Did People magazine snag the rights to the Jolie-Pitt twins photos?
Yesterday, Ann Curry of the Today show pushed the London bureau chief of People magazine to acknowledge whether People paid ten million dollars for rights to the first published photos of Knox and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.
What I love is that he was magnificently evasive in his answers. We still don’t know if People will get the first photos, though I think it’s pretty likely since they seem to have a very good on-going professional relationship with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Here’s the video clip:
I particularly like the way she tried to ask if People had paid a large amount of money for first baby photos in the past and he only answered that of course they buy celebrity photos all the time. Good for him! We’ll know when we know.
They also discussed how the new Jolie-Pitt children are doing and addressed the question of whether there’s concern over the fact that Knox and Vivienne were only about five pounds at birth (which doesn’t seem unusual for twins and is, in fact, pretty good).

I had twins three months ago, boy/girl they were 5lbs 10oz and 4lbs 11oz respectively - they are just fine and came a little early. Anything after 32 weeks is just fine. That Angie had two five lbs babies is great, I’m sure they are just thriving! Congrats to them and I’m sure they are well aware of all the work that accompanies bringing twins into the world - thank goodness they’ll be able to afford help!

Funny little clip. Its amazing how desperate the media and everyone else is for any little tibbit about the family. I believe there is even more hype now then when Shi was born. I hope after the pic’s are published they can have a couple months holiday away from all this. Sit back on that nice piece of property with the family and extended family surrounding them and just enjoy life for awhile.

Watching this guy being interviewed drove home the point how silly the world can get getting all hyped about something as unimportant and normal as two people having a child - because of people like myself who are eagerly waiting to hear any little tidbit about the babies. I am really torn - I just want to give them space and leave them alone and not be part of the masses that want to be fed JP info - and at the same time I am so fascinated and interested that I am really happy for any new piece of info I can get.

One of the differences may be the press is at the birth site for this one. There was no one around in Africa, so less hype. A single birth, healthy mom, so no need for more than an operating room and a doctor. They were home in California before anyone knew they had left Africa. They were very smart.
I think with twins, they knew they needed more medical attention, so they chose France. more privacy than the hospitals in the US. But with this hospital being public comes media madness. I am sure they wish they were back in the quiet hospital in Namibia and in reality, so do I. This media circus has been relentless and over the top crazy. No other couple has had to deal with this nonesense.
To be honest, I don’t really get it. I love them to death, but stories on the news about healthy births are just silly. I am sure they are shaking their heads as well. They will need a military escort to get out of there. Also agree about wanting to have information, but wanting to give them as much privacy as possible. I can live with no information if it gives them peace.
PS. I do hope People gets the pictures, if there are any. OK is too close to being a tabloid and have printed too many false stories about them. I think people did not go after the other celebrity babies because they are saving their money for Brad and Angelina. So, they are being coy. Thanks.

I’m just happy the twins and here and doing well. Hoping Mom and Dad are doing well, also.

If anyone gets pictures I really hope it is People. OK is way too much of a tabloid. It is full of made up stories/lies about Brad and Angelina. At least People does not write fiction and usually has real sources.

Victoria/Terry, I agree with you. So weird that there’s so much hype about them, and Angie and Brad (and their kids) really must feel somewhat weird about this. Many of us JP fans are torn between wanting to see this family and giving them their privacy. But I think most of us would want to give their privacy. But given that the media isn’t about to give it to them now, I also hope the people get it. They did a good job with Shiloh’s first pictures, too.

MaryAnn and isacutie, i want people to get it too. after snagging Shiloh’s photo last 2006, people have been a great source when it comes to the latest news about the JPs.

Congratulations *Jenny* and thanks for sharing that story. A lot of people get carried away with the tabloid lies and don’t actually listen those REALLY in the know.
I also hope People get it, so there’s money for charities. If I was the twins, Pax and Shiloh, I would be proud to know I helped others in need.

Congratulations, Jenny – a santé (to your health) for all of you.
I hope People gets the photo rights, too. It’s legitimate media. I hate OK – it IS a tabloid and it’s trashed Angelina (mostly), Brad & the whole JP family (on rare occasions it’s good to the JPs).
Why the hype? It’s just a woman, a man and newborn twins. Ahhh, but it’s THESE particular twins, woman & man. I’m sure Angie & Brad agree that each & all births and families are as important as the JPs. They’d agree even more that the media attention shining on them would be better used if shined on refugees, Project Make It Right & other initiatives to help New Orleans & Katrina survivors get back on their feet, and help children of military service members in Iraq as well as kids in Springfield. Media attention should be shined on the disgraceful state of health care in our country when an ill woman is in the ER waiting room for 24 hours and dies from lack of care & caring.
The perfect media-hype storm. Take Angie – the whole of her. Take Brad. Each of them attracts super-media attention by themselves. Each of them the sexiest & most beautiful & talented in the universe. Put them together. Spicy, sizzling hot, caliente – sex on a stick. The tabloids have made lots of money on them already, but they smell blood & mega-sales in their invented “dark homewrecker-All American Girl-All American Boy” triangle. The tabloids whip up a frenzy about everything Angelina & Brad - with Angelina being designated “bad girl.” The people who buy/read the tabloids don’t seem to notice or care that the JP stories are recycled & repeated over & over again, often contradicting themselves. It’s because Angie & Brad are the parents that their children - especially their biological children Shiloh, Vivienne Marcheline & Knox Leon – are at the center of an almost mob-like hysteria.
Whereas all their true fans – like us - enjoy & appreciate accurate coverage & photos of their family and their activities, and support them when we can by donating to their causes, watching their movies, posting comments in blogs by posting the truth & exposing the lies, etc.

There’s been lots of talk before & since the twins’ births about celeb baby photos. An article said baby covers used to be only 2-3 times a year (e.g., Princess Diana’s 1st baby), now it’s almost weekly. While I respect those who decide not to go the exclusive baby photos route - like Liz Smith & Rachel Giese, I believe that if anyone’s going to make money on these baby pics, it shouldn’t be the paps/tabloids – it should be the charities.
I like how Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick handled it. They let the media know there’d be a photo-op when they left the hospital; since the paps/photogs got the same non-exclusive photo, they didn’t make money off it. Lainey & Page Six report that Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban wanted $3Million, but the tabs didn’t want to pay that much (especially since Nicole isn’t as popular now). When I heard that Nicole wasn’t going to make Sunday Rose’s photos available, I did think that Nicole’s UN project could have benefited (“Ex.Dir. Sandler emphasized the need to scale up funding for the UNIFEM-managed United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women”), or that Nicole & Keith could make a sizable donation in honor of their daughter. Tom, Katie & Suri posed for Vogue (?) for free; it was rumored they didn’t want Suri’s photos to go for less than Shiloh’s.
I do think it’s tacky if rich celebrities pocket the money for baby & wedding photos. At least Britney & Kevin did it right with their first baby, they donated the fee to Katrina survivors.

I feel sorry that they can’t have any privacy, but that it part of the price of fame. I’m sure People will get the first photos. They are a reliable soure of info and have worked with the JP’s before.I wish all the paparatzi had to deal with the hype for 48 hrs. maybe they they would have some compassion for others(probably not.. they’re only interested in the $$$ they can get for photos of the beautiful.Maybe if all the fans would quit buying the trash mags the paps would have no where to sell their crappy pictures and all the beautifuls could have some peace.

I hate to admit it, but I do want to see the pics. I’m bad I know, but there it is. I do agree with an earlier post that people is holding on to their money for these pics. I think the last baby cover was of Jennifer L. I was not crazy about that photo spread. It was too stylized. Jen was too dressed up and it seemed unnatural some how. Brad and Angie have a right to decide how to introduce their children to the world. If they don’t take the pictures they will be hounded more. Luckily they are in a place that is sucured and safe from the paps. I get angry with the people who say they are attention seekers. They are not. The press follows them everywhere. You never see them at clubs, and premiers or fashion shows. They do not go to any event unless it is related to work or a charitable cause. If they wanted the attention we would see them at these places too. Look at the people who attend these events, these are the ones who want the attention. We don’t see Brad and Angie unless they are promoting something. The other pictures of them are photos of them in private moments. Does not look like attention grabers to me…
About the babies weights. I think 5 lbs is good for twins. Together they were a little more than 10 lbs. Pretty big. Also they were very close in weight. I am glad that it was a boy and girl. I know that if it were two girls, they would be compared to each other all the time, just like Mary Kate and Ashley. By them being opposite sexes, they get to be treated induvidually by the outside world.

I think the h8ters & the curious buy more tabloids than JP fans. Most of the JP covers are hideously biased, and as a fan I wouldn’t buy them & give my $$ to the tabs. (OTOH, as a researcher…;-) )

(I love Liz Smith - she defended the JPs when they were getting beat up by the tabs, and gossip columnists were giving the JPs only 6 months to last.) http://www.nypost.com/seven/07152008/gossip/liz/nurturing_the_world_120011.htm
NURTURING THE WORLD — July 15, 2008
‘SOME PEOPLE seem compelled by unkind fate to parental servitude for life. There is no form of penal servitude worse than this,” said 19th century novelist Samuel Butler.
Mr. Butler never married, never had children, and could never have anticipated the likes of Angelina Jolie. Miss Jolie is the Mia Farrow of the 21st century, gathering up and bearing children willy-nilly, nurturing the world. (Of course, Josephine Baker did it all long before Mia and Angie.)
Jolie finally gave birth to her twins over the weekend. I say “finally” because as many of you know, “Entertainment Tonight” insisted more than a month ago that Jolie had already delivered, spawning media hysteria and confusion when the star appeared in public, obviously still in the gravid state. So it only seems that Jolie has been pregnant forever. “ET” finally fessed-up on July 2.
By then it had become something of a parlor game - when would they concede Jolie had not yet given birth? Would they ever? Eh, they were anxious to give the world happy news. In this time of global trauma, who can blame them?
NOW, EVERYBODY in the universe is thrilled for Angie and Brad. And that includes the employees at Nice’s Lenval Hospital, where Jolie delivered. But, they’ll be happier once the famous star is gone. Oh, no. Not that she was a problem. She’s a doll, personally. But the entire staff of the hospital was exhausted by the intense media interest. Journalists leapt out of bushes, lurked in dark corners, begging for scraps of gossip. This begging came with astronomical financial offers. The good people at Lenval - a 133-bed establishment - were being worn down. Even the extra security didn’t cool the heat. (Hollywood hospitals, such as Cedars-Sinai, leak like a sieve. If you are hospitalized in Tinseltown, your records and even your meals are likely to be up on the Internet by the end of the day.)
However, facilities around the world should stay on high alert, perhaps perform “Angelina Jolie drills.” The beautiful actress has already said she’s not through baby-making.
P.S. And if magazines are crazy enough to pay upwards of $15 or $20 million for photos of Angie’s infants, I say, you go girl! This money is funneled to her various charities. Let the media howl. What have these critics and pundits done for the world’s sick, starving and abused? Yeah, I thought so.

I heart Liz Smith & once her article “NURTURING THE WORLD” gets out of jail - I mean, moderation - you’ll see why:
“P.S. And if magazines are crazy enough to pay upwards of $15 or $20 million for photos of Angie’s infants, I say, you go girl! This money is funneled to her various charities. Let the media howl. What have these critics and pundits done for the world’s sick, starving and abused? Yeah, I thought so.”

I join the company of those who wish only the best for Mom Angie and Dad Brad, as they welcome the two new additions to their fam. I’m sure they are not only beautiful (consider the genes) but will be artistic in their own right when life presents their path. I pray all is well with them and can’t wait to see first pics.
