Countdown to Cannes: One week!

Who else is excited for this time next week? The Cannes Film Festival kicks into gear soon and Inglourious Basterds is set to debut on May 20th as part of the competition. This is excellent news for PittWatch people!
If the movie starts on the 20th, that means there’s a good chance that we’ll see photos of Brad Pitt arriving at Cannes as early as the 19th. Then we know we’ll get two sets of photos on the Wednesday because there’s always a photo call for the press early in the day, followed by the red carpet arrival photos later on.
While there’s nothing official out there yet, we can all figure there’s a really good chance that Angelina Jolie will be on the red carpet with Brad Pitt the night of Inglourious Basterds. Not only do they both always support each other on the red carpet whenever possible (notable and understandable exception – right after Angie gave birth to Knox and Vivienne of course!), it’s quite possible it will be the first time that Brad and Angelina get to see the movie themselves.
I have heard whispers that Angelina got time off from shooting Salt in order to accompany Brad to Cannes, but that it will be a very in-and-out visit due to her schedule, so it will just be the two of them. While I’d love to see the kids too, I’m perfectly happy with just seeing Brad and Angelina on the red carpet thanks.
Time has a nice piece up about the Cannes Film Festival in general, where they mention that Brad is practically a staple of the event:
As for Brad Pitt, he’s been a regular eminence here. He was on-screen in 2006 for Ocean’s Thirteen but stayed in Namibia to be with Angelina Jolie as she gave birth to their daughter Shiloh, was here in 2007 for Babel, and accompanied Jolie last year when she starred in Clint Eastwood’s Changeling. Now he’s the star of Quentin Tarantino’s World War II epic Inglourious Basterds. So, to fanciers of ambitious films and soulful beefcake, Pitt and Depp will be battling for the title of Sexiest 45-Year-Old to Walk Up the Red Carpet.
(If I may make an aside, I see no need to battle it out. As far as I’m concerned, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp can just stand side-by-side and call it a tie while I drool.)
Later in the article they mention Quentin Tarantino and Inglourious Basterds again:
Tarantino, who’s as much a movie fan as a moviemaker, is always welcome here; last year his two-hour conversation with film critic Michel Ciment filled the 900-seat Debussy theater to overflowing. Inglourious Basterds marks his first competition effort since he copped the Palme d’Or, Cannes’ top prize, in 1994 with Pulp Fiction. His war movie, with Pitt leading a squad of Jewish-American soldiers against the Nazis, is the centerpiece selection a week from today.
I am very eager to not only see the red carpet Cannes photos (and see what Angelina wears this year – last year she wore my favorite green dress, as pictured above!), I can’t wait to hear what the critics say about Inglourious Basterds. They showed a brief trailer of it in the theater on Saturday while showing a quick selection of upcoming summer blockbusters, and it seriously looks like a great flick.
There’s no telling what stories and photos will be available over the next few days – maybe more grocery outings, Brad hanging out with the kids, or Salt set photos – but stick close to PittWatch this time next week because I guarantee I’ll be very busy getting photos and videos of Brad Pitt (and Angelina Jolie!) at the Cannes Film Festival up online!

Funny that Time got the years incorrect. It was Babel in 2006 (Shiloh’s birth year) and Oceans in 2007–Angelina wore that knockout yellow gown and Brad was his usual gorgeous self. He was also there is 2005 for Troy. In fact, both have been there since 2005–she for Shark Tale, 2007 for A Mighty Heart and her double play last year. I think they have always stolen the show when they appear togehter.
I really wish that Angie and Brad will appear on the RC together next week in Cannes. In that way they´ll show the damn rags that all those rumors are NOT so true. And if not it will be of Angie´s busy shooting schedule. But hope to see them together happier than ever. God bless the JPs forever!

I read an interview before with Angelina that said she and brad had not seen “Mr & Mrs Smith”. I had thought at the movie premieres, the movie was shown. Is that not correct? I know I saw pictures of them at the Mr & Mrs SMith premieres, at the time they were staying apart and denying that there was anything between them.
Also, any thoughts on Mickey the bodyguard threatening to write a tell all about the jolie-pitts?

angelina and brad were not in cannes in 2005, it was 2004. angelina for sharktale/ shrek 2 and brad for troy.

I agree Jamie. It is funny that Time got it wrong about Babel & Oceans 13. Brad & Angie must have such a memorable impression on Richard Corliss that he didn’t even remember George Clooney, Andy Garcia & the rest of the Oceans 13 gang on the red carpet with them. LOL! Well…personally I thought they did indeed outshine everyone in Cannes.

Sometimes celebs walk the red carpet and do press but don’t actually go in to see the movie. Often there are multiple premieres in different cities. Also Angie said on Nightline she has only seen a few of her movies, I think she watches the dailies when they are filming the movie.Correct me if I’m wrong.
Off topic i read on celebritybabyblog that they haven’t purchased recent photos of the JP kids because the recent pics have been grainy or a child appeared upset ,blanket covering face. Also Jen Garner and Ben A.reps have asked them to stop posting paparrazi pics of their kids and Julia Roberts reps made the same request.CBB is owned by People magazine
Wow…they were both in Cannes in 2004,before they got together!Probably they didn’t knew each other!If only they knew that they were going to be their as a couple in the following years!!!
Now,Sherry I can’t wait for the festival!!!Unfortunately I’m going to be very busy for the next 2 weeks(my exams start this friday),but be sure I’m going to be here this time next week to see all the new pics and news about Brad(and hopefully Angie too)!!!

Can’t wait for the pic’s next week. I love that green dress and I liked the yellow one, also liked the black leather and a bunch of others. Not keen on the dress choices at last award shows, although they looked very nice and comfortable, I personally was looking for a little more vavavoom. I have my figures crossed for next week.
I like Angie’s leather gown at Mr. & Mrs. Premiere, the green & the canary yellow. Everything she wears outshines everybody but these 3 gowns in my opinion are the best.
Lately, she dressed up for comfort, I hope next week, she will wear something really colorful. I really love to see them at the red carpet, they glow & they spark. God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.
Thanks Sherry. I am not posting at jj (that siete has become a nasty and vial place). I have been reading your site each day. I too am on the edge of my seat waiting for Cannes. Brad/Angie will be the biggest draw no doubt. The press is going to go crazy because we have not really seen them together since the Stop and Shop pics (did I get the name right? Anyway they are the ONLY celebs I follow. I am a fan til the end. Cant wait for IB looks exciting and over the top..
Brad usually does a Charlie Rose interview when he is promoting a film. Has anyone heard anything about any interviews he as done that may came out in Aug/Sept.. or sooner.. I need to know.
I hope Angie goes. I love seeing her and Brad together on the RC. Whatever she wears she will be a beauty!!!! It has been so much fun seeing them at Cannes. Can’t believe it is time for Cannes already again.

It’s funny but not, unfortunately, in a hahaha kind of way. This is time magazine and they should get this sort of basic information right. Isn’t someone fact checking or editing or what ever it is that good publications are supposed to do anymore?
lylian- Well, Time Inc. (which owns Time Magazine) also owns PEOPLE magazine and, while PEOPLE is usually accurate in their information, they have gotten a few minor things wrong here in there (for example, a celebrity baby’s age. They also accidentally referred to Zuma Rossdale as Kingston in a photo caption a few months ago).
On occasion, they have gotten some slightly bigger facts wrong, such as announcing the wrong gender in a celeb baby birth announcement (for example, when Laird Hamilton’s youngest daughter Brody Jo was born, they initially claimed she was a boy, and did the opposite when Anthony Kiedis’ son Everly was born..claimed he was a girl. I can’t really blame them, however, as Brody sounds like a boy’s name and Everly like a girl’s name).
However, when they DO make mistakes (apart from extremely minor ones such as saying the wrong age for a celeb kid) they virtually always post corrections. Since it’s rare that PEOPLE makes a mistake, I’m guessing that, when they do, it’s just a case of something slipping past the staff (things can get past even the most eagle-eyed person!).
Anyway…I, too, hope that Angie and Brad walk the RC together. As Kati pointed out, that will show the rags that their crazy lies are just that, lies! Also, if they DON’T walk the RC together, you can bet that the tabs will have a field day (nevermind the fact that, most likely, it will be due to Angie’s filming schedule).
I have to admit I am somewhat dissapointed that the kids apparently won’t be coming to France with them. I was hoping to see the whole family in France. I’m so eager to see a new picture of the twins that it’s not even funny (speaking of which, the little sweeties turned 10 months yesterday!)! I hope we get to see them at least once before they turn one!
Also, I apologize for going off-topic here, but…Does anyone have any idea why people don’t seem to have problem with the fact that we rarely see the twins out with their siblings, despite the fact that everybody got practically up in arms whenver Shi wasn’t seen out with Mad, Pax, and Zee Zee when she was younger?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad people aren’t saying things like “Where are the twins?” However, I’m curious as to why there seems to be such a double-standard between the twins rarely being seen now and Shiloh rarely being seen when she was younger.
Oh, and does anyone know why Angie attended the Shrek 2 premire at Cannes in 2004? Did she do a voice in the movie (Shrek 2 happens to be one of my favorite movies, so it would be really cool to find out that Angie did one of the voices!)? Or was she good friends with someone in the cast or something?

why would 10 month old kids go on quick short trips to the supermarket?
it is simply easier from brad and angelina to get around town quicker with the older kids.
the twins are fine. it’s brad and angelina’s choice whether to bring the twins out any-way, is some-one going to force brad and angie at gun-point to bring the twins out in public? lol!
the twins will be more invovled with trips out when they are about 18 months or so IMO.
Looking forward to next week. I was hoping to see the whole family, but now that I am thinking about it, it would be good for just Brad and Angie to go. This would give them a little bit of quiet time to catch up. I have the feeling that PopPop and Grammie have come to help out right now with both Brad and Angie being busy working. He has to take care of business also. Looking at the schedule of Brad’s up and coming films it looks like he will be filming and Angie will be watching the children.

It is strange that the mags. don’t talks about the twins. I guess because they are the second round of bio kids and shi was first, and every one thought they would only adopt. The novelty wore off, besides they are too busy trying to say they broke up. they would probably talk about the twins more if there were pics to go with it, out of site out of mind.
Kim, I agree with you. If Brad and Angelina were being seen more together (as in if they weren’t both busy right now), the twins might be more of a topic, but as it is they’re so occupied with trying to report tabloid-worthy headlines over how they’re constantly splitting up that they haven’t had time!
taylor- I never said that. In fact, I understand completely why we don’t see the twins. I’m just saying that, when Shi was little, people practically got up in arms whenever she wasn’t seen out with the older kids, and said things like “Where’s Shiloh?” “Why do Angie and Brad treat Shi different than their adopted kids”?, etc.
However, now the twins are rarely seen, and no one says a word. I’m simply wondering what made the h8ters come to their senses this time around!
kim- You’re probably right. I was actually referring more the h8ters among the general public (even on this very blog, people would complain about Shi not being out when she was younger. Of course, thanks to the comments being moderated, they were pretty tame compared to what people were saying on other blogs!), but what you said probably applies to them as well.
I just came up with a new theory as to what could be at least partially the reason why people aren’t up in arms when the twins aren’t seen out and about, even though they were when Shi wasn’t out when she was younger.
Remember how, in January 2007, Angie referred to Shi as a “blob” in her Elle interview. People blew that way out of proportion and acted as though Angie had used a cuss word to refer to her daughter or outright said she h8ted her daughter or something! Of course it was actually the interviewer who suggested the term and Angie just agreed with it, but the h8ters conviently forgot that.
Angie also said in her interview that she felt more for Mad and Z because they are “survivors” and weren’t born priveleged like Shiloh. The h8ters jumped on that, too, claiming that Angie h8tes Shi and favors her adopted kids.
Anyway, I can’t help but wonder if that fueled the “Where’s Shiloh?” complaints. With the twins, Angie has always spoken of them lovingly, so naturlly the h8ters can’t claim that she h8tes them.
I also wonder if part of it could be that, when Shi was little, the amount of times she was seen out could only be compared with the times Mad and Zee were seen out as babies, whereas with the twins, the amount of times they’re seen can be compared with Shi.
What I mean by that is, people can’t really say that the twins not being out means that Angie is favoring her adopted kids, as Shi also wasn’t seen out very much when she was a baby. Whereas with Shi, her only older siblings at the time were adopted, so it was the adopted vs. biological thing going on.
A third thing I wonder about is if people are simply more understanding of the fact that Angie and Brad don’t always take all the kids out now that there are six kids altogether, as opposed to just three and then four (when Pax was adopted).
Anyway, I hope I’m making at least some sense here!
Okay, let us rewind information of Cannes in 2004. Brad was with Jennifer for Troy and Angie was there too for Shark Tales. They already filmed part of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. If you watch the uncut version of MMS dvd, some scenes were filmed in January 2004. Jennifer was already jealous of Brad and Angie’s friendship. I read somewhere from a blog that Angie did not attend most of the gala dinners and stayed in her hotel (may be with Maddox). Remember, her prime residence in 2004 was a suburb of London. After the Cannes festivities, Brad and Jen went to Paris, sort of a romantiic vacation to be close together. There were a couple of pictures taken outside a Bistro. Of course Angie in the same year was also promoting Alexander with Colin. But in May 2004, Brad and Angie already knew each other but did not speak to each other at Cannes for obvious reasons. This is why I am furious with the tabs whenever they label Angie to be the homewrecker when she had given all respect for Jennifer’s feelings.
