Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie Date Night

by Sherry on December 9th, 2007

The tabloids like to write phony stories about how Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are always fighting over one thing or another. Well, the other night, Brad and Angelina went to a fight for date night! They joined Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani for the WBC Welterweight title fight between Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton. It was at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

Apparently it was quite the celebrity hot spot as Denzel Washington, David Beckham, and Kid Rock were also spotted cheering on the match.

Congratulations PittWatchers! In the 1st week of Project Pink’s 5 1/2 week duration, we donated over $2425!!! (cue roar of the crowd) Gracias - Christine, Czechjoyce, Deb, Discosupafly, Gena, Jamie, Joy, Ligaya, Lily May, Lori, MaryAnn, Melissa, Sherry & Raqchel. (I’m sorry if I missed anyone.)

The donation is actually bigger because Carole, Cheryl, Katellemon, Laura, & Linda didn’t specify amounts.

Also, Bruce, Isacutie, & 804 pledged donations.

At the end of the 1st week, 10 of 150 houses were paid for. Jimmy Buffett donated (he’s got a restaurant in NOLA) and Larry King said he’d give money. Alcoa also announced that they’d donate.

    Great work, everybody!

Donna Karan and the band Widespread Panic each donated whole houses (Jimmy Buffet too).

Hi everyone. I read on JJ that Jude Law, Johnny Lee Miller and David Beckham were there too. Who did Brad and Angie cheer for? I am so happy for Brad and Angie that they can spend quality time together in Vegas without the kids. “Lainey” said it must the leather. By the way, I also contributed last week to NOLA.

Hello to all my friends here at Pittwatch. Happy Holidays to all of you. It sure is great we are all giving to Make it right. But I just can not help wondering why those 150 houses were not paid off immediately. There are so many wealthy people in the show business industry that 155,000.00 is a drop in the bucket to them. Shame, shame on all of them. But it seems like we see the same people giving over and over. Maybe if some of these personalities who are having so many problems with the law, would put some of their excess energy into helping others they would stay sober and free of legal problems. The money they are spending clubbing night after night and having to pay their lawyers when they get into trouble would sure help the less fortunate.

i thought that what they showed yesterday was clips we had seen before or that were aired Tuesday. but it waws still nice to watch.
As well, i don’t know if anyone has seen yet, but remember last week when 10 houses had been sponsered, well now i just checked and they have 27 houses sponsered. i think in a few weeks time the MIR project will make it to the 50 sponsered homes mark. but i agree with you Mary Ann, there should have been more wealthy celebrity sponsers/donors to the MIR project other than just brad and angie.

Jennifer & BlessBrangelina - haven’t had time to check that spanish website.

There’s been lots of coverage - legitimate & tabloid — of the JPs at the fight. I subscribe to Yahoo & Google alerts for Angelina & Brad, I saw lots of articles. i don’t remember if People was one of them (I think so) & a goggle search can confirm it.

Karen Dalton-Beninato, (the author co-founded the New Orleans Musicians’ Relief Fund with her husband). HuffingtonPost, Wed, 12 Dec 2007, 5:32 AM PST

    Brad Pitt: NOLA’s Oprah

As Oprah Winfrey takes her Barack Obama support on the road, the celebrity currently courting 2008 candidates’ involvement in New Orleans recovery is Brad Pitt. When pressed on tonight’s Larry King Live for a presidential endorsement, Pit said:

    “I’m still . . . I still . . . I lean . . . I’m still listening.”

Being from the Show Me State of Missiouri and a part-time New Orleans resident, Pitt seems to be waiting to see how important the city becomes for each candidate before issuing an official endorsement.

Democratic frontrunners including Obama and John Edwards have swung hammers at the Habitat for Humanity Musicians Village, the brainchild of Harry Connick, Jr. and Branford Marsalis. On tonight’s show, King let his guest know that Hillary Clinton planned to back Make It Right’s 9th Ward program. With the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund a major sponsor of Make It Right, that’s no great surprise.

Pitt said he was thankful for any candidate’s involvement in New Orleans, and added that Make it Right has support from Barack Obama’s camp as well.

“I hope it is one of the major issues in this campaign. I hope it’s used not so much as a whipping stick for the past administration but really used as a proving ground.”

Sounding at times like Grandpa Larry asking why you give your kids such weird names, which was an actual question, King gamely peered into devastated 9th Ward homes with Pitt, bringing that image back into the lives of CNN viewers who may not have New Orleans at the top of their presidential priority list two years after Hurricane Katrina.

Last week, the New Orleans Times-Picayune quoted Pitt saying he wants all 2008 candidates to directly address the ongoing struggle of hurricane victims across the Gulf Coast.

“I would challenge all the candidates to focus on what’s going on down here, what’s not going on here,” Pitt told Krupa. “We’re going to build some houses here, but there are bigger issues that need to get answered here, such as education and health. These need to be major factors of the campaign. My point is: If you can’t get it right down here, you’re not getting it right anywhere. This is the place to do it, and there’s definitely a need for it right now.”

For any candidate who can bring comprehensive rebuilding plans to the table, hundreds of thousands of displaced New Orleaneans are still listening.

ligaya, not sure if I understood you correctly. Did Larry Kind ask Brad Pitt why he gave his children such weird names? And if so, what did Brad answer?

  • ligaya
    Dec 13, 2007 at 12:36 pm

Clarification, Sophia: none of that post was me. The whole thing was written by Karen Dalton-Beninato in the Huffinngton Post.

I think the video clip is up on Larry King’s website. I think Larry did use the word “weird.”

Brad was complimentary but vague in his answer. I expected him to be specific about the meanings of Maddox Chivan, Pax Thien, Zahara (sorry, I forgot 2nd name), and Shiloh Nouvel. I’ve read lots of articles about the kids’ names origins, so I was surprised that Brad didn’t do that.

  • Sophia
    Dec 14, 2007 at 5:15 am

Thanks, ligaya! I will check out the video clip. However, if he really used the word “weird”, I am not surprised Brad didn´t really go into it. It feels a bit insulting to call your choice of names for your children weird.

  • Sophia
    Dec 14, 2007 at 6:51 am

I just watched it. Thanks for the tip. I didn´t hear the word “weird”, but LK did say the names were not “Jane” or “Mary”, which of course is more a joking comment. I liked the way Brad did talk about his kids without actually revealing anything. He is very protective of his family.

Having Angelina Jolie as your mate certainly has its perks, but being equally noticed during 2007 awards season is apparently not one of them.

OTOH, Filmstew’s dvd reviewer liked AMH & loved Angie’s performance. It’s very well-written, and reading it was almost the same as watching it again (I’m going to watch the dvd one more time). I can think of 4 moments of poignancy. Which moments were the most moving for you?

    Updated figures:

    Domestic: $9,176,787 49.0%
    + Foreign: $9,556,086 51.0%

    = Worldwide: $18,732,873

    + $22.48 Million dvd rentals = $41,212,873 -$16 Million production budget = $25.2 Million profit

    Fire Walk with Angelina

You’ll read a lot of reviews about Angelina’s prematurely released Oscar hopeful. But we bet this is the only write-up that connects it back to David Lynch.

Monday, October 15, 2007 at 11:15 AM, by Brent Simon

A Mighty Heart is powered, though, by Jolie’s performance, and her portrayal of Mariane is one of mesmerizingly tightened effect and distress - her very soul seems clenched. Two big emotional moments leapt out for me,..

Mariane is asked if there is anything she would say to her husband if he could now hear her. The answer in and of itself is brief and obvious (“I love you”), but the sing-song, knee-jerk reflexivity of Jolie’s line-reading is heartrending, and a reminder that sometimes the most obvious sentiment is still the most poignant..

Having danced along the razor’s edge of doubt, hope and steadfastness for its entire running time, the declaration feels emotionally devastating. But it’s also moving in a genuine way, one tinged with discernment, and the compassion of tact — qualities that, if more greatly understood and embraced, could surely fuel more thoughtful, sympathetic worldviews.
