Columbia Pictures drops “Moneyball”

June 21, 2009 by Sherry

Here’s a bit of bad news for folks looking forward to seeing Brad Pitt in another movie; Columbia Pictures has dropped Moneyball for the time being. You can rest assured that it has nothing to do with Brad.

Columbia Pictures rep Amy Pascal has stated that they’re dropping the film because the final draft of the movie script had changed so drastically that she was no longer comfortable standing behind it – it’s radically different from the original script that she had agreed to.

What does all of this mean? Well, the first option is to see if another studio will pick the film up. If that doesn’t happen today they can either replace director Steven Soderbergh, delay the film until a new script is drafted that pleases everyone, or they can just scrap the movie altogether. In the meantime, if throwing the movie in the proverbial garbage isn’t an option for them, they have to hold out hope that Brad Pitt won’t walk away himself.

Moneyball was set to start shooting tomorrow. Sounds like Brad will be at home tomorrow instead. It must be such a let-down for him when he was all geared up to get started, but that’s how it goes sometimes with red tape.

this is a sad news for everyone who’s involved in this project. i bet they’re very dissapointed, i mean they’re probably all excited and ready to start filming. the only advantage of this situation right now is that Brad gets to spend more time with his family in which i believe he will surely enjoy but i do hope this movie will push through though.

If they get a new director or script, Brad could change his mind about doing the movie. To be honest, I wasn’t that excited about this project as a moviegoer but I do feel bad for everyone involved. If another studio doesn’t pick it up, atleast it will mean more family time. Maybe they can go to france.

  6. joy says:

Brad will be fine. I don’t think he’ll be upset much about it.

  7. Molly B. says:

another studio will pick it up

  8. Joseph says:

is Amy Pascal loosing her mind?

  9. Mary Ann says:

Wonder if they have to compensate Brad. He probably had turned down other work, or Angie also might have changed her schedule. Well as I said yesterday (not sure if it went through) maybe now they will plan a big family vacation.

Beauties Vanessa Williams and Iman look in the mirror
    Monday, June 22nd 2009, 4:00 AM

Every woman has qualms about her looks — we just assumed Vanessa Williams and Iman would be exceptions to the rule. But at the launch of renowned makeup artist Sam Fine’s new DVD, “The Basics of Beauty,” the poster women for beauty admitted that even they have a physical insecurity or two…..

So who do the pretty ladies think is their best-looking peer in Hollywood—even without any touchups?

    Said IMAN(Supermodel):

“Angelina Jolie. She’s a beauty. Cameron Diaz, too, and Halle Berry!”…….

I don’t understand how or why they greenlighted the film before seeing a final script..someone somewhere has dropped the ball. I hope Brad/Family can get away and just enjoy themselves a bit. Away from all the crazy gossip and rumors..

    Phillip Noyce Talks “Salt”
    http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/14469/exclusive-phillip-noyce-talks-salt-

Best part is when he talks about Angelina Jolie:

“… the major thing the audience is going to find is that the movie’s a showcase for the incredibly diverse talents of Angelina Jolie. When I say “incredibly”, that’s not an understatement. Incredibly diverse. … she’s a brilliant dramatic actress. But … she’s shown that she can kick ass as good as any man. In this film, she gets to do both and she does both in a way that I think will startle audiences. It’s highly dramatic, it’s highly emotional. It’s a thrill a minute. People are going to be very, very surprised by what they see, and by what they see her do. As I have been.”

Noyce also compares Angie with Harrison Ford!

    It’s definitely an awesome interview.

    EVA GREEN: Angelina is fantastic

Eva Green said she admires Angelina Jolie for her “good heart”.

The Bond Girl revealed she’s impressed by the Changeling star’s dedication to good causes, saying: “What Angelina Jolie does is fantastic, she has a great heart and she’s very, very involved and it is important.”

Eva is doing her own bit for charity and has launched Montblanc’s Meisterstuck special edition pen as part of their Signature For Good campaign, which raises money for Unicef’s worldwide education and literacy programmes.

“If you can help, and your image can help to raise money or to make people understand things faster or clearer you should,” the French actress said.

  21. kimmy says:

i can see the comments now!! yehey!!
but i do really hope we can get comment updates just like the last time.. :)

i’m a bit sad about this and a little happy too! sad because we are expecting it to start filming since June 11, and now we will have to wait a little more. that means no pics of Brad shooting too!
happy because Brad can have a long vacation with Angie and the kids! yehey! a family bonding will be great since Angie has filmed SALT for 3 months long.. now all the Jolie-Pitt’s are at home and enjoying their happy private time together. :D

gandang umaga sa lahat! (good morning everyone!)

  22. Lili May says:

Thanks to your tech team Sherry for fixing the problem! I missed reading the comments from the wonderful Pittwatchers!
I’m hope the people involved in the film don’t get too disappointed. Let’s hope it gets made eventually. As for the J-P’s, maybe it is a blessing in disguise for them. They can have a longer vacation, hopefully in Miraval.
Thank you Fa and Neer for the links to those wonderful articles! I love reading all of them!

  23. kimmy says:

i’m wrong.. i can see other comments but my own comment is the one i can’t see.. :( but i love to see everyone else’s comments!

  24. dhc says:

Brad gets 15 million dollars even if the movie is never made. You can take a very nice vacation with the family and donate to your favorite charities with that. It’s mind boggling that this was a last minute decision and that Sony pulled out knowing they still have to pay Brad. Even more interesting is that Pascal was integral in getting Angelina to be in Salt. Thanks for the dark horizons article Fa. I mostly feel sorry for the crew and all the other employees who were probably counting on the money they would make working on this movie. Brad will certainly just move on.

  25. Kati says:

I was disappointed when I read that Moneyball won´t be made but after a while I found something positive about it too. Now Brad, Angie and the kids can have a much deserved family vacation either in New Orleans or France. It´s exactly what they need right now. Angie has been working all spring and deserves some quality time with her loved-ones. I really miss the whole clan but especially the twins. Hopefully Brad and Angie will publish a family photo to celebrate Knox and Viv´s first birthday on July 12 and in that way they would also silence the rumors about their alleged health problems. Knox and Viv are certainly very healthy babies and growing normally. God bless the JPs!
