Burn After Reading sets weekend box office on fire

by Sherry on September 14th, 2008

According to USA Today, Burn After Reading shot to the top of the box office, and that wasn’t even counting today’s earnings. Just from Friday and Saturday night’s play times in theaters, the Coen brothers movie pulled in $19.4 million, which was $3 million more than was originally expected.

I guess people really wanted to see Brad Pitt dancing!

That’s because most fans know that when Brad is playing a “character” role it is always a treat.

Just saw it yesterday with my husband. It is a funny and crazy film. I did not expect the very humorous ending. Brad is truly a talented actor and not just a pretty face.

Wait until the Changeling premiere. Angie and Brad will be riding high on their career as well as personal successes. Then the tabloids will have to work overtime to find something negative to say about them. But the success of their movies will speak for the golden couple. Not to mention they just opened an AIDS clinic in Africa. Everything they touch turns to gold.

I stopped taking the tabloids seriously when they focus on sleazy rumors and not give credit (Angie and Brad’s generosity) where credit is due.

So I occasionally glance at tabloid headlines, but it’s all good laugh therapy when they say dumb negative things about our couple.

    Peace and happiness to all.

Glad “BAR” is doing so well and that Brad and Angie are being recognized for what their fans already know!

I need a good laugh!! Right now we are just trying to clean up after Ike. The eye came across our house and living 2 miles from Galveston Bay with all the talk of 20 ft surges, we got no water. But we are so blessed, no loss of life and all we lost was a trampoline and our wooden fence. Praise God. The entire coast and counties a hundred miles from the coast lost electricity so there is no gas.
really glad and proud for the jolie-pitt family and of course their fans.

I loved that movie, it’s a must see. Brad plays his part so well, hoping to see him in more funny movies since this was a scream.

After that “part” happened I don’t think I payed attention to much else. I nearly had heart failure and certainly didn’t expect that. I’m not sure exactly what I had done but everyone stared at me and laughed after I done it.

I for one helped at the BO. Brad is adorable and funny. I wonder if he plays some part of Chad’s character at home as well. Alot of my family members believed Brad was funny because he was playing himself. I don’t agree with them. But i think Brad also told to reporters Chad was him in Former day.

I’m glad you’re fine, BAMPZSKV. I hope the people without food are taken care of ASAP by FEMA and the Red Cross.

    ADORKABLE.

That’s how someone at TIFF08 described Brad Pitt as Chad in BAR. I totally agree, Brad is perfect in the role. Actually, everyone in BAR is pitch-perfect and hilarious. I have a feeling this is something I’ll love more and more each time I see it.

I went to a matinee and an evening show Saturday. Each time, it was about ¾ full in the biggest auditorium. At the matinee, it seemed to take awhile to set up the movie – then the laughs started coming one after the other. At the evening show, the audience seemed to get it sooner. Lots of laughter and surprised groans.

thanks everyone, I got out and drove around, it is terrible at the number of people who lost EVERYTHING. i AM SO THANKFUL AND ALMOST FEEL GUILTY because I was so in the middle of it all and came out so good.

I can’t wait to see the movie right now most places are out of power so no resturants, very few gas stations, few stores are open but are only selling nonperishables. I talked to a couple of friends who live on the water, both their homes were totally destroyed. sometimes we just don’t realize how lucky we are

God Bless you all and the jolie=pitts

    BAMPZSKV,

Glad to hear you and your family are ok. The devastation in Texas was sorrowful, I do hope Fema are more the ball unlike Lousiana and Katrina.

Ligaya, our theatre screen was more than 3/4 filled too, for the 830pm show. When we got out there were people waiting for the 11 show already, half an hour early.

Saw Burn After Reading, laughed hard, it was extremely funny. I forgot that the Coen brothers do tend to add comedic violence (if there is such a thing?) into their films….so be prepared. But it was HILARIOUS and I highly recommend it.

We saw it on Saturday night… and LOVED it! It was hilarious, believable (sadly)… shocking (when “it” happened - I was definitely not expecting it)… we loved all of the characters… they were all great…

Brad Pitt can be so funny, as long as he’s not taking himself too seriously… in any case, it’s about time someone made good use of his habitually spastic arm movements
