Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie SAG Award nominations!

December 18, 2008 by Sherry

14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Arrivals

The SAG Award nominations were announced this morning, and much like the Golden Globe nominations, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are both contenders in a variety of categories.

Brad Pitt is nominated for best actor and faces competition from Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Frank Langella (Frost Nixon), Sean Penn (Milk), and Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler).

Benjamin Button is also up for best ensemble, up against Doubt, Frost/Nixon, Milk, and Slumdog Millionair, and Taraji P. Henson is nominated for supporting actress as well.

Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie is nominated for best actress, going head to head with Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married), Melissa Leo (Frozen River), Meryl Streep (Doubt), and Kate Winslet (Rev Road).

So much talent all around, the awards are all going to be interesting to watch.

Meanwhile, this is certainly a nice birthday present for Brad Pitt, being nominated for a SAG award. Congratulations to them both!

(Remember when Brad and Angelina attended last year’s SAG Awards and everyone was still trying to figure out if she was pregnant and she wore the dress in the above photo? That was fun!)

Congratulations, Brad and Angie! Brad couldn´t have gotten a better birthday gift as a SAG Award nomination. He truly deserves it and so does Angie too. They both are very gifted actors and deserve to win every possible award there is.Naturally to them the biggest and most precious gifts are their adorable children!

Congralutlations to both Angie and Brad. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that at least one of these awards would be theirs. I’m someone of a skeptic these days, I’m sorry. Sometimes, I just think there’s a “conspiracy” against them, but I’m still wishing and wishing for them to win as they are both deserving. Will be so nice to see them at the RC.

  12. Neela says:

Even if neither one of them wins an acting award, they were at least nominated. That’s still something to be proud of.

  13. isacutie says:

That is true, Neela. :) And to us their fans, I think we’re very proud of them.

  14. Mary Ann says:

isacutie, I agree with what you have said. Glad they are nominated, but I am not to hopefull.

  15. Lili May says:

How wonderful for Brad & Angie and what a great birthday present for Brad. I hope that one or both of them will win one of these awards. But I am inclined to agree with Isacutie about a HW conspiracy against them. If they don’t get Oscar nods, it will reinforce my suspicion.

  16. lili says:

congrats to the two most popular couple in the showbiz..more power!!

  17. sarita says:

    I don’t know, here’s why I think they have a shot:
    1) SAG and Globe nominations are good indicators of the Oscars, so Angie and prob Brad will def be in contention.
    2) Angie’s performance was underrated though Variety and others RAVED; everyone loves Clint; some critics have been lukewarm on Streep’s and Hathaway’s performance, and many do not like the movie Revolutionary Road (though I think Winslet IS her biggest competitor).
    3) Brad has never won an Oscar (or been nominated for one in the lead actor slot), and I think many people in the biz love him and root for him. So it could def be his year for an Oscar nomination, if not a win.

I keep my hopes up because I think this might be the year Hollywood finally rallies around its golden couple. The scandal’s died down and Brad and Angie continue to do good work, which I think many are recognizing. So keep the faith Pittwatchers! :)

  18. I do indeed remember the whole “Is or isn’t she?” thing going on last year (it feels weird to say that, since it’s still 2008, but techincally, it HAS been almost a year since then!) after the pictures from the SAG Awards were released. Also, it’s amazing to think that the twin rumors were already floating around at that time.

That part actually makes me sad, as the only way I can think of that the tabs knew Angie was having twins so early on was that some staff person at the clinic Angie’s OB/Gyn is at leaked her personal records to the press. Of course, the tabs COULD have just gotten lucky by guessing correctly, but the fact that every single one of them was saying she was pregnant and that it was twins is very suspicious to me. The chances of them ALL getting lucky at the same time are very slim.

All of that said, I don’t know why, but even before the pictures of Angie wearing that very unchareteristic dress at the SAG Awards came out, I pretty much believed the pregnancy rumors from the get-go. I was a little skeptical at first, but when every single one of the tabs started reporting it, I got suspicious. Plus, something just told me that the rumors were right that time around.

Anyway, knowing the type of person Angie seems to be, I don’t think she was ever trying to make the pregnancy some big secret. I think she figured she’d wear loose-fitting, bump-camoflauging clothes for as long as she could (especially in those early months when the risk of miscarriage is still quite high), and then let her bump speak for itself (and she did just that at the Independant Spirit Awards!).

I also have to say that it sounds like Angie had little to no morning sickness, just as she did (or rather didn’t) with Shi (she mentioned in some interview that she had almost no morning sickness). If she did, she certainly hid it very well!

  19. UNDER MOD- I’m getting a bit nostalgic thinking about last year’s SAG Awards.

  20. Oh, and I realize this probably won’t happen, but it would be nice if Shiloh ends up getting an honorary Oscar for her cameo in CCOBB.

  21. gena says:

I just hope they are nominated for an Oscar. They don’t have to win, just want the nom.

  22. Aurora says:

    Congrats Brad and Angie!

I am very confident that both of them will be nominated for the Oscar :) and I will be extremely happy when that happens!

  23. Mary Ann says:

mysmichelle thank you so much, that is a wonderful write up. Question: Kathleen Kennedy the producer is she one of Robert Kennedy’s daughters?

Happy Holidays to all my friends here at Pittwatch. I hope everyone will enjoy their time with their families. Stay safe and I hope that 2009 will be better for everyone.

Sherry, a special thank you for this site. You do a great job. Enjoy your holiday with your family.

  24. Danny Le says:

Congrats! I would love to fly anywhere and give them the best manicure secretly before the awards( in my cost). I don’t want anything besides showing how much appreciated they are to help Vietnam( mine and Pax’s country). Thanks sherry for everything. Happy holidays to all Pitt watch FANS!

  25. mélodie says:

congrats brad and angie! i’m proud to be a fan of you.

happy holiday to everybody here! i begin my exams on january 5th, so for me, christmas holiday= study!!!!

i’m really happy to come here and to speak with you!

  26. mélodie says:

    OMG:
Paramedics were called to the Los Angeles home shared by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Thursday night, and that an elderly man was transported to the hospital, reports OK! !!!

i’m afraid and hope everybody in brad and angie’s entourage is fine!

  27. neer says:

Regarding Ben Affleck’s comment that AJ is not high profile enough as UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, some people were saying that it was said in jest. Whether his comment was just a joke or not, It is still not proper as the subject matter (helping refugees etc) is a SERIOUS thing. It is not something to make silly remarks. There is always a PROPER TIME FOR EVERYTHING

He can help in his capacity WITHOUT THE NEED TO UNDERMINE THE EFFORTS,TIME, MONEY spent by other people specifically Angelina Jolie. If he really wanted to help, fine, good for him and for the unfortunate ones but he SHOULD LEARN WHEN TO SHUT HIS MOUTH. What a way to draw attention to himself but to use Ms. Jolie who I have high regard & respect for the things she has done in her own capacity for the past years up to the present.

SHOWING KINDNESS FOR OTHERS is always good but TO CRITICIZE the kindness of others is JEALOUSY & JUDGMENTAL.

  28. angela says:

melodie: i think it was the JP’s neighbor or something like that who called the paramedics (not quite sure though). goodluck with your exam. you can do it. (wink :P)

i hope i am wrong but i have this feeling that angie won’t be nominated for the oscars. i just have this feeling that she’ll be snubbed again, but i hope they won’t this time. (fingers crossed)

  29. Lisa, I didn’t see anywhere on that site to vote for Shiloh, but I DID vote in their “Who will be the first to get pregnant in 2009?”…and ended up giggling at the results. Angelina is in second so far (Katie Holmes is in first).

The woman confirms they will be adopting next, AND that they will wait a little while before adding to their family, and people STILL think she’ll get pregnant again next, and early in 2009, to boot! Does nobody actually read her interviews anymore?

I also chuckled at the fact that JA is currently in third in the poll…but don’t even get me started there!

  30. Oh, and Melodie, if it came from OK, I’d take it with a grain of salt if I were you. I think that if there were any truth to it being someone in their entorauge, especially if it was a family member (Brad’s father was the first person who came to mind when I read your comment, although I don’t know if he can yet be classed as elderly), I think it would have been reported by more legimite media sources by now.

  31. Oh, and I stand corrected in my earlier comment about all the tabs reporting that Angie was expecting twins before she “announced” the pregnancy herself. If I am remembering correctly, I don’t think Ugh Weakly jumped on the “twin train” right away.

  32. gena says:

Can’t believe it has almost been a year since the last award season and all the hype about Angie being pregnant or not. I hope Angie and Brad are nominated for an oscar. They don’t have to win, just want them to be nominated. They always seemed in the past to be short changed in the end, nominated for all the other awards leading up to the oscars and even being on the pre-oscar panel. Then not nominated. So lets all put our prayers together and hope they are nominated!!!!!

  33. BlessBrangelina says:

Congratulations to both Brad and Angie!

    AND Happy Christmas/holidays to everyone.

  34. Mary Ann says:

Neer, I agree with you. When I read what Ben A said I had to keep re-reading it to try to figure out if he was serious or not. Any way I didn’t like his statement.
    Happy Holidays to all

  35. Neer, my guess is that Ben wasn’t serious. I just can’t picture Ben Affleck saying something like that unless he was just joking. Ben and Jennifer (Garner, obviously) are two of the most down-to-earth celebs out there, and I just can’t picture either of them putting other celebs down!

  36. gena says:

I’m trying to see all the movies and actors that have been nominated. However, several of the movies are not showing in my hometown. When I was in Dallas during the holidays I got to see Slumdog M. and the Reader. Kate W. was really good in the Reader. Slumdog was good but I like CCOBB for best picture, just feel that the meaning behind the story is so beautiful. CCOBB is different. In Slumdog you know at the end that the boy and girl will get together. Typical story, poor kids with hard life in India, determine to find the girl and goes on show that she likes to watch in hopes that she will see him.
Now CCOBB is so different and just beautiful.
Taraji should be nom for an oscar. She was really good. I just hope Angie and Brad are nominated, I just feel that they may not win. Just want them to be recognized by the academy and nominated. I hate for them to be invited to that stupid panel before the nom as done in the past years and then not nominated.
