New rumors – Will Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie adopt in India?
March 30, 2009 by Sherry

All of my news alerts are currently flooded with rumors that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie plan to adopt another child “soon” – this time from India. There doesn’t seem to be any confirmed sources, so we’re still dealing with “a source said” gossip, but it’s not entirely unbelievable.
The alleged story is that Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, one of the ten-year-old child stars of Slumdog Millionaire asked Angelina, after meeting her at the Oscars, why she hasn’t adopted from his home country yet. Supposedly, Angie said they would be soon.
Yet another unnamed “source” claims that Brad and Angelina visited the Priya Darshini Orphanage when they were in India in 2006, but weren’t able to complete all the paperwork at that time.
Right now, it’s all just talk, but you know, this is one rumor that actually wouldn’t surprise me. We know they still want to expand their family, and we know they still want to adopt. We’ve also heard them speak favorably of India on several occasions – one recent time that sticks out in my mind is when reporters asked Brad what his reaction was to the attacks in India a few months ago.
With the twins getting older now and the amount of time that it takes to complete an international adoption, I could definitely see them making plans to adopt a child from India. Obviously, Angelina is a little busy right now with filming, but if there’s a trip to India in the near future, I would not be shocked at all.
What do you think of this latest rumor? While gossip is gossip, at least this one is a positive story, rather than the same old, washed-out “trouble in paradise” garbage!

Stars’s Favorite Books
Think Hollywood stars don’t enjoy good literature? Think again. Here are some stars’ favorite books of all time.
Angelina Jolie: “Vlad the Impaler: In Search of the Real Dracula” by M.J. Trow
“Vlad the Impaler: In Search of the Real Dracula” centers on the 15th-century bloodsucking torturer Vlad the Impaler, and the myths surrounding his life. Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula is supposedly based on the life of Vlad Tepes.
“I liked Vlad the Impaler,” Jolie said at the “Beowulf” premiere in 2007. “I had probably every book on him [as a child].”
I don’t think that Katie looks disheveled, she usually looks pretty good. I think she may be stressed though because you can tell that Suri obviously doesn’t like the paparazzi at all, there have been many photos with her trying to hide her head in Katie’s (or Tom’s) arms. I know that Zahara doesn’t like them either but she usually does her “go to hell” staredown instead. I like seeing Jennifer out with Violet too because she looks more like me (not literally, I mean style-wise – I don’t look like Angie when I’m out with the kids, I’m lucky if I remember to brush my hair!).
Melodie, the reason that there’s so much criticism about Madonna is because of the way she’s going about the adoptions. While her heart may be in the right place, from what I’ve understood, Malawi legally does not allow international adoption but she was able to bend the rules with her money, whereas Angelina always adopted from countries that do allow international adoption.
As for the time period, I wouldn’t be surprised if they start the process soon because it can take a year or more to get everything finalized. In regards to location though, I don’t know. I would sort of expect them to adopt from Africa this time, though India would have made sense to me too – but I didn’t know about their strict adoption rules.
I was curious so I looked up the guidelines and found this:

It doesn’t sound very likely that they will be able to adopt from India in the end. They have more than three children, and it says they won’t allow adoptions by parents who have a history of substance abuse, and Angelina has always fully admitted to that in the past.
sherry: i did the same as you, i went on some adoption site and saw the same things: it’s really hard to adopt in india!
I agree with you accidentalbranfan..
No matter who their next addition would be just perfect.
I just miss them. Hopefully, we’ll see more photos of the whole family.
accidentalBRANfan, i think Angie looks good when she’s with the kids because she is very comfortable and very relaxed. she doesn’t care about what people thinks about her and the papz and so is Jen i think. they both doesn’t care about how they look and are both focus on their kids. Katie on the otherhand looks conscious and pressured all the time. i think she worries about how she looks rather than how uncomfortable Suri is with the papz. i may be wrong but it’s what i can see. and about Suri covering her ears and face all the time when she’s out, i hope Tom and Katie can help her overcome her fear of the papz by explaining to her in a simple manner why some people are interested in getting their photos.
i hope too that we’ll see them sooner or later!
Indian adoption requirements seem to be too restricted for them. I think they will adopt a little girl from Africa – someone that looks like Zahara.
i think neither Madonna nor Angie should get critisized for adopting…..wether the rumor is true or not will be seen in future. personally i don´t believe it, but i think it would be great if they would adopt again – regardless from which country.
Sherry, why was my comment not coming out of the moderation queue, and why did you eventually even delete it? I said nothing offensive at all. I was just discussing the family dynamics and in which way they might change when adopting another girl around Zahara´s age.
Victoria – I didn’t delete it at all, I just didn’t get a chance to go into the moderation queue until now. I only had time to put up a post quickly earlier and had some stuff to take care of (making supper, nothing exciting unfortunately!).
If you scroll up, your comment is there now.
I think that if they adopt any time soon, they might adopt a child whose age is between Shiloh and the twins. I doubt it would be easy to handle another infant now. I don’t think they ever said that they wanted to adopt another girl for Zahara – just another child that looks similar. In terms of dynamics a boy might be better in that he would eventually be someone Knox could be close to. They’ll do whatever they want of course – just speculating. In any case, families are all unique and no matter how you try to plan it the personality of the children play a roll in how close they are and to whom. Not to mention that those dynamics change over the years. I think initially they will do what seems most practical.
angiefan- Actually, what Angie said (if I’m thinking of the same interview you are, that is) is that you can’t begin the adoption process until any new children are six months old.
Obviously some agencies DO allow you to adopt when you have a child under 1 year old, as Pax was adopted when Shi was 10 months old.
Amanda- I, too, have a hunch that the next child they adopt won’t be as old as Pax was when he was adopted. Two things are giving me that hunch.
One is that, provided they adopt again at some point this year, Zahara will be younger than Maddox was when they adopted Pax. Therefore, assuming they’d go with a child slightly younger than her (just as they went with a child slightly younger than Maddox), I’m guessing they’ll adopt 2 year-old.
The other is that, assuming they adopt from Africa again, I have a feeling that, sadly, there probably aren’t too many older African kids avaliable for adoption. I mean, Zee, for example, probably would have died before her first birthday had Angie not adopted her.
accidentalbranfan- Interesting points! I don’t think Jen Garner usually looks that stressed. I think she mostly looks “casual”. By that I mean she might be pictured with her hair uncombed, or wearing slightly mis-matched clothes, or looking quite tired.
However, people have pointed out that Ben Affleck often looks very upset when the paps take photos of him dropping off or picking up Violet from Preschool. I’m sure he wishes they’d just let his little girl (and the other kids who attend that preschool) go to school in peace!
As for Katie, I agree with whomever it was that said it might be because Suri appears to at least somtimes be afraid of the paps (Tom said a few months back that she’s at least sometimes okay with them, at times even waving to them, which is evident in some photos of her. I have a feeling she has a love-h8te relationship with the paps.).
That said, I’ve noticed that people often criticizng Tom and Katie for taking Suri out when she seems to be scared of the paps. Yet, from Angie and Brad’s interviews, most people know that Zee is afraid of the paps….But people rarely, if ever, criticize Angie and Brad for bringing Zee out when she’s clearly afraid of the paps.
Any idea why this double-standard?
Getting back on topic a bit….I just realized another very good reason for Angie and Brad not adopt a baby or a toddler under 2. If they did that at this point, they’d have THREE kids in diapers at the same time (assuming that Shi is potty trained by now, that is. If she isn’t, then they’d have FOUR in diapers!)!
Now, obviously they can more than afford enough diapers for three babies/kids, but let’s face it: Who really wants to change that many diapers every day?
That boy that she supposedly told that to speaks almost no English. This is BS.
dhc- Well, when they adopted Pax so Maddox could have someone who looked like him, they choose a child the same gender as him. I think that’s why so many of us are speculating that they will choose a same-gender African child for Zee.
I recently adopted from India. You have to be an Indian citizen to adopt from there or be of Indian origin (if you have a foriegn passport). I doubt they would be allowed to adopt from India unless it is a special needs child. They are EXTREMELY strict about foriegners adopting.
i hope they will adopt an indonesian child.
