Brad Pitt is going to be a Bastard!

August 8, 2008 by Sherry

Cannes 2008: 'Changeling' - Premiere

It seems to be official now - according to Variety, Brad Pitt has officially signed on to play a role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards.

Hang on. I have to go breathe into a paper bag. Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino. This makes me SO HAPPY.

Okay, all better now.

According to the article, most of the movie will be in French or German with subtitles; however, Brad will still speak English, playing a “Tennessee hillbilly who assembles a team of eight Jewish-American soldiers to take on the Nazis”.

There had been rumors that Leonardo DiCaprio would be cast in a role as well, though there is no mention of it now; he may have had scheduling conflicts. Casting is predicted to be finished within the next couple of weeks.

Because of the location of the film itself, it makes sense for Brad to choose to take on this role. By the time actual filming gets started, the babies will be a bit older and filming will be done nearby, in parts of France and Germany, so hopefully the Jolie-Pitt family will be able to remain at the chateau.

(Thanks, Ligaya, for the heads’ up!)

Ok, totally random question but is it just the pic or do I see dandruff on his tux? Not that it matters, I was just wondering if anyone else sees that….

  3. Mary Ann says:

This will be an exciting movie.

  4. Rita says:

  8. Lola says:

  9. gena G. says:

oh that is a wise move for BRAD accepting this role knowing they will be in france for a while. see guys, this lovely couple think about their children safety first. they both knows, that it won;t be a smart move for the twins to travel that early, so making a movie in a place where they are at now is a very very good choice. by the time the movie is finish the twins might be start walking.HAVE A VERY VERY NICE DAY TO ALL THE LOVELY JOLIE-PITT FANS. YOU ARE ALL GOOD AND HONEST HUMAN BEING.

  10. sarahc says:

I hope that it’s a role that will show off his great acting skills.

  11. Ligaya says:

I think it will be a challenge for Brad, and that he’ll rise to it. Someone posted that he’d never been in a war movie before. It strikes me that Brad doesn’t look typically Jewish (unless his hair is dyed dark), but then neither did Paul Newman in Exodus.

Movie Biz 101: Not only does Angelina not have a publicist, she doesn’t have an agent.

    No representation has risks, rewards

“I think it’s very important and incredibly valuable to have an agency behind you,” says Jolie’s longtime manager Geyer Kosinski (and onetime agent), noting that she is an exception to the rule.

In fact, Jolie is an unusual case, at least among actresses, because filmmakers develop and write projects specifically for her — a rarity for female thesps who thus benefit from being part of a large agency and seeing material earlier than they would otherwise. Studios are even willing to tweak screenplays written for male actors between the ages of 25 and 40 and develop them as Jolie vehicles, in an effort to entice the actress.

Additionally, Jolie, who has been agentless since 1997 (with the exception of a three-month stint with CAA), is only interested in acting in one project a year — limiting the need for an agent.

    Really a cute interview!

IMDB has a thread with the People layout. Look at Brads page at the very bottom under Magazine scan.

i’m looking forward to see this movie!:)

gena, thanks for the link to taraji’s interview. nice.:)

  17. angela says:

Ligaya, hi! (waving)… sorry for the late reply, i was getting some rest. I love that idea of JP convention and the Pittwatch reunion but i think that would be difficult because it seems that we here in PW are scattered all over the globe. :) but i’m still hoping though that i’d be able to see your scrapbook.

Yay. i can’t wait for this movie.

    thanks for the link Gena.

  18. "another" Sherry says:

Gena, that was so cute that clip. “I’d be glad to help her” on AJ with Z’s hair
On Brad being in a war movie. “Legends of the fall” at the begining, at least, was a war movie. The scene where he’s in a ditch, smoking a cig w/
Samuel. Then seeing his brother caught in barbwire and getting shot. It was emotional for me whe he goes in this trans like state and cuts Samuel’s heart out to take back to his father.
I not it’s not quite the war movie but I get your gist

  19. isacutie says:

I love Brad and I like Quentin…this should be a good team-up. If Leo is part of it too, then great, because I like him too. I’m really intrigued by this movie. :) Hello to all JP fans around the world. There are very many of us, aren’t there.

  20. ema says:

Hello everyone! I’m so excited with his new movie, I think he’ll be great and I’m glad I will not have to watch this movie all by myself like I usually do:(, because for certain my hubby will want to watch it too because he loves WWII movies.

  21. cristine says:

i’ve never seen a war movie w/ brad and i’ve seen most of his movies. i’m sooo excited cuz this will be challenging for him and knowing brangelina they love challenges! brad is a great actor. he’s soo passionate w/ his craft so hopefully this movie will be an oscar nod. i thank God for continously blessing the BAMPZSKV family. more power and God bless to all the loyal jp fans around the globe!

Maybe the biggest stroke of genius is who he’s chosing — or, more precisely, how diversely he’s choosing. The cast offers something for everyone. Even on this partial list, there’s young and old, dramatic and comedic, quirky and hot, cult and mega-famous. You want to tune in just to see how much of a non-sequitir the next casting choice will be.

  24. margaritam says:

Did you read this article? It shows that Angie is one of the most powerful actress in Hollywood.

Aol.com has a list of the 6 homes allegedly owned by the Jolie-Pitts and their worth.

It makes them out to be stinking rich. But it’s fun to see the different houses…

  26. gena says:

This article says that Brad will only work M-F when filming and fly home on weekends to Angie and kids. May not be true but time will tell. We know how things are made up.
Glad you enjoyed the clip from Taraji, thought it was cute. Especially about helping out with Z’s hair.

  27. gena says:

So sorry to hear about Bernie Mac, my dtr called me when I was at work and said “I can’t believe about what happened to Bernie Mac” but I was unable to talk to her. Looked up on net and saw he had passed away from pneumonia in hospital in Chicago. He is on now in “Transformers”. He will be truly missed. I will say a pray for his family. Brad made a statement in US magazine article see link.

  28. gena says:

Why do some posts await moderation? What is the criteria for moderation?

  29. gena says:

There are several articles about Angie adopting a Chinese baby/child from the earthquake. Don’t think this is true for I heard on NPR radio that the Chinese have become more strict with adoption and you have to be married. A single female parent was interviewed and she had adopted before but is not allowed to adopt again. She said that the number of approved adoptions have decreased. Of course they always Angie adopting someone.lol

  30. gena says:

It is going to be interesting to see how Brad and Angie coordinate their schedules with premiers, film festivals and Brad shooting a movie in October. They proabably already have a plan. When Brad did the premiers for “Babel” Angie stayed with the kids when he was in Palm Springs, Toronto and in Las Vegas for Ocean 13. But now Angie will have some premiers also for “The Changeling”. Brad will also have “CCBB” coming out in December, so that will include premiers also. They are going to be busy.

  31. Sandy says:

I’m sure they will coordinate their schedules with their family in mind as they have consistently done the past few years. The difference between now and 2006 is Angelina will have commitments at the same film festivals as Brad (Deauville and TIFF specifically). One small correction to your post is that Angelina and the kids were actually with him in Palm Springs, however they stayed back at the hotel.

Certainly, part of his negotiations to sign up for this recent film with Tarantino included his desire of when he would work and any commitments he had concerning his family (i.e. Angelina’s schedule). I wouldn’t worry about :)

P.S. The source of the article with Brad being away from the family during the week/coming home on weekends is the Daily Mail (a very sketchy UK tab). They very RARELY have anything correct, let alone news about this family. From what each has said in the past, I doubt very seriously they would do that, especially with two very young babies. Realistically, if he has to be in Berlin for more than a week, they’ll more than likely rent a place there. As far gone as Brad is over his family, it doesn’t seem he’d want to spend that much time away from them and it certainly would be very difficult for their older children and Angelina who’d miss daddy.

  32. BlessBrangelina says:

Very happy for this pairing, I think Brad and Tarantino will work well together.

LOTF and SG had war scenes in it. Brad was in an early role as a lone soldier, I think it was called Contact?! I have never seen it but have seen screen caps from it!

  33. Ligaya says:

Gena, I read those reports and some that said the JPs are going to adopt an Ethiopian orphan soon. I agree they’re not true - coming from unreliable ‘media.’

This has the moderation policy: PittWatch Comment Policy http://www.pittwatch.com/pittwatch-comment-policy/. Neela posted a short explanation not too long ago - maybe she can tell you the thread it’s in. And Sherry posted a more detailed explanation shortly before that.

  34. isacutie says:

It is so sad to hear about Bernie Mac. May he rest in peace.

  35. angela says:

r.i.p. bernie mac i know he was in the ocean’s films with brad….so sad

  36. gena says:

Someone posted that on aol.com it said that they had six homes. Did they say where the homes are? I counted the 3 in California, 1 in NO. Where are the others? Do they have a home in Mo.? I read somewhere that Angie sold her home in England, don’t know if she still has her apartment in NY.

  37. Ligaya says:

Thanks, Gena, for the great Taraji clip.

I couldn’t find the AOL.com report listing the JP’s homes, and I don’t remember anyone listing all that information in one place before. Compared to us ordinary folk, the JPs *are* stinking rich. Compared to Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Warren Buffett, Icahn, Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison, Donald Trump, CEOs, and probably even Oprah, Angelina and Brad are probably on the stinking poor side. From different reports, I gather that these are their properties (I’ve forgotten the number but I know Oprah has several more homes than the Jolie Pitts, and that several celebrities own their own islands – like Jagger and Depp): 3 homes in California (Santa Barbara, Malibu, Los Feliz), New Orleans, at least one in NY, Berlin, Angelina’s home in England – if unsold, and Cambodia.

Most of us rent or own only one home. Seems wasteful and extravagant to have homes that are empty most of the time. I suspect living in hotels all the time gets old, they’re not as comfortable and familiar as their own homes, and familiarity would be good for the kids’ stability - not to mention being less accessible to paps. There are lots of people with second or vacation homes. One of my in-laws has a winter home, a summer vacation home, and a fall & spring home.

  38. Mary Ann says:

gena, I am not sure if that newspaper article is right about Brad working Mon thru Fri and then flying home. This is not the way they have handled other films. They would always packup the kids and go as a family to that location. Maybe the difference now is how young the twins are but I would be real surprised if it happens that way. They pride themselves on staying together.

  39. Ligaya says:

Remember the rumor that the Obama campaign had rejected the Jolie-Pitt’s participation? Remember when the JP’s stated that they hadn’t reached out to Obama, and when Obama’s people denied that they had rejected Angelina and Brad? I think the article below is probably more on the speculation side than hard news. It’s from a blog on the intersection between entertainment and politics, and is carried by the Huffington Post. (I used to think that the HuffPost was a hard news left-of-center blog, I’ve since learned that it’s a news aggregator so it doesn’t necessarily endorse everything it posts, and Bonnie Fuller, erstwhile former editor of the Star (I think), contributes a column(!?).

  40. Ligaya says:

Remember all the brouhaha about Angelina playing ‘blackface’ as Mariane Pearl? I could see both sides (in fact, I’m usually on the other side), but ultimately I felt that since Mariane wanted Angelina to play her – that should have been the end of it.

I’ve seen the Tropic Thunder trailer at the movies. It’s a satire skewering actors and the movie business. Robert Downey, Jr. plays a white man who has his skin dyed black so he can play a black character. I love and respect everyone in the movie, including Angelina’s KFP co-star Jack Black. The movie looks hilarious. But why haven’t we heard any objections from anybody, especially African Americans? Is it because TT is a comedy/satire? Is it because the actor playing blackface is a man? Is it because none of TT actors have h8ters?

In related news, disability organizations are likely to call for a boycott of Tropic Thunder for its excessive use of “retard.” I’m one of those dour, humorless, ‘politically correct’ people who don’t think that calling anyone or any group a demeaning name is funny or harmless. Two of the words I’d like retired from regular conversation is “retard” and “gay” as in “that’s so gay.” The exception to this would be if people were using these words to make fun of themselves, e.g. black comedians using the “n” word or disabled people using “crip” or “gimp.”

Interesting P.O.V. I don’t have an opinion - never thought about the points raised before.

    http://www.totallyjewish.com/news/TJ_leader/?content_id=9825

News that Brad Pitt is to star in Quentin Tarantino’s new movie Inglorious Bastards couldn’t have been more timely, nor its title more disturbing, given an unsettling trend in eastern Europe at the moment. . .Not that one suspects Quentin or Brad were intending to open any of these cans of worms. They’re probably just looking to make a great movie. But it won’t just be film critics passing judgement, it will also be Israel critics.
