Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie movie updates

November 3, 2008 by Sherry

With so much going on in the movie world for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, I wanted to compile a quick list of updates for anyone trying to keep track.

First off, Changeling did really well at the box office considering its competition. It was up against movies that had huge demographics – High School Musical 3 took top spot for the second week in a row, pulling in a good portion of the teens, tweens, kids, and their parents. Zack and Miri Make a Porno came in second place, drawing in comedy fans and people looking for something light and fluffy to watch amid the very real tough economic times and election tensions. Saw V, in its second week of showing, got third place at the box office, getting the older teenagers and the adults who love action, horror, and gore. Meanwhile, in its first real (non-preview) week, Changeling made fourth place in box office results, grossing almost $9.5 million.

I think that they’re probably very happy with those results. In addition to last week’s select openings, Changeling has now grossed a grand total of just over ten million dollars. I think it will likely enjoy a good steady run even if it never makes it to the top three. Also, if the Oscar buzz holds true – for Angelina Jolie, for Clint Eastwood, for the movie itself, or all of the above – it will get another surge next year since Oscar contenders often get re-released to theaters and people flock to see what the excitement is about before the ceremony night.

In other news, Wanted will be available in six versions on December 2nd. You’ll have your choice of single disc, 2-disc special edition, Blu-Ray, Collector’s Edition set, and Blu-Ray Collector’s edition set. By the end of its theater run, Wanted grossed $134.3 million, which exceeded studio expectations, earning even more than The Incredible Hulk did.

Kung Fu Panda, which earned over $213 million at the box office (that’s just domestically, worldwide, it earned over $604.5 million!), will be released on DVD November 9th. It will include a stand-alone short film called The Furious Five, which features back story on the main characters.

And in addition to that, Angelina Jolie will be back in her voice role for the Kung Fu Panda sequel, Pandemonium which is tentatively set to be released in June 2011.

Inglourious Basterda is still filming in Germany, and there are some photos of the set over here. Brad was still in the U.S. as recently as October 31st so he seems to be on a nice little film break but may have more filming to do coming up.

And as always, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will be released in theaters on December 25th, a great choice if you enjoy seeing movies on Christmas Day. It’s not a tradition I’ve ever participated in, what with Christmas being packed full of family things, but if I did, I know that’s the movie I’d pick to see!

Whew! I think we’re all caught up now!

JW & nadia – sorry for the typo, Kung Fu panda made over 604 million worldwide, I’ve fixed the info. Further proof that I should always have two full cups of coffee in my bloodstream before I write anything!

  8. heaven says:

I went to go see Changeling last night, and i must tell you, the movie and portrayal of the characters are astounding. The story itself, like Angie had said during her interviews… it’s hard to believe that all the events that took place actually happened to one person. if i didnt know it was a real story, i wouldnt have believed it.

i know when a movie is great because it doesnt end. i thought about it, and could not stop “feeling”, feeling for her, for everyone. and that feeling followed me even after i had left the theater.

  9. gena G. says:

JW IT IS NOT 6MILLION IT IS 600MILLION YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE. GOOD FOR ANGIE ,I KNOW THIS MOVIE IS A GOOD ONE EVEN THE MIGHTY HEART WAS A VERY GOOD ONE, JUST NOT RELEASED IN ALL THE THEATER. THANK YOU SHERRY FOR THE UPDATE. GOD BLESS YOU.

Lord i’ll do anything for angie and brad’s oscar 2009. LOL!

  11. Veski says:

Thought you’d like to know that Wanted world wide box office gross :$338,794,280

  12. sarita says:

Angie’s performance in Changeling was riveting. Anyone out there who may have read any bad reviews (there are a couple): don’t listen. Angie is pretty much flawless and totally lives the role; she is completely believable as Christine Collins, and you really feel what Christine is going through as you watch the movie progress. BRAVO!!!

  13. gena says:

Thanks Sherry for updates. I saw Changeling last Friday and loved it. It just amazed me in how the police lied. I know some of the critics said that Angie cried throughout the movie, but she reacted like a mother does. As a matter of fact she was stronger then me. I would have been crying continuously and would have lived at the police station. And the way they threw her into the asylum because she was challenging them. What an intense story and was true!!! Angie did a wonderful job. The way she acted when shooz by the doctor at the asylum! I started crying by the way she was treated. I felt so sorry for her, she had such hope that her son was alive. I cried throughout the movie and cheered when she triumped. Angie did an excellent job! Hopefully she will at least be nominated. I have a feeling that the secret society of the Oscar may lean toward Ann Hataway or Kate Winslet or Merly Streep or the actress in “Happy Go Lucky”. I have not seen these movies. I just hope Angie gets nominated all the way to the Oscars and not get short changed. Brad has good chance for getting nominated, the studio is really pushing that movie. But he is up against Sean Penn, the guy in the Westler, the Australia guy and of course Leo. I just want him to get nominated! Sounds like CCOBB has a chance for best picture for there will be no other picture like it.
    Sorry to write so much.

  14. gena says:

Wow, I didn’t know that KFP did so well. I will get the dvd and Wanted when they come out!!!! Love my girl!!!!!

  15. Lucy says:

I am just wondering the box office reqirement of the Oscarologists since last year, Marion Cotillard won the Best Actress from her movie which died in the box office. Last year also, was the lowest rated viewers of the Oscar rating on tv. I hope these Oscar people will realize the Brangie appeal with more depth during Oscar season. Meryl Streep has a movie contender too called “Doubt.” Sean Penn too has “Milk.”

  16. Victoria says:

I just want to say something still about this whole adoption tabloid story. Many pointed out that as Brad and Angie could only start the adoption process when the twins will be 6 months old, and then it would take up to another year or so; however remember when Pax was adopted? Shiloh was six months old at the end of November 2006, so they could have only started the adoption process then. Yet, Pax already joined the family in February or early March 2007, just three months later. So it doesn´t necessarily take that long at all. They could have a new kid as early as spring next year. (I hope not).

  17. pacx says:

i saw CHANGELING , friday and i think it was magnificent. ANGIES performance was
amazing , if she does not get a nomination for oscar this time i definitely will be mad.
the movie was emotional and compelling.
as long as it was it never became boring , it kept you at the edge of your seat .
sensational work for all , it was great.

  18. Mary Ann says:

Cristine, I saw that also about Brad and Leo, but I also saw that Sean Penn is coming out in Dec. in a movie about Harvey Milk. And I had read a few days ago that the people who vote on on the Oscars love movies about real people. Good luck to all of us today in the USA. I hope who ever wins will lead this country back.

  19. nadia says:

I was going through some of German papers and there are few reports and images that IB has continued shooting and Brad has not been seen yet. There is also some report from a fan who tried to catch a glimpse of Brad while they were shooting in Neuen and she says that he comes by helicopter to the set and on the end there is a video of some party in Berlin where that Til actor attended and reporter asked him how is Brad, he says that he is great colleige and actor , you can see those reports on celebicthy, but there are still no reports on whether they came back to berlin. i just do not understand how they stay so under radar, they must have left to Ethiopia or they in L.A. relaxing.

  20. Rita says:

there are photos on WENN of the filming of IB in Goerlitz, Germany, a town very close to teh polish border, east of Dresden (a couple of hours away from Berlin). No Brad sighting

  21. Ligaya says:

(Kim, hee, actually Sherry usually gets the scoop, anyway I’ve been busy with electionn stuff and defending Angelina’s honor on some Oscar blogs – more on that later)

Variety, Hollywood Reporter: “Universal got spectacular results from 15 runs of “Changeling” in nine markets. The Clint Eastwood-helmed pic bowed with $502,000, or $33,441 per house (the highest of all the LIMITED RUN movies).”

Variety: Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling,” from Universal, grossed a NOTEWORTHY $9.4 million from 1,850 as it went nationwide to place No. 4. Drama posted a per location average of $5,085, THE BEST OF ANY FILM IN THE TOP 10 CHART.

The Hollywood Reporter: “Changeling jumped 16 places to No. 4 with $9.4 million in its first weekend of wide release. Including its haul from a limited opening last weekend in nine markets, the total stands at $10.1 million – **more than A Mighty Heart’s domestic total.**

  22. Ligaya says:

UNDER MOD: Variety & Hollywood Reporter’s analysis of Changeling’s box office numbers from this weekend and a weekend ago.

  23. Ligaya says:

    boxofficemojo:

Changeling rang up $9.4 million on around 2,000 screens at 1,850 sites. The Clint Eastwood-directed period drama, for which both grieving mother and fighting-the-system angles were pushed in its marketing, ranks as Angelina Jolie’s best start as the top-billed lead in a drama. According to distributor Universal Pictures’ exit polling, 68 percent of Changeling’s audience was over 30 years old and 61 percent was female.

    boxofficeprophets:

Finishing fourth is Changeling, a film that proved to be excellent counter-programming against such a strange weekend. Changeling earned $9.4 million from a very small venue count of 1,850. It had the best venue average in the top ten, coming in at $5,085. From director Clint Eastwood and current it-girl Angelina Jolie, Changeling had the goods to draw audiences. Changeling had an internal multiplier of 4.1, which tells us it was not ignored on Friday night.

This opening is a huge success for Universal, Eastwood and Jolie. Clint Eastwood’s last English language film was Flags of our Fathers, and it opened to $10.2 million in October of 2006. However, it was surrounded by a lot more fanfare, and the opening weekend was considered somewhat of a disappointment.

Changeling, on the other hand, has not been embraced by critics. Reviews are currently split down the middle on this one, with a 54% fresh rating at RottenTomatoes. Unlike Flags, Changeling isn’t a director’s follow-up to an Oscar winner (Million Dollar Baby).

For Angelina Jolie, this is a respectable start, considering she’s carrying the film and no one is being blown up. She has already bested the gross of her previous Oscar bait, A Mighty Heart, as the story of Daniel Pearl’s widow finished with a domestic total of only $9.6 million.

This just in from this article:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/obama by NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer:

“Sensing a historic victory, a massive crowd of supporters that included celebrities Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt gathered in Grant Park to hear Obama speak later in the night, a fitting final event for a campaign that has drawn eye-popping audiences across the country. Evening temperatures were in the 60s — rare for Chicago in November.”

  27. Gena says:

DH and I saw Changeling on Saturday. It was an intense story, and Angie was (pardon the cliche) luminous. She really delivered a great performance.

  28. gena says:

I really like this movie, wish it was out on dvd. I have seen it three times. Each time I saw something different. Love it! The photography and costumes are beautiful. Love Angie’s acting, she should at least get a nomination.
I cry now when I see pictures from the movie!!!
With the other movies that are out there, Changeling is the only one that is serious with some meat to it. The others are comedies. Went to Soulman with my husband. Rated it 2 stars. A lot of profanity.
