Golden Globe Update

January 7, 2008 by Sherry

As of this moment, it would appear that NBC and the Hollywood Foreign Press have completely canceled the televised Golden Globes and instead will have a scaled down news telecast which I presume will keep us updated as to who the awards go to.

As I said in my previous post about this, I am disappointed that I won’t get to see Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on the red carpet this year - not to mention all the other celebrities, I always really love to see what everyone is wearing! - but I am ecstatic that something major is finally happening that may end up turning this whole strike around. The writers are treated unfairly by the network bigwigs and deserve better. A canceled awards show, one which brings in a great deal of ratings, should get those in charge to sit up and finally take notice! After all, the strike not only affects what we see on TV (and the vast majority of my shows are about to run out of episodes, with the exception of Lost which only starts up at the end of this month), but if it isn’t resolved soon, we may have a shortage of films to watch in 2009 due to a lack of good scripts being written.

I still hope Angelina Jolie wins the Globe for best actress for her role as Mariane Pearl!

Hah! This will show those greedy networks. =]

Only bad thing of this choice is that I don’t get to see Celebs especially Brad and Angie pretty up!

I agree with you both. They need to take this thing seriously, and now that the major stars have also taken a unanimous stand maybe they will.

i agree as well, by cancelling the Globes, it will pressure NBC more. i hope a deal is struck soon!
while on the awards topic, the NY Film Critics Cirlce awards were handed out today. Angie was nom. for A Mighty Heart, but Julie Christie won for Away from here. i was just wondering if anyone has seen Away from Her?

First, let me start by saying I have 20 years in the Entertainment business; with that said, I know a thing or two re: the industry. (not bragging, just stating a background fact) The WGA is arguing over pennies(DVD & online sales). Several independent studios have and are negotiating deals separately w/WGA (United Artist -Tom Cruise) has settled a deal w/WGA for his studio only. What a lot of people don’t know, in 3 years WGA has another opportunity to negotiate for more money. I could understand if we are talking about dollars but literally arguing over pennies. For me, watching and seeing so many people in the business effected by this strike, I personally think it’s a little selfish of the WGA. I understand and I think it’s selfish considering what it has done and how it effects everything. Why not accept 2 pennies vs the 4 pennies you want especially when 3 years from now ask for more again? 25 million a day is being lost. It is everyone outside of the WGA that are hurting. (Actors who count on guest spots to pay rent, gaffers, crew, teamsters, agents, managers, restaurants, rental companies, stores, shopping, make-up crew, wardrobe - ANYTHING and everything surrounding the business.) Studios, agencies, and management companies have CUT employee’s paychecks to survive this time. We are talking about millions of people effected by this NOT just Writers.

Julie Christie will be favored to win for many reasons, her performance was great, her age, the fact that she has been nominated numerous of times and has not won. The reason why Peter O’Toole was so shocked he did not win the Oscar last year is because he thought, hey I’ll get the pitty votes - I totally thought he would too.

I’m watching the vh1 critics choice award at the moment and so far I’ve seen Geroge and DOn Cheadle.

I’m wondering if Brad and Angie will show since Angie is nominated!

    *fingers cross*

BRAD AND ANGIE ARE AT THE CRITICS CHOICE AWARDS!!……. THEY LOOK INSANELY SEXY!!

  10. Passerby says:

    THEY ARE THERE!!!!!

I just saw them unless my eyes are playing tricks.

Brad is all rugged looking and Angie is glowing like always. Both are wearing black. Nothing fancy though. Like casual wear.

    OMG I’m sooooo happy.

Saw them for a sec but you cant miss two gorgeous people holding hands and smiling like them.

Check it out now. They are there!

    SOOOOOOOOO HAPPY/EXCCITED!

I feel bad about this because this movie has not gotten the attention it really deserved - first they had to pull it from wide release, and now when it could get attention for being an award winner, this happens. People will read about the awards, but it isn’t going to be as beneficial as watching an award show… interviews with them… clips from the movie…

Sort of a shame. I wish they would get this worked out.

  12. gena says:

I DON’T KNOW WHY PEOPLE JUST DO NOT GET ALONG. WHATEVER THE STRIKERS DEMANDS MUST BE SO BIG THAT THE T.V. HONCHO;S DOES NOT REPLY. I KNOW EVERY ONE WISHES FOR IT TO END NOW, BUT WHAT ELSE IS NEW. THERE IS ALWAYS TROUBLE IN THE WORLD. ALL OF US THE BAMPZS FAMILY FANS JUST HAPPY TO SEE THEM ALL TOGETHER IN PICTURES AND IN VIDEO;S. THAT”S ALL THAT MATTERS.

  13. Passerby says:

    GAWD!

Brad is so hawt! I usually like clean shaven guys but Brad pulls off the beard nicely! Plus no hat!!! =] They seem to be enjoying themselves at the critics award show. Words cannot describe how exicted.

They host just gave Brad and Angie a special recognition by pointing them out iin the crowd.

    I am loving this!

  14. Steph says:

    SPOILER (for Critic’s Choice)

The Best Actress category for the Critic’s Choice Awards was impressive. Of course, I rooted for Angie, but I don’t mind if any one of the other actresses had won, too. And well, Julie Christie is a major icon :) so, I’m happy for her, and I heard Away From Her was an outstanding movie.

Anyway, here’s a link to a couple of backstage pics of Brad and Angie at the Crit’s Choice: http://jjb.yuku.com/topic/73336/t/BRAD-ANGELINA-MEGA-POST.html?page=2260

If the link is clicked, the pics may not be found immediately, but those new pics should be in the latter pages :) Credit goes to Marpessa1
