Maddox is back to school

by Sherry on September 6th, 2007

Angelina Jolie was photographed taking Maddox to school. Since Brad Pitt will be filming Burn After Reading shortly, Maddox is attending Lycee Francais de New York in the Upper East Side of NYC.

Angelina Jolie and Maddox Jolie-Pitt at school

I love his little uniform!

The Toronto Film Festival is gearing up so I’m not sure if this means that Angelina won’t be attending with Brad while he promotes The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. On the other hand, Toronto is only a short flight from New York, so it’s entirely possible that she will indeed be able to fly out to attend. I’ll keep you posted!

I think her legs really look skinny and unhealty, but she is rounding out at the top which might mean a baby. Remind me again why they are in NY long enough to have him in school? Is Brad working there?

I think she looks tired at the park, but very beautiful. I hope she’s pregnant.

I love Maddox too. But he is in a school with an old fashioned uniform!!! That is so unlike Jolie-Pitts, don’t you think? Wasn’t the New Orleans French school non-uniform?

Mad is in uniform. He is learning French too. I have no idea what kind of school is that I bet very private & expensive. I hope, Ange attend the Toronto Film Festival, they can fly in & out to Toronto the same day. NY is very close to Toronto.
School uniform is part of discipline, I attended schools in uniforms all my life. Every Friday is dress down day for us.

On Page Six there was a story that Brad and Angie took Maddox to school on his first day. Has someone seen the pictures? Could someone post the link or maybe Sherry you can help?

Carrie, give her a break she has travelled constantly for the last week; NY to Iraq to NY, then to Italy to France and back again NY. Am sure even Angie is not immune to jetlag!

Her legs are fine, she looks the same as in her pics for Venice 2004. Always been very slim.

AJ is natural really thin just like my friend ivy they are just so darn skinny!
I heard it’s a $18,000-a-year private school where lessons are taught in French. That what Justjared said.

The Jolie-Pitt’s learning French, I read that Brad & Ange are also learning how to speak French that means they are planning to live somewhere.

Lycee de francais is a private school where french is the primary language. Lots of diplomats send their kids there. There’s also on in L.A. (jodie foster went ther) so they may be sending him there (aside from having him learn French) but for some consistency for when they return to L.A.

Angie’s mom has Indian blood as well, rite? That’s what i read at imdb.
i thought too that angie is too skinny. but if you see her old pics, she was already skinny when she only had maddox. she’s a natural skinny woman. some are born like that.

Thank you Sherry. You always post the nicest photos. I agree that Angie is naturally skinny. The only time she did not look that skinny was in the Lara Croft movies. Her outfits made her looked healthy or fit in the action scenes. Anyway, I think they just love France since that is where they went on vacation too. Also, skinny or not, Brad loves Angie the way she is.

Maddox has gone to a Lycee Francais school wherever the Jolie-Pitt familly is located: L.A., New Orleans, Prague, and now Manhattan. Angie & Brad planned Mad’s schooling brilliantly. Like the Montessori schools, Lycee Francais is all over the world, but they follow the same system and curriculum. It’s easy for Mad to plug into it even when they move around to different cities, so he has continuity and stability. So I don’t think this is necessarily a sign that the family will settle in NYC. Brad has said a number of times that they consider N.O. their home base, and that they can live a more regular life there.

$18,000/year is pricey for me and out of reach for most folks, but I’d expected it to be at least twice that much. Lycee Francais is not that exclusive or expensive. I know several professional couples who send their kids there. There’s even a private Catholic high school here which costs the same. I bet CEOs’ and politicians’ kids go to much more extravagantly expensive and exclusive schools.

hmmm, i’m thinking of the teachers who might be teaching Maddox. They will be equally stress too!

Maddox looks adorable in his uniform. All schools here in Australia have uniforms, public and private, so it’s not unusual for me. But, it seems to be an unusual thing in America. He looks very smart!

Lou, here are the pics of Maddox’s first day back, enjoy! ;)

If you have money why not give your kids the best school you can afford. At least Brad & Ange gives their kids the best education they can get. Hooray to the Jolie-Pitt’s.

  • gbfan

They could have also chosen the French school because both Cambodia and Vietnam were French colonies and French is the second language of these countries.

oh, and abut the uniforms, discipline is what surprised me. because it seems AJ is all about freedom and uniqueness as opposed to following the crowd and being mainstream. But after reading how these schools are the same world over I see a good strategy in reconciling their jet setting life style with children’s comfort and education.

Uniforms - In the U.S., Catholic schools, military academies & exclusive prep schools have always had uniforms; once in a while they might have a non-uniform day, kind of like business casual Fridays. As for U.S. public schools (opposite meaning of England), civilian clothes were worn.

In the 1960s & 1970s, individual freedom called for liberation from uniforms and even dress codes at public schools. Uniforms were considered constricting and unimaginative conformity. In the past decade or more, uniforms have made a comeback. Parents like it so they save money on wardrobes without kids overspending to be in fashion with their peers. Uniforms are a class-flattener - it’s not so clear whose family has money and who doesn’t. Finally, kids’ jewelry, bling, $200+ athletic shoes, designer handbags etc. won’t be available for robbery & assault in school.

gbfan, good point about French Indochina. I hadn’t thought of it. My high school Spanish teacher said we’d be set for life if we spoke English, Spanish & French. Between the British/French/Spanish, they colonized most of the world, so we could speak the language of most people when we traveled. French is also the language of diplomacy - official UN documents are written in French.

When I saw Z eating Ms. Vicky’s chips in her stroller in New Orleans, I was surprised Angie let her eat that. And I was surprised they let the kids eat fast food. Angie had said she & Brad ate at a lot of fast food places to avoid the papparazzi. Angie being Angie, I thought she’d be really strict about the kids’ nutrition. Who knew?

  • BlessBrangelina
    Sep 7, 2007 at 2:25 pm

    Ligaya,
why would you think she was strict?

And i don’t remember her saying they eat fastfood to avoid the paps, just that they eat fastfood when they are on a road trip together. Preferably Taco Bell!

  • whichligaya
    Sep 7, 2007 at 6:09 pm

I mean strict as in always doing the right thing, sticking to her principles, and which I admire. No big thing - I don’t think Angelina/Brad will feed the kids junk food 24/7 and follow the negative example of too many parents (what’s that show where a nutritionist shows them a picture of their kids as adults with lots of health problems?). Just that Angelina is so conscientious about everything I assumed junk food wouldn’t be part of their diet. Being morbidly obese myself and being aware of the epidemic of child obesity & diabetes, I’m attuned to nutrition issues.

BlessBrangelina, I answered your Q about why I used the word strict but my answer is waiting to be moderated. Who knows when it’ll show up. I don’t know what the moderation guidelines are

  • gbfan
    Sep 7, 2007 at 8:29 pm

Ligaya, I think the reason for moderation could be that you used a word begining with “O” to describe weight issues. Once I used a word begining with S and has x in it to describe Brad and it was put in moderation wait list. When I submitted the same idea using the word “hot,” it was posted right away.

She appears pregnant. Didn’t Brad let that hint slip in Venice? I think Mad looks like he’s ready to join his parents at the Toronto Film Festival. Besides, if he’s wearing a uniform, where’s the jacket? I would like to see the photos of Mad’s first day with the Jolie-Pitts too.

I would love to see some pics of Angelina without those kids strapped to her at all times. I get the mom thing. It is like, ok we got it. What about showing a beautiful and strong intelligent woman solo for a change. Thx. Love the website.
