understand how Angelina could be slightly higher on the list than Brad, although they’re definitely greater than the sum of their parts. It’s the couple status that makes them so powerful individually, which is quite a nice metaphor in itself.
I’m surprised to see Tiger Woods up there in second position, though. He’s certainly got a lot of dosh but is he famous or influential? I would have thought someone like JK Rowling would be moreso than him. It probably depends on what way the celebrity is famous, because someone like Rowling is enormously famous in terms of her creation (probably moreso than anyone in the world) but isn’t personally very well known, so her face would rarely appear on a magazine cover. I don’t envy the task of those who had to put this list together, it would have been a tough task.
They form alovely couple . I love both of them.
Is anyone taking this list seriously. The people mentioned on the list are probably not. Everyone has a list and a different measure of how someone gets on the list. If there are 20 lists for the same thing, there would be 20 different configurations. Fame is debatable, money is not. So there can be no ONE true answer.
