Movie Buzz: Angelina Jolie as Catwoman?
Oh, be still my heart. Today my travels around the Internet have brought about a new Angelina Jolie movie rumor, although it’s still unconfirmed and nothing has been said about when this movie role would happen. Allegedly, there’s some talk about having Angelina Jolie play Catwoman in some future Batman film.
I can’t tell you how insanely happy that would make me. I’ve seen all the Batman movies except the new one (it’s on my list of course), but as much as I love Batman, I love Catwoman more. She’s long been my favorite superhero/villain character. I loved Michelle Pfeiffer in the role, she really brought out the sex appeal of the character. I haven’t seen the movie with Halle Berry though I heard several people say she did it well. My problem with both Michelle and Halle is that I don’t really see them as action stars (although Halle was killer in the X-Men movie).
On the other hand, Angelina is sex appeal personified and on top of that she’s an established action star. I really think she could play the heck out of Catwoman.
According to this site, Julie Newmar, who was the original Catwoman (and pictured above) said, “Angelina would own the part. My industry friends tell me she has already made enquiries about the role.”
Like I said, nothing has been confirmed yet, and since the latest Batman is just in theaters now, it wouldn’t be for awhile I guess. She has a lot on her plate right now with her kids and any possible obligations for film promotion (premieres) coming up with the release of Changeling. Also, according to IMDB (which is not always reliable, so take it with a grain of salt), she’s set to play a part in a movie in 2009.
But I would love it so much if it was true and I could eventually see Angelina Jolie playing Catwoman. She would be so perfect for the role.

Off topic, but I thought people would be interested in this….
Angelina’s movie “The Changeling” is expected to play at the American Film Festival in Deauville, France. The festival is from September 5 to September 14.
Also Brad’s movie “Burn After Reading” will open the Venice Film Festival on August 27 and it will be at the Toronto International Film Festival sometime between September 4 and September 13.
Hopefully they both will go to these premiers so we can see new pictures!

angelina as catwoman. why not. she has those cat-like eyes. i will say that if michelle pfeiffer were younger, i’d prefer that she continues with the role. she was a superb catwoman.

I thought Michelle Pfeiffer was awesome as Catwoman and she was waaaaay better than Halle Berry. I thought Halle was not good and overacted something aweful as Catwoman. Angie personifies the Catwoman and I think she would kill that role!

I just read you comment policy and I say good for you. Why would anyone be on the site anyway unless they really are fascinated with the Jolie-Pitts. So, I am always curious when someone gets on and is so negative. If you don’t like them, why are you following a site dedicated to them and people who do like them.
I think they are closet Jolie-Pitt fans and just don’t want to admit it.

Angelina as Catwoman is the CAT’S PAJAMAS!!! ;-) What a DREAM that would be.
Eartha Kitt so far is my #1. Julie Newmar and
Michelle Pfeiffer tie for #2. Then Halle – she won Razzie Award and had the spunk to show up and claim it. Angelina would bring a whole new dimension to it – like Heath Ledger with the Joker. Darker, more dangerous, stronger sexuality.
But…haven’t seen anything in the trades about it. Monday, 7/21, is the first time I heard of someone brainstorming about Angelina as Catwoman on a fanboy blog – lots of bloggers disagreed. http://www.inentertainment.co.uk/20080721/angelina-jolie-as-catwoman-could-top-the-dark-knight/ Since then, other reports have made it out to be a done deal..
I don’t know how Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale would feel about Angelina as Catwoman. There might not even be a Catwoman in this Batman’s future. The 2 men are pretty intense and focused. They might not want to deal with the tabloid stuff and paparazzi chaos that follows her everywhere. But if they *do* have a Catwoman, I’d so love it to be Angelina.

oh yes, I forgot to comment on Catwoman. I, too, liked Julie Newmar as catwoman, but I agree that Angelina would nail it. I just saw Wanted and although I don’t usually like those bloody bang bang movies. I really liked this one.
People in the theater were laughing out loud and cheering and also really seemed to enjoy it.

i think it would be unfair for michelle pfeiffer or halle berry if angie will play catwoman. obviously, angie is way better! LOL:)
if angie needs to do another action movie, i prefer lara croft 3 coz i love adventure & i love her in a british accent.:)

I think she would make a fabulous catwoman! My husband, who is a huge DC fan said it would be a terrible mistake because she’s too big of a star (I guess he thinks it would distract, or something) but I disagree. I don’t think anyone out there would be better. Michael Caine says there isn’t going to be a third movie… but again, my husband says “someone will make another. It might not be Nolan, but it was too profitable for them not to continue.” I guess none of the regulars (Bale, Caine or Freeman) are signed.

heh, halle didn’t even register in my mind. totally went over my head that she once played catwoman.
angie does resemble a lot of the female drawings in the batman cartoons that they showed in the 1990s.

i believe what started this “rumor” was an open letter written to director Chris Nolan from one of the critics saying that it would be a great idea to have Angelina as CatWoman. I don’t have the link but it maybe the critic from Los Angeles Times. Rotten Tomatoes may have the article archived. Before this was mentioned, I already started to believe that Angelina would be perfect for the role. How fantastic would it be to have her in the sequel…..

Besides Catwoman, I’d love for Angelina to play the lead Irena in Cat People (the original black and white 1942 version). It’s one of my all-time favorites - stylistic, full of psychosexual tension, and a heartbreaking story. (Though I wouldn’t mind if the remake had a happier ending.)

Variety says Universal signed for “Inglorious Bastards”.
I wonder if Brad and Leo will take it.

Just for your FYI, Halle got the ? pudding award for worst film for Catwoman that year. It did not get good reviews and very low box office returns. I think I would prefer another Lara Croft movie too.

It’s again likely all rumours, even the assertion that Angie was inquiring about the role. I do think Angie would be a great Catwoman, although I think she’ll need to fill in a bit to take this part. She’s a good actress and can handle this kind of role, besides, it sounds like a fun role.

I’m warming up to the idea despite the apparent hostility the idea first got (probably a defensive reaction on my part) from the many haters who seemed to be the first ones to jump on the story. I just hope if it does happen her costume isn’t latex. The ONLY time I thought latex looked sexy (and I include Mr. and Mrs. Smith) was when Michelle wore that very excellent design.

IMHO I think that there are far better roles awaiting our sweet AJ. I do hope she and BP produce and direct more. At this stage of their lives and with all the kids…my bet is that they only take roles that expand them professionally, and Catwoman does not.

hmmmm well I certainly think Angelina could play this part very well and I think do the part well, like Heath Ledger did the Joker. The role of Catwoman would have to be played very dark, not campy. I’m not sure where they want to take the next movie, if there is one. I do agree, I would love to see Angie do TR3.

I actually agree with posters who say that Angelina’s candour doesn’t have to anything to do with the intrusion into their private lives now. After all, the fact that Gwyneth and Chris don’t show up anywhere together doesn’t stop the speculation on their marriage. The fact that some celebs invite people into their homes (Ever see Hello??) doesn’t stop readers like me from skipping past those articles coz I’m bored!!!

I was on another thread and some people were thinking that they would choose Megan Fox. I know that some think she is the next jolie, but to me she has a long way to go. Anyway, FX is showing M&MS again. The movie must be really popular it is shown a lot. Well after watching it again for the 50th time I can’t see anyone else as Catwoman. I hope Angie does not loose too much weight. I don’t want to hear or read the stories that will follow.

The absolute best Catwoman ever, ever, ever was Eartha Kitt. She had the perfect voice for the role, for she did not have to work hard at it–her “cat” voice was not forced. Also, she was terribly sexy in the role [on the television show].
Orson Welles said of Eartha Kitt that she was the most exciting woman that he had ever met.

Hey …. If this will be true, then it would be great. I like Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman but I also agree that Angie will be great and definitely kill the role and claim it as hers if anyone dares to do it with her as Catwoman. Another Lara Croft is also what I’m waiting and waiting for. I’m a big fan of Angie as in action movie. LOVE her in Action than other roles, though she’s great in all kinds of role. Hope this Catwoman movie will be real soon plus new Lara Croft.

I kind of remember that Halle’s version is a Catwoman movie….Catwoman lead the movie, not a Batman movie so it’s not necessary that the one Angie has to be in a Batman version. Agree??? She can make it big by herself as Catwoman, right guys??

I think she would be great too but IMO there is no truth to this rumor. How would Julie Newmar know anything? Script is at least a year off, then there’s everything else to consider.
Fun facts: Julie Newmar & Halle Berry are both Leos. Catwomen indeed.

I just couldn’t stay out of a discussion about Catwoman, especially when no one was singing the praises of the very talented Eartha Kitt’s portrayal of the character. To me, Kitt, set the bar that all other actresses who play the role must reach. So far, none have. It is not enough to speak in a sexy whisper, as so many have—because they are unable to perfect the puuuuurr in their voice—and have a slim body. Kitt expressed the physicality of the feline perfectly; she was the embodiement of sexiness. Angelina, if she should play the role, has a lot of work to do to even come close to Kitt.
