Brad Pitt Lends a Helping Hand to NOLA’s Devastated 9th Ward
Brad has announced a design competition yesterday to benefit the lower 9th ward neighborhoods in New Orleans that are very behind in the rebuilding effort after Hurricane Katrina devastated the area last year.
From Brad:
“Truthfully, I dare say we witnessed, to our shame, the fact that there’s a portion of our society that’s being dismissed and that needs to be rectified and I thought that was a real casualty overall from the event.”
This competition is being run by Global Green USA, the US branch of an international environmental organization, and will ask people to submit their green designs to a team of architects and community members who will judge the designs, choose 6 finalists, and work closely with them to finalize a plan for the neighborhood rebuilding effort.
Brad said this about his love of design and architecture:
“I am a bit of a junkie. It’s inexplicable really. I believe we creatures are very susceptible to our surroundings. They can actually improve our mode of life and I personally am very affected … when I walk through an intelligent building. It inspires me. To me it’s like walking through a piece of art and, coupling that now with the green movement of the smarter architecture - of the healthier buildings with great design - is a very exciting prospect to me.”
Brad also talked just a bit about Namibia, after refusing to answer any questions whatsoever about the upcoming birth of his child. Here is what he had to say:
“Namibia’s just a country we’re very fond of. It’s a beautiful land and hospitable people and a place that we want to be for the time being.”

I love this Brad Pitt so much. He really seems to be becoming more and more free about expressing his true self, and about exploring his talents and bringing his dreams to fruition. I applaud him.

My random thoughts :-) :
I agree with what Brad is saying about architecture affecting people so much - our surroundings affect us so much. Also I think its great that he is drawing attention to such a good cause as rebuilding New Orleans.
There has been lots of speculation about what really happened between Brad and Angelina, and when it happened. I think the simple truth is that they fell in love. Their feelings are so obvious that it was always going to be hard for their exes to deal with it even if they were ‘over’ them.
Although I am fascinated by Angelina and Brad’s romance, I am glad for them that they have found a degree of freedom and privacy in such a beautiful country as Nambia. Even if it does mean less news about them. It will be interesting to see how the Nambian tourist industry develops now - I think it will be booming.

I agree with you BELLE I am glad they have found some privacy and the length that government is going to givethem and their family peace.I saw the phone interview on InsideEdition today where the lady ask him about the birth he laughed alot and then said absolutely not,it was nice to hear him laugh so much and politely let down the reporter.I read police have put up a perimeter around the beach and only the locals can cross it and the paps are now not allowed to shoot the hotel or the beach or they will be fined $100,000.

Belle, I agree also. I think they’re very happy and probably getting more rest and relaxation now then they’ve gotten since before they left the states months ago. I loved hearing him laugh also Jackie. He said the “absolutely not” also to the interviewer for the TV Guide. He’s not letting anything slip, and here they can’t shut TomKat up lol!

Just heard all the paps have been rounded up and kicked out,the government ain’t joking with them they were warned but they still didn’t listen.I am happy for them to get some relaxation, because we all know once they come back to the America its madness all over again.I could care less about seeing pictures of them right now because at some point in the summer we will see them again.Good luck to the BAMZ family relax and enjoy your vacation before the bundle of joy comes along you deserve it.

Belle, you said it just right. I’m also glad for the possibility of their having some privacy until the baby is born. None of us has any idea what it would be like to be under a literal microsope every minute—that had to be part of the “trouble” (if, of course, they were actually having trouble). I read a report that said they were bored (especially Maddox) but it sounds like from other reports they’ve been going on quite a few interesting outings in the area. I don’t know about all of you, but I’m so completely impatient for that little one to arrive!!
