Brad Pitt’s Eco Car
The carpet was red but the car was green - eco-green, that is! Brad Pitt arrived at the Ocean’s Thirteen premiere in a BMW Hydrogen 7 in L.A. the other night.

A BMW Hydrogen 7 is an environmentally friendly car. It runs on hydrogen, and the only emissions it gives off is water vapor. I know a lot of people have questioned his stance on the environment because not everything he does is eco-friendly (flying planes, some of his other vehicle choices) but you know, as far as I’m concerned he’s trying (and doing) more than a lot of other people, and showing up to a very public event with an environmentally friendly car like the Hydrogen 7 will help bring some media attention to alternate vehicle choices people can make.
Go Brad!

Going green doesn’t happen overnight. In the Bay Area, our garbage collecctors collect 3 bins (compost, plastic/metal, paper - and we don’t have to separate by types of paper anymore). Before it got so popular, families would have to take our recycling to a recycling center - that took dedication, time, and gas.
The anti-environmentalists want to discredit Brad, George, Leo, Gore and others by holding them to a much higher standard than everybody else. They want to distract us from the biggest problems - their oil companies, power plants, lifestyle, etc.
Hollywood stars/producers/publicists/body guards, etc. HAVE to fly because their job requires it. Someone asked Leo at Cannes if he had flown, and he said sure - there’s no train across the Atlantic. Look at the JP - Prague to Cannes to L.A. to Las Vegas, to Chicago. It’s crazy. And when they’re on press junkets, it’s grueling.

I love the Jolie-Pitts as much as anyone, but I have to disagree with this teeny, tiny statement. Driving an environmentally friendly car is AWESOME, but we don’t know if he recycles aggressively, buys organic and local, or makes any number of other environmentally friendly choices. I n the end, though, I suppose that even by buying a hydrogen run car, he is doing more than a lot of folks because most folks do ::nothing::.

while hydrogen is practically emission free, the energy used to produce a tank full is equivalent to brad driving a 16 tonne truck on his own. nice publicity stunt for bmw but you ain’t fooling me.

from a reader named Sarah from the EcoRazzi site:
(sounds like she knows just a tiny bit more than Jack in the post above. the car Brad arrived in was an Hydrogen ICE car, not the fuel cell vehicle…still, he is doing his part, however small it may or may not be)
“Hydrogen ICE’s are positive in that they rely largely on the existing engine technology of internal combustion engines and they are helpful in establishing the hydrogen infrastructure. However, these vehicles offer an incredibly poor use of hydrogen (only 10-15% efficient) and because of that combustion process they are NOT pollution free — they emit NOX from the tailpipe.
Fuel Cell Vehicles on the other hand, are much more efficient - actually 2 to 3 times as efficient as Hydrogen ICE’s. Additionally, because fuel cells do not use the combustion process, but rather use a electrochemical reaction, they are COMPLETELY pollution free — they emit only water vapor from the tailpipe.
Ultimately to get to the point of commercialization of Fuel Cell Vehicles the hydrogen infrastructure will need to be developed. Hydrogen ICE’s, therefore, are an important stepping stone to this goal.”
