Getting a look at Brad Pitt’s Tree of Life

by Sherry on October 23rd, 2008

Tree of Life is somehow the most secretive movie I’ve ever heard of. For a long time no one even seemed to really know what the heck it was about other than Brad Pitt has a role in it. The site awardsdaily.com has the first look at a couple of photos from Tree of Life, including one of Brad with what is presumably his character’s family. Check out the photo here!

The basic gist of the story seems to be that it follows a boy named Jack from age eleven up through manhood, set at some point in the 1940s. It deals with Jack’s journey through life as he goes from living a happy and pleasant life to experiencing the pain of seeing sickness, suffering, and death. It doesn’t sound like an action movie, more of a story, although Brad does wear a military uniform so there may be some war scenes at some point.

Below the cut is a personal story from the woman who played the body double of the pregnant wife. I remember reading it when she first posted it to imdb.com and thought it was hilarious because when she went in to shoot the scene she had no idea that it was going to be with Brad Pitt touching her pregnant belly. Can you imagine showing up on set for “some movie” and you find out Brad Pitt is there?!

The body double’s story:

“Saturday she called me to tell me that they cast me in the part! Yay, I thought … assuming that they would have shots of my pregnant belly as the “stand in” for the actress. I have been hearing rumors about who was cast in the movie, but didn’t think they were slated to start shooting until March.

My shot was today - I arrived in Smithville at 9:30 am, filled out some paperwork, and ate a danish. They drove me to the set in a van and the Producer went over the shot with me. I wore my lowest pants so that they wouldn’t have to be removed to get a full belly shot … and he said just holding up my shirt to the bra line was fine - so no wardrobe was needed. He went over what the shot entailed ~ the “actor” would be caressing my stomach, putting his head on my stomach, and possibly kissing it ~ and wanted to know if I would be okay with that. I said “SURE” … whatever … I wasn’t uptight about any of that (plus I think I look pretty good for a giant preggers and have no shame in baring it all). He then said, “um, do you know who the “actor” is? I said no. He said……. “it’s Brad. BRAD PITT.”

“FREAKIN’ BRAD PITT WAS THE FATHER OF MY UNBORN BABY TODAY!!!!! He rubbed my belly, pressed his face to my belly, stared tenderly at my belly, and when Griffin kicked the crap out of him, smiled HUGELY and said “that’s so beautiful”. BRAD PITT THINKS IM BEAUTIFUL. Oh my God, I cannot stop smiling. I’m just on Cloud 9. Can you believe??????????????????????????????????????????? He spent 20 minutes about an inch away from all my sexual organs, lovingly rubbing my unborn child. Talk about a perfect day. ”

“And for your Brad Pitt Fix today: Did I mention that he was in full Military Blues Uniform????? It was supposed to be the 1940’s and he was all decked out in uniform with that Robert Redford haircut, clean shaven (SOFT FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and totally nice.”

I can’t say for sure, since I don’t know her, but I’d say she was just a little bit excited!

I’m looking forward to learning more about this movie in time! Anyone else know anything, read anything interesting about Tree of Life?

This is really hilarious. If I were this lady, I would be on cloud 9, too. Look forward to seeing this movie and hopefully it will be shown here (Burn After Reading was not shown anywhere here so I would have to get it on DVD)

Okay - this makes me want to get pregnant and become a body double just on the off chance that Brad Pitt will be filming a movie where he has an African-American wife and they need me. Sigh. A girl can dream, right?

Oh wow, very funny, over the top, but I would say the same things too if that was me. The funniest part…”he was inches away from my sexual organs”…what a story to follow her baby for the rest of her life!

    I’ve heard of this movie.

It’s directed by Terrence Malick. If anyone is familiar with his work, they can expect it to be “characterized by naturalist cinematography and a meditative directorial and editing style;…full of rich, lingering, repetitive images of natural beauty…extensive use of off-screen narration by his characters, as well as music, to illuminate, heighten and counterpoint the action on screen.”

I copied this from Wikipedia because I couldn’t put into words good enough to give you an idea of his work.

I love his films even though it took a while for “The New World” to grow on me. Well it will be interesting to see how Mr. Pitt performs under his direction.

    Cheers everyone!

WOW! I’d be on Cloud 9 in Seventh Heaven.

If Terence Malick could work in 100% secrecy, he would. His previous films were made that way: I’ve loved all the ones I’ve seen – Thin Red Line, Badlands and Day of Heaven. His style reminds me of being immersed in a spiritual experience, lots of meditating on nature and the nature of man, watching a Terence Malick film is like being transported to another plane of existence. Sometimes his movies remind me of fellow recluse Kubrick’s 2001: Space Odyssey and Assassination of Jesse James etc.

There was a 20 year gap between Days of Heaven and Thin Red Line, and when it was announced he was casting for TRL, A-list actors lined up around the block eager for any part. Malick is one of those directors for whom actors would kill to work with. He also shoots lots and lots of film and shapes his story in the final editing – that’s how TRL’s focus changed from Adrien Brody’s character to Jim Caviezel’s.

UNDER MOD: WOW! I’d be on Cloud 9 in Seventh Heaven. . . + more on Malick.

What I gathered from the “cute” article rom the extra, was how considerate and respectful Brad was being. He didn’t want to make this woman uncomfortable. It is their character more than their beauty, their talent or their lifestyle, that draws me to Brad and Angelina over and over again. Strength of character seems so underrated these days.
