New teaser trailer for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (English)

by Sherry on June 12th, 2008

Paramount has now released the English version of the movie trailer for Brad Pitt’s upcoming film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. We had already seen the trailer a little earlier but it was an international release and the voiceover was in Spanish. This time we get to hear Brad’s own voice speaking and people who were unable to understand the language before can hear what he says.

The imagery is still the same as the international trailer.

I can’t get over the concept of this movie. I’ve never read the original short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald (written in the 1920s and titled simply “Benjamin Button”) but I’ve read some of his other works and he was a brilliant writer. The idea of a man getting younger in appearance as he ages in years is intriguing but the clip also gives the impression that it’s going to be a very emotional, sad movie.

If you’re curious, you can read the entire story over here. I wasn’t going to read it so that the story’s ending would be a surprise but I think I might just go ahead and read it this evening when the kids are in bed. I always like reading the original story before seeing the movie so I can see how the film version stands up to the written version.

Is Shiloh supposed to be in this trailer?

I know Cate Blanchett plays Daisy, Benjamin’s love. Who does Tilda Swinton play?

I used to always read the book before the movie because I didn’t want the movie to spoil my experience of the book. After my sons got into the business, I learned to look at books & movies as entirely independent of each other. With books, our imagination has no limits about time, location, etc. A lot of times readers are disappointed with movie adaptations. Because of running time limitations, budget & technical limitations, a lot is cut out, many characters are combined into one or eliminated, locations and the order of events changed, etc. Also, what’s good in a book might not be good in the visual language of the movies.

People in the business do say that short stories are ideal for adapting into movies, so we can hope for the best for Benjamin Button.

Can’t wait either. As soon as I saw the trailer, I wanted to go out & see CCBB. The trailer reminds me of Pan’s Labyrinth, especially the music. It looks magically surreal.

Good thing KFP, Wanted & Changeling can make the waiting bearable.

Lovely trailer. At last the English version!

Ligaya, yes Shiloh is in it. I think she plays their daughter, because you see Cate looking at them from a window!

We have wonderful films to look forward to: Wanted, Changeling and then Benjamin B.
