Fantastic Angelina Jolie interview in Philippine Daily Inquirer
In my previous entry about Angelina Jolie’s interview with Germany’s Vanity Fair, several people left comments mentioning that we should all check out the Philippine Daily Inquirer which is a reputable news source (despite its unfortunate similar name to the Enquirer!).
Reader Barb was kind enough to send me a direct link to the interview. Apparently the reporter, Ruben V. Nepales, is well known for doing as little editing as possible to allow the real “voice” come through. I really enjoyed reading the interview and wanted to share it.
They cut right to the chase and talked about life with twins right off the bat:
Tell us more about the twins.
Knox and Viv are the sweetest little things - to see them together is just something else. They lie down next to each other a lot. They respond to each other - more so now. They’re starting to smile a lot. It’s funny that Knox looks like Brad and Viv looks a bit like me. They’re good babies. We’re very lucky. The trick in having six is, once you pass three or four, it gets so crazy, anyway, that there’s just more chaos - and it’s okay.
So, you’re not done yet?
No.
Ahhh! Not done yet! More Jolie-Pitt babies in the future!
I think one of my favorite parts was when she was talking about the challenges of filming Changeling and whether she could have survived as a woman in the 1920s and she mentioned:
People have called me a liar or bad. Fortunately, I was raised by a mom who loved me so much and made me comfortable with myself. I’m not a liar. I know I’m a decent person. I can go to bed at night knowing that I’m all right no matter what anybody says about me.
Well, I know how many PittWatch readers cheer that statement on. Clearly Marcheline did a great job of raising Angelina with the kind of self-esteem you really need to survive Hollywood.
There’s also a point where she touches on something that has been discussed at times in our comments, about the fact that some day their kids will read and see some of the horrible things that have been said about Angelina and about Brad Pitt as well:
How do you deal with fabrications printed in some publications?
Somebody told me I was depressed. My life is being with my family. My family is so real, close and happy. I wake up, and I want to make sure everybody’s healthy. I don’t care about anything else. You’ve also known me for a long time. It has been years of people saying things about me, so I do tend to ignore it.
Most people know that most things are completely made up. But, we are worried about the kids getting a hold of the Internet and seeing some stories. It’s hard to explain—and it makes no sense to explain! There’s no good reason for it. We’ll see. I’ll tell you how it goes if I do.
I’m sure they’ll figure out the best way to prepare them. Meanwhile, while I’m sure it will be confusing for them, the kids are the ones who live with Brad and Angelina. I think they’ll be able to grasp the fact that there is a big difference between tabloids and the truth.
I strongly recommend that you check out the full article because it’s just wonderful. The whole interview comes out as though you’re sitting at a table with Angelina herself, just chatting over a coffee.
Enjoy!

I just wanted to give all the PittWatch readers a heads’ up - this is a holiday weekend for me. It’s Canadian Thanksgiving. I’ll be having a big family dinner on Sunday so please be patient if your comment goes into moderation. I will do my best to get to it as soon as possible, assuming I’m not in a turkey-stuffing-pumpkin pie coma!
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian readers!

Happy Thanksgiving, Sherry and all your Canadian readers!
Thank you for posting this article. I have read it on the Inquirer (being from the Philippines myself) and loved it. Ruben Napales has done several interviews with Angie and although I think he got into a bit of trouble with one (remember the reporter who asked Angie about her and Jen A.’s covers for a magazine, which are among one of several - can’t remember what the magazine is), he has written very nice articles about her.

By the way, brad pitt fans, if you have time, head over also to Randi’s website (www.bradpittwatch.com) on Monday as she will have a nice contest which I’m sure Brad fans will want to join.

My family always have The Philippine Daily Inquirer everyday. Ruben V. Nepales writes good articles in the said reputable and number one broadsheet in the Philippines about Angelina Jolie. I think he mentioned it before that Angie is his favorite interviewee among the celebrities. He likes her a lot. Mostly, every time he featured her, it’s always in 2 parts, in 2 issues of the newspaper.
isacutie, i heard about a Filipino who asked Angie during the Beowulf presscon re Angie-Jen cover of a certain mag. I think it’s not Ruben Nepales, it’s another Filipino media person.

I feel exactly like Vivian above! This is a wonderful interview. Both Angelina’s openness and details of her family life, AND all the questions I would’ve wanted to ask her are right there!
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! My dear dear brother and sister-in-law and nephew live in Tronno… they are up in Muskoka celebrating this weekend.

“Brad said sometime ago that you will get married when restrictions on who can marry whom are dropped. If Proposition 8 is defeated, wouldn’t that put you on the spot and you would have to get married?
Ask Brad (laughter).”
I love that lol
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone (in canada, anyway) I’m excited:) haha, I have a big Italian family, so there’s gonna be amazing food.

Angie mentioned Shiloh waves at the cameras. I thought - how sweet, just like her mama!
Wouldn’t it be nice for the kids if they chose a home and stayed there for the school year, and then only traveled around during the summer. Like Gwyneth Paltrow or Madonna.

Wonderful interiew! She is open about her personal life but not too open. It was wonderful to read how the twins interact together already at the age of three months. Wait until they´re older. They´ll sure be very close to one another and play together a lot. It´s Brad and Angie´s own private matter if and when they want more children. It´s nobody else´s business. They have every right to have as many children as they want. Hopefully the next time they´ll have another handsome biological son and will adopt another African girl so that Princess Zee will have an African sister with whom she can share her African inheritance.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A magazine cover photo of Angelina Jolie breast-feeding one of her newborn twins may have turned the superstar actress into a role model for new mothers.
The photo, taken by Jolie’s partner Brad Pitt, will adorn the November issue of W magazine. Other family pictures taken by Pitt in the weeks after the birth in July of twins Vivienne Marcheline and Leon Knox will appear inside.
“I think it is fabulous. Seeing a celebrity like Angelina Jolie breast-feed can be a role model to encourage women to make a choice that is wonderful for their baby,” said Andi Silverman, mom of two and author of “Mama Knows Breast.”
“Breasts are used to sell all sorts of products, so to see them used the way nature intended can only be a great thing,” Silverman told Reuters.
……Jolie’s global influence as a style-setter and through her humanitarian travels and support of kids in third world countries, ensured the impact of the photo of her special moments with her baby.
“The response from moms we have seen is that if someone as popular, beautiful and together as Angelina is breast-feeding her children, it inspires other women to do so themselves,” said Dr Shannon Fox, a psychotherapist with the http://www.Momlogic.com website.
Little is seen in the picture of the act of breast-feeding. It shows Jolie smiling, while a tiny hand is just visible at bottom of the frame.
La Leche League International, the world’s oldest breast-feeding support organization, said the photo was particularly welcome as Jolie has twins.
“Mothers of twins report it takes a lot of time, effort and physical energy to breast-feed. I think the picture is beautiful,” said La Leche League International spokeswoman Jane Krouse.

La Leche League International, the world’s oldest breast-feeding support organization, applauds Jolie’s apparent decision to be photographed nursing on the cover of W.
“Breast-feeding in public reveals a whole lot less than what has been revealed on the red carpet. … I think we do need more role models like Angelina Jolie willing to be photographed and say, ‘Hey look, it can be done, it oughta be done,’” La Leche spokeswoman Jane Crouse said.

Has anyone seen the second Ugly Betty episode of season 3, aired on the second of October? Well Wilhemina has a picture of Angelina Jolie on the cover of Mode Magazine, with lots of ice around her. Alexis was reprimanding her for her vision, as Angelina doesn’t show that much beneath all the ice.

No, it wouldn’t be nice if they stayed in one place just to please those who have this idea that somehow being stationary translates into stability. Get it over it already ok?
These kids are being blessed with the opportunity of having the world as their school-room, and even more, they get their parents right there while they experience and take it all in.
It angers me the praise given to them with one hand while a swipe with a smile smack’s them other one about how Brad & Angelina choose to raise “their” children.
Mad, Pax, Zee, Shi, Knox, Viv are Brad & Angelina’s children and not anyone elses, and they choose to not stay put and I pat them on the back for not letting convention rule their decisions and choices about their life as a family.o

Her best interview ever. I love the sweet and personal things she says in this interview about brad and the kids. You can read “love” in every word. She is the best. And I bet Shi is the cutest thing when she waves at the cameras with that curious expression on her cute face :) About the fact they they travel a lot, besides the fact that is their choice how to raise the kids, I think that these children are so fortunate to be able to do that. They have the chance to see the world, to grow up being more adaptable, tolerant, open-minded than many others. Not to mention the knowledge that they will gather.

Happy Thanksgiving Sherry and all Canadian readers. This is such a nice article. I admire this woman more and more every day. Brad and the children are so lucky to have her. Bella Angelina - sweetheart. I will never understand how or why anyone can say or write spiteful things about her. Thank god for her mommy Marcheline, wrapping her in love - and now Brad and the children.
Children have a natural sense of morality; what is deserved, who deserves punishment/praise . . . just read a story with a child and ask them what they think about the justice elements in it - they’ll know instinctively. what is right or wrong.
lets hope and pray that the children never get distressed if they ever do read all the nasty comments - some people are so bitter - I tend to pity them.

Happy Thanksgiving to the Canadian fans and of course you, Sherry!
I love Ruben N’s interviews with her, she always gives him a better insight into their lives. I think he also asks her how she feels about the general and escalating character assassination she has been subjected to.
What I have come to understand about her is that she knows who she is, and very comfortable with the journey she made and the lessons she learned on the way. Like most people she has let those lessons guide her future. Which is a very normal transition.

I don’t know what Phoebe means, but Angie’s comment was an answer to the following question:
How closely did you identify with your role in “The Changeling”, especially since you’ve experienced being the subject of character assasination yourself?
Sherry, I hope your family had a very nice Thankgiving Day!

Angie’s breastfeeding picture receives strong support from experts. Here is the article on US Magazine.
“Thanks to her new W magazine cover, Angelina Jolie will inspire more new mothers to breast-feed, according to officials from various breast-feeding support organizations.
About 70 percent of American mothers breast-feed their newborns, but the rate falls dramatically after six months, Reuters reports.
Dr Shannon Fox, a psychotherapist with Momlogic.com, said, “If someone as popular, beautiful and together as Angelina is breast-feeding her children, it inspires other women to do so themselves.”
The downside? “She is also an international sex symbol,” Dr. Fox told Reuters. “So whether or not she says, ‘This is a beautiful way of nurturing my baby,’ every man who sees that photo will see those breasts as sexual.”
The shot - taken by beau Brad Pitt - shows the actress, 33, smiling, while a tiny hand is just visible at bottom of the frame.
“Mothers of twins report it takes a lot of time, effort and physical energy to breast-feed. I think the picture is beautiful,” La Leche League International spokeswoman Jane Krouse told Reuters.
Added Andi Silverman, author of Mama Knows Breast: “I think it is fabulous. Seeing a celebrity like Angelina Jolie breast-feed can be a role model to encourage women to make a choice that is wonderful for their baby.”
“Breasts are used to sell all sorts of products,” Silverman said, “so to see them used the way nature intended can only be a great thing.”

Really cool interview! So candid and relaxed..as one of you said like talking with someone with a cup of coffee..did answer a lot of our questions..I think that’s one of the reasons we love AJ and BP because they are so down to earth just like they are just one of us - not a mega star. Love them, love them, love them. God bless the Jolie-Pitts! Hmm…I think they are actually secretly married but just not telling anyone. Who needs to know anyway, except for themselves? Can’t imagine having a half dozen kids and not being married ;)
