Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Helps Build First Home!
Less than one year after announcing the start-up of Brad Pitt’s Make It Right campaign in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward the first Global Green house has been built. That is awesome! It’s the first post-Katrina home to go up in the area and was made with environmentally sustainable materials. This first house will also serve as a model home and visitors’ center while the other homes are being built.
Don’t forget you can still help out. PittWatch readers were awesome with donations, helping to build these much-needed homes for so many displaced families, I’m so proud of all of you.
There’s a full article over here about the current status of the Make It Right project.
Though Pitt hasn’t visited the home since its completion, Global Green president and CEO Matt Petersen said he’s sure Pitt will stop by eventually.
“He contributed significantly to this home being built,” Petersen said. “We’re deeply grateful for all that he has done.”
When you go read it, be sure you either read quickly or else create an account for yourself because the story will eventually remove itself and redirect you to a login page.
Thanks Ligaya!

i’m so proud to be a fan of people like brad and angie: they are models for everybody, they make a lot of good things.
i have a question who don’t concern brad and ange: do someone here know the Dixie Chicks? they are not really famous in Belgium, but in USA they are the biggest seller group (feminine). what did happen with them and President Bush?

Thanks Sherry. But I think that’s GG not MIR.
I read a blurp last year, that they had problems getting all the required paperwork to proceed with the building work. It seems like they have succeeded now.

You’re right, BlessBrangelina. That first house is part of the Global Green project to which Brad gave $200,000 to cover the design contest & prize money, plus his media power. The GG project will incloude 5 houses, a 28-unit apartment and a community center. Brad’s Make It Right Project will build 150 houses. I’m so happy for the Lower 9th Ward community that the construction is rolling along.
My hubby & I promised each other that we’d take our annual vacations in New Orleans for 7 years - hopefully it will be totally rebuilt by then. We’re spending New Year’s in NOLA - I’d love to visit the visitors center in Holy Cross & the MIR grounds.

Thank you Sherry for all the wonderful work you are doing! This is such a great site and although I don’t post comments as often as I would like, I make it a point to check this site whenever I can. I have some of my family (2 sisters, 1 brother-in-law, 3 nieces) from Manila here on their annual vacation, so I’m certainly busy.
What a wonderful news to know that the MIR project is on track and homes are getting built!
Regards to all the wonderful J-P fans: Ligaya, Irma, Maryanne, Isacutie, Alayna, Melodie, BlessBrangelina and all the others who regularly post on this site!

Melodie….If you are able to get a copy of the Dixie Chicks DVD “Shut Up And Sing” that will answer all your questions about what happened with President Bush. You can also google them and go to Wikipedia, which will give you all the details.

Melodie, other people may have different opinions. This is mine & my husband’s.
Short answer, it was ***terrible*** what happened to the Dixie Chicks! We’re huge fans now.
Before 9/11, our people & our country were divided by class, race, national origin, gender, religion, war, etc. On 9/11 we all became ONE, unified in our grief, identifying as one. Before 9/11, I don’t remember being proud of the American flag since 1964. And the world was one with us.
Unfortunately, Bush & Co. manipulated our nation with false information to preemptively strike Iraq. You may remember the 10 million around the world who marched against the war before Bush sent bombers. Everyone who had the slightest question about our course of action was branded a terrorist traitor.
THIS WAS THE CONTEXT in which the Dixie Chicks, Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Altman, Susan Sarandon & Tim Robbins, and others who voiced reservations were persecuted by the war-mad media. They were punished severely & in petty ways.
Opportunists like Toby Keith built his career by jingoistically vilifying the Dixie Chicks. And freedom of speech? Lost with our other civil liberties in the guise of war on terrorism. Don’t get me wrong - there is terrorism to fight, but not who & how Bush & Co. is doing it.

oh thank you ligaya! it’s really great to answer so frankly, it help me to understand.
you know, i’m at the university and i have a great interest on the study of “others” cultures. i would like to make a memoirs about the media and the “manipulation” they can make on the population. i think europeans and americans are similar but have sometimes different opinions. i respect every opinion and i want to understand them (it’s too that the freedom of speech!).
it’s really enriching to me to speak with you here, so thank you for your answers.
about the dixie chicks: i think it’s really a great group, their latest album is great!

Sherry - Always a pleasure and appreciation for your news, and commentators with their grace and appreciation of this generous and normal family.
Ilgaya, note: In addition to Brad
Pitt’s initial $ 200,000 o-o-p and his time for the plans, etc., he has put in $5,000,000 and will match any other donor’s $5,000,000.
So much more is needed…where
are the huge corporations with their officers leaving their company with golden parachutes and bonuses in the multi-millions?
Let’s Make It Right, people.

I must admit I also thought more corporations would get involved.
*Ligaya thanks for your take on the whole Dixie Chicks thing. GP has gone up a little more in my estimation.
