More Wanted than you can shake a stick at
Okay, all the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie fans are basically waiting around for two things. One, the birth of the Jolie-Pitt twins. Two, the opening of Wanted in theaters.
I can’t help you with the twins. They’re in there and not coming out until it’s time. And I can’t get the movie to open any faster. However, I can feed your anticipation!
Check out this video player with five preview trailers. There was one in there I hadn’t seen yet. I can’t wait to see this movie, it will be amazing on a big screen with surround sound even if our theaters cost a fortune.
(Randi and I had tossed around the idea of meeting up halfway since we’re not that far away from each other, but my husband, who is a musician, has to play that weekend so it’s not looking good for me to go anywhere that far away, alas.)
This review from Variety is pretty positive! I particularly liked when they said:
Like it or not, “Wanted” pretty much slams you to the back of your chair from the outset and scarcely lets up for the duration.
The Hollywood Reporter seemed to like it too:
That would include engagingly offbeat source material in the form of Mark Millar and J.G. Jones’ comic book series, a decent adaptation by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (last year’s “3:10 to Yuma” remake) and Chris Morgan (”Cellular”), a terrific cast and jaw-dropping stunt work.
Finally, USA Today has a great interview up with Angelina Jolie, talking about the movie.
Her real-life bad girl might be done, but she’s not about to retire her on-screen. Consider this scene from the assassin thriller Wanted, opening June 27:
Jolie is sprawled across the sleek hood of a cherry-red Dodge Viper, clad in a silver cocktail dress and steering the wheel through a shattered windshield with one high-heeled shoe, while the other is pressed against the neck of the young man she’s rescuing (Atonement’s James McAvoy). As they race through a Chicago tunnel, she fires guns at a chasing assailant.
You don’t have to be Freud to see the erotic overtones.
“All I was thinking was, ‘God this is fun! Really fun,’ ” Jolie says, laughing.

LA festival opens with action film
The Los Angeles Film Festival has opened with the glitzy premiere of Angelina Jolie’s new movie Wanted.
The film’s stars stepped out on the red carpet for the special screening - minus the mum-to-be, who is due to give birth to twins.
Jolie might have been absent, but that did not stop hundreds of screaming fans from turning out to catch a glimpse of her co-star James McAvoy.
The actor spent so much time signing autographs that he rushed in late to see the movie, shouting that people should see the flick because “it’s fun”.
Terence Stamp told reporters the best part of making the film had been “getting to kiss Angelina Jolie every morning before she went into make up”.
The actor had nothing but praise for his stunning co-star, saying: “She’s wonderful, she’s a magnificent looking creature but she’s a wonderful actress and she’s really co-ordinated which is really rare in anybody, let alone an actress, to be able to handle action like it’s no problem, so I was very happy to be part of the cannon of work that was Angelina Jolie.”
And as for rumours that the movie could be made into a sequel, Stamp teased: “Hopefully, God willing as they say in the desert.”

Angelina Jolie Adored by Cast in “Wanted”
20-Jun-2008 by Marie J. Pellegrino
Angelina Jolie’s skill at acting, creating, and butt-kicking inspires cast.
James McAvoy, Common, and Thomas Kretschmann, all cast in Wanted, which opens June 27, have nothing but good words to say about the Hollywood star and sex symbol, according to Fox News. Common praised Jolie’s ability to say what she wants and be creative on set without worrying about what people want to hear. Kretschmann finds Jolie to be inspiring and an expert to learn from.
James McAvoy, who has worked with many gorgeous stars before, said that he found nothing to be more fun in making Wanted than getting beat up by Jolie; he even liked it better than the kissing scenes. As for Jolie’s performance as Fox in the movie, Fox News says it is her sexiest screen role to date.

I just found out that the movie will open on June 27 here in the Philippines, so I can see it like most of the other JP fans in other parts of the world. I am really looking forward to this movie, the trailers are just so cool. That was a nice USAToday interview too.

Costars Find Angelina Jolie ‘Very Chilled-Out’
By Scott Huver
Originally posted Friday June 20, 2008 03:35 PM EDT
Angelina Jolie couldn’t make it to the L.A. premiere of her new action flick Wanted Thursday night, as she remains in France, but her costars had plenty to say about the mother-to-be.
Joile’s latest leading man James McAvoy told PEOPLE he was most surprised to discover “her normality.”
“She’s just a very chilled-out person, and a good, fun person. And that shouldn’t be surprising, because movie stars are normal people, but even actors get taken in by the hype,” McAvoy said.
Costar Terrence Stamp was also impressed with the tranquility he saw in her on Wanted.
“I just think that in this last movie, she just seemed very happy,” Stamp said. “I think it must be a wonderful moment in her life. And it’s just something you don’t fake. Either you’re happy and that’s the vibe you’re giving out, or not, and so I felt it was a great, great moment for her, and I hope it lasts.”
She is so “sharp,” added actor Thomas Kretschmann.
“She knows what she’s going for, and she’s also very instinctive – there are smart people and there are instinctive people, and it’s very rare that it meets in the middle, and she’s one of them,” the German actor said.
Kretschman was stumped as to how Jolie balances the demands of her large family, her film career and her humanitarian efforts. “She’s very busy, I guess!” he laughed. “She likes it – she’s a very passionate human being, and I think she just loves life.”
“She’s herself, all the time,” agreed Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov. “She never lies, and it’s her nature, and I love her because of that.”
Somehow, I don’t think all these people are faking it about what they think of her.

Thanks again. This is going to be awesome, but not sure if it will appeal to everyone. It’s also going to be R rated.

My husband loves action movies, and I love Angelina Jolie so this is one movie we will go and see. Lots of good things happening to the Jolie-Pitt’s.

Seems like something and older teen/early 20’s male might take a liking too. A little too far fetched for me.

Can’t wait for 6/27 to experience this movie! The cinematic gods knew what they were doing (and what a blockbuster they’ll have) when they delayed the opening until the summer season. I can only imagine what it would’ve been like had Angie attended the premieres!! Her costars’ comments affirm what all we fans already know–her intelligence, warmth and charisma.
Off topic…KFPanda was such a fun movie–loved it! But…I totally forgot to stay and watch til after the credits as everyone in the audience had left. Didn’t someone mention there’s a surprise at the very end?

Hi, Susie. There’s a brief sweet scene at the very end of KFP that’s really part of the whole story and which reinforces its message. I won’t reveal it here because I don’t want to spoil it for you and others who haven’t seen it yet. You could wait for the dvd, or see it again ;-) .
The credits are long but I amused myself by looking at the background art - it serves as a bridge from “the end” to the surprise. For example, Po teaches the kids kung fu & the secret of the Dragon Scroll, and adds his own action figure to his collection.

Wanted isn’t one of those movies for everyone - like KFP. Wanted is for action fans who like stylized visuals, adrenaline rush, violence, fast cars, thrills & guns (e.g., Matrix) - women action fans, males 18 & over + their girlfriends (males seem to love action - maybe it’s the testosterone & vroom vroom factors), teen boys who get an adult to buy their ticket or who buy tix for a different movie & then sneak into Wanted. Fans of super-rollercoaster rides, superhero, James Bond & horror movies would probably like Wanted, too.
Then there are the fans. Director Timur has his own following, and so do James McAvoy, Common & Terence Stamp. And the Angelina fans: those who love the whole Angelina like Pittwatchers, guys & girls who wish Angelina was their honey, admirers of kick*** Wild Angelina – independent, fierce, dark, plays with knives.
Wanted definitely isn’t realistic, like Changeling/A Mighty Heart/King of Scotland, isn’t a rom-com like Sex & the City or a kid flick.
