Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Use $8 Million to Make the World a Better Place
According to Fox News (I know, I know, bear with me though), Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie filed documents for the Jolie-Pitt Foundation and the numbers are undeniable. While some celebrities squander their money on partying and others use it for questionable purposes (hello Scientology), documentation shows that in 2006, Brad and Angelina put over $8 million into their charity foundation.
Brad put in $4,402,317 while Angie put in $4,123,613.
Talk about putting your money where your mouth is.
(Just an FYI - My youngest daughter is now sick and apparently has the beginnings of bronchitis, according to the doctor. Between that and Easter, I’ll be busy around my home. I’ll still be posting, but please understand if I’m slow to respond - I’ll do my best as always!)

Sherry, hope your daughter gets and feels better soon. They do give a lot of themselves money and time-wise. For some people out there, not on this site, but other places who always say that they want to “publicize” what they give, that’s is completely false. Take this example, people dug up their tax records. They don’t go running up and down the street saying “look at me. I gave da da da this year to charity.”

Sherry, I do hope your daughter gets better soon, and I’m sure we JP fans understand if you aren’t able to answer/post/update the blog and the comments right away.
This kind of news is always very heartening to read. I really admire these two for trying to make a difference. Bravo, Brad and Angie!

I heard or read about I can’t remember an interview on CNN in which Angelina revealed that she gives 1/3 of her income away to good causes. I don’t know if that’s still what she does now or what. In addition to the serious effort she puts into travelling for the UN etc it’s staggering. She and now Brad seriously put the rest of Hollywood to shame. These others who feel soooo good about themselves because they host one or two events that are supposed to help children, or whatever… OK this is radical, but it’s how I feel: I think that people who are serious about changing things for the better should devote about 1/3 of what they have/do to that (whether it be through adoption, raising kids, whatever). The others it’s just trivial talk…

Sherry hope your daughter will feel better soon. Alot of sickness all over. Your family must come first, and all of us here at Pittwatch understand that. Brad and Angie as usual keep on helping so many people who can’t help themselves. I believe that this just the being of all the good this couple will do.

Damn that’s a lot of money…lol But, as they always say, “behind every good man there is a great woman” and together they make a magnificant pair.
God will always bless the Jolie-Pitt family.

They certainly walk the walk. Brad and Ange are a fine example of using their celebrity to do good. I hope that more (celebs) will follow their lead.

There’s something I was curious about and wanted to ask for anyone who could provide the answer:
If Brad and Angelina put in the 8+ million into the Jolie-Pitt Foundation in 2006, how exactly does that work in regards to their personal income tax return? Wouldn’t they get back a portion or a lot of the money they put in? I know most of what I give to charity is a tax reductible contribution. Is it the same way for Brad and Angelina even if it is their own charity or does that make a difference?
And I’m not questioning anything they’re giving b/c I am a huge admirer of their charity work (and as Sherry stated herself: they give so much more than a lot of other celebs), but I was curious to know if they actually receive that money back through their own personal returns? If they do, I wonder if they just pump it back into their charities (would almost be better if they did- more money to help out).
Also, wasn’t there some story awhile back that said Brad and Angelina were working on a show featuring Doctors Without Borders (since that was one of the organizations they gave $ to)? I was wondering if there was any news about whether that will be a legit project? Sounds really interesting and I would definitely check that out.
Thanks everybody :-)

I guess since you contribute regularly maybe you can find out and share your wisdom with us. I think Most personal charity giving is tax deductable, as far as I know.
HOWEVER as this is their FIRST year we don’t know how Brad and Angie will spend any returns they get. We may need to wait until next year to find out. Because am very certain that nosey reporters will be digging into their “trash” again to catch them out.
However regardless of whether they reinvest or not am proud that they gave the first time around.
Regarding the DWB drama I believe the writer talked about it about a month ago and they are working on it.
Hope this helps your research a little.
PS: I wander if other stars OR “ordinary people” reinvest their charity tax returns?
Am just interested that’s all.

thanks for the answer!! I think the idea for the show sounds wonderful :-) And yes, it is wonderful that Brad and Angelina contributed that much money in 2006…more celebs should take that initiative. They remain an inspiration for all of us :-)

Doesn’t seem like much if they gave away the money they got for Shiloh’s baby pictures (which I think were around $4M). So, one of them only gave that amount away during the year of 2006.

I don’t think any reporter would be so hypocritical as to complain that they kept their tax refund, if they do. Heard of ‘looking a gift horse in the mouth’? They’ve given serious money and I think people don’t really realize how much it is- its as if its just a number.

*huh* Read my response to Susan again.
Which “reporters” reports do you read regularly? Heck even the NYT and CNN have been known to be hypocritical, especially when it comes to people they don’t particularly like.

Doesn’t seem like much for them since they received half of that amount for Baby Shiloh’s pictures when she was born. Believe they were given ~$4M for the pics. So, one of them only gave that amount (what they received for her baby pics) for 2006.

I seem to remember ?GettyImages said they managed the money Brad and Angie were paid for Shiloh pics. It was to be given directly to the charity in their name, and I believe ?People mag announced it.
The monies from the report relates to the money they put in and gave away through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. I read that the IRS has to publish all foundation/charity records/taxes, that’s how Fox et al got their hands on it.
Also the figures for Shiloh’s pictures like the JLo pics, I think, were highly exagerrated.

To all who criticize & minimize Angelina & Brad’s charitable contributions, would y’all please post *your* contributions in 2006, and explain what percentage of your income that is?
A contribution is a contribution, whether it’s a penny or hundreds of millions. We expect richer people to donate proportionally more than us ordinary folks, of course.
I don’t see how people can brush off millions of dollars in donations which save people’s lives as meaningless or irrelevant. Must be because they’ve never gone hungry, homeless, in need a medical care & safety for their lives, and don’t know its value. Or they’re just desperately eager to put down Angelina & Brad in any way they can.
I’ve had those experiences, I’ve seen other people have those experiences in underdeveloped countries & in the U.S. I’ve helped people in those conditions - believe me, we/they’re thankful for any help they get.
All the harping by the 8ters don’t put food in the people’s mouths, coats & socks on their bodies, or give comfort with their empty words.

Susan, maybe you can look this up in your research.
I believe that individuals are treated as separate entities from their foundations, businesses, etc. When I had a home business, those taxes were separate from my husband’s & my joint personal income taxes. Angelina & Brad would either file separate income taxes or file a joint income tax return. Plan B would file its own taxes, and the Jolie-Pitt Foundation would file its own taxes. The State of Califiornia and I.R.S. have very strict rules & regulations about keeping these separate - I think the legal word is “commingling.”

BlessBrangelina, you are right, but to explain, what I said re reporters was really a reference to other hypocrisy around that I didn’t want to react to directly - but I know what you mean! :)
Ligaya, I agree re publishing your own contribution before criticizing and re the big difference any money can make. Thank goodness comments can’t take away the good the money will do.
I really don’t want to give anyone the (pretty useless) satisfaction of reacting to plainly inflammatory comments. Also, these lonely people should not be attacked, its truly a shame for them. :(
Give me strength!
