Make It Right unveils floating house in New Orleans
October 7, 2009 by Sherry
Brad Pitt must be so proud of the newest building to be unveiled in New Orleans through Make It Right. The new house actually floats in case of flooding. It’s incredible!
The house seems to turn into a raft, breaking free from electrical lines and all the pipes for plumbing – I have no idea how that even works, but it’s pretty amazing, well planned, and much-needed for safety reasons of course. However, not only does the house float, it’s also tethered to posts. This means that this particular house will float up to 12 feet off the ground but it won’t drift away (that’s all you’d need, right? To have your house float down the river?) in the flood waters.
Considering what happened to New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, this is an incredibly innovative bonus to what is typical of Make It Right homes, in that it’s built to be as green as possible in its materials. It’s also, as you would expect, built with the usual MIR sustainable design in order to help keep utility costs as low as they can be.
Check out the house and the diagrams over at Ecorazzi, a wonderful site that I highly recommend as it attempts to “catch” celebrities in the act of being environmentally-conscious.

Very interesting concept, can’t wait to see what’s next.
This is sooo amazing! How smart. The house is very cool looking too. Sherry, youre right. Brad must be so proud!
I am not into facial hair on a man. I think Brad’s makes him look old beyond his years. But, to each his own. Or her own, as in Angie’s case. Either way, I love reading about the family as a whole now, rather than more about one or the other. Angie and the girls looked fabulous out shopping. I liked the pix of Brad and Maddox out and about in New York. And Angie and Brad doing their heartfelt thing in Syria. I think it is great that they do so much for so many. God bless you both. Keep the news coming pittwatch.com. The fans love it.
Wow, this is sooo cool. Way to go Brad
Unbelievable! This is so awesome and out there but incredibly innovative. I checked the website with the info on it, very interesting. Oh, I’m sure there will be those who will have negative things to say about the need for such a design, who cares. You don’t see other celebs out there helping and putting their money where there mouth is! I say, good job Brad for having the initiative to at least try where many would not.
Deborah- i agree with you that some people wont think that homes like this are totally necessary. But even if the house is never used the way its designed to be, can you imagine the sense of security the people living in them will feel? Make it right is doing so much for the people of new orleans. They must be so grateful for all of its work. And for brad pitt.
What a nice & smart move. Brad you are awesome, you & Angie are the best. God bless the Jolie-Pitt family.
You´re soooo right, Sherry! Brad should be really proud of it what MIR has accomplished in such a short time. Those families that already have moved into those houses this project has built sure are eternally grateful to this project and especially to Brad. Those houses look cool. Angie sure is very proud of her man. He has done so much to help the people of New Orleans! God bless the Jolie-Pitt family!
Beard or no beard Brad looks so content and fullfilled…. what a great space to be in, I am so thrilled for him.
There were numerous designs, and the owners get to pick the design they like or can afford. So someone obviously liked this design if it got built. congratulations to the Architect and the owner for thinking out side the box. And good on Brad for setting up and providing a place for architecture and design to expand its self.
Fay – I agree with you. Beard or no beard Brad really looks happy and content. And why shouldn´t he look that way. He has everything a man can hope for:a beautiful partner and six adorable, healthy children! If Brad ever gets bored in acting he should really consider a career as an architect. He would design great houses! Bet Angie and the kids are extremely proud of him!
I think Brad would follow the path he has already set upon and design large building. Like the Hotel in Dubai that he helped design and the little bit of work he does with Frank Gehry (an notable architect). So in a way he already has a career in architecture. He has it all.
congrats to Brad!He is doing a wonderful job in NO!I’m sure all his family is very proud for him! Thanks Sherry!
OFF TOPIC: Sherry, You’ve got to link to Just Jared to see the most adorable picture of Angelina holding Vivienne. She looks just like Angelina and is wearing the most adorable little earrings. Brad too is photographed holding a twin. Check it out. It’s been so long since we’ve seen the twins, it is quite a treat.
Sorry, here is the link for those pictures:

Okay – Never mind. I don’t know how I missed your earlier post! Sorry, I should have known you’d be all over this.
I just think that BP and AJ bring out the very best in each other. God bless the JP’s.
A new pic of Vivienne!

I think Angie &Brad visited SOS Children’s Village which was funded by Queen Noor. Angie first visited there in 2003 and since then she has been supporting that village. SOS has other charity organizations globally and Angie and UNHCR are in cooperation with them.
2 years ago Jolie-Pitt Foundation donated money for Sudanese refugee children in Chad.
It is so wonderful to see all the good that just these two people do for so many. I am proud to be their fan. The concept of this house is unbelievable. Keep up the good work Brad and Angie.
It always amazes me, the bizarre contradiction between the tabloid ‘reality’ compared to actual reality of Brad and Angie’s life. One is a cartoon and the other is art. Sometimes it is frustrating knowing so many prefer the cartoon…
Dana – thanks for that new pic of Vivienne! Although it´s take from a distance – which I appreciate a lot – it shows how much Viv reminds her big sis Shi at that age. That same curious/scared look in her little face. And sunny – thanks for that link to JJB. Those pics of Brad and Angie are just beautiful! They show how happy those two are. The more I watch Angie in these pics the more I see the resemblance between her and her late mum. Angie is getting more and more beautiful the older she gets. And Brad looks absolutely yummy in these pics. Those two complete each other. Can´t wait to see more news pics of Knox and Viv. God bless the JPs!
Dana – did you post that beautiful pic of Angie and Shi to JJB? The one that you commented how little Shi looks like Angie at the age of three? Could you please post that pic to Pittwatch. It really showed that Shi truly looks more like her dad than her mum. She has these same facial expressions and features as her dad. But who knows which one of her parents she´s gonna look more like when she grows up. Maybe she will be all Angie or maybe all Brad or an interesting mix of both. No matter what she´s gonna look like. The main thing is that she (and her siblings) stays healthy and will do what she loves the most. Maybe she´ll be an actor like her parents or model or something like that. And I also hope that she will carry on her parents´ humanitarian work in one way or the other.
Proud to be a Brad Pitt fan. Thanks Sherry for this thread.
