Brangelina Kid Shopping at the L.A. Times
This *cough* charming *cough* piece by L.A. Times writer Leslie Gornstein has sparked no shortage of controversy. Last week, Ms. Gornstein, under the guise of satire, made an attempt to figure out the who’s, what’s and where’s of the next child of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Her attempt at humor came off more like a vicious dig with nothing humourous in the mix at all, in my opinion. Here is the entry to the article, you can read the whole article here:
Less than a month after giving birth to her first biological daughter, Angelina Jolie said Tuesday that she plans to adopt another child. The Oscar-winning actress already has two adopted tykes — a boy, Maddox Chivan, from Cambodia, and a girl, Zahara Marley, from Ethiopia. Jolie also has her hands full with new baby Shiloh Nouvel. (We hear Shiloh’s father is an actor.)
“We’re looking at different countries,” Jolie told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “And it’s gonna be the balance of what would be the best for Mad and for Z right now. Another boy, another girl, which country, which race would fit best with the kids.”
Now that Cambodia and Ethiopia are, you know, so yesterday, where might the next Jolie-Pitt adoptee be?
You can find a long list of opposing viewpoints published by the L.A. Times here - I bet they are scrambling to make up for their error in posting that very non-humourous article. At the time of this writing, 62% of the readers answering a poll on that page thought the article was hurtful and un-funny. At the bottom of the list is a response from the editor:
The editors and writer Leslie Gornstein were satirizing a specific person, Angelina Jolie, who had remarked that her next adoption would depend on “which country, which race would fit best with the kids.” The satire was in no way intended to be a commentary on all individuals who adopt.
I think someone needs to re-read the definition of satire. This was no satire, this was a scathing blast against Brad and Angelina, and I guess she has received the attention she was looking for when writing it. Pitiful. Read what some other bloggers thought about it through this great article, from Mir at Blogher.

Im totally amazed that anyone could have anything bad to say about either Angie or Brad or their kids….this couple does more for humanitarian causes and charities than anybody I know…why dont other Hollywood stars take the time to do the same with their money….instead of having two and three residences, and ultra expensive, fancy cars….youd think they would be ashamed when they see pictures of starving kids in other countries ….and even our own country. They are such greedy rich people. Brangelina have good hearts and souls to do what they do….God Bless them.
