Countdown to Cannes: One week!
May 13, 2009 by Sherry

Who else is excited for this time next week? The Cannes Film Festival kicks into gear soon and Inglourious Basterds is set to debut on May 20th as part of the competition. This is excellent news for PittWatch people!
If the movie starts on the 20th, that means there’s a good chance that we’ll see photos of Brad Pitt arriving at Cannes as early as the 19th. Then we know we’ll get two sets of photos on the Wednesday because there’s always a photo call for the press early in the day, followed by the red carpet arrival photos later on.
While there’s nothing official out there yet, we can all figure there’s a really good chance that Angelina Jolie will be on the red carpet with Brad Pitt the night of Inglourious Basterds. Not only do they both always support each other on the red carpet whenever possible (notable and understandable exception - right after Angie gave birth to Knox and Vivienne of course!), it’s quite possible it will be the first time that Brad and Angelina get to see the movie themselves.
I have heard whispers that Angelina got time off from shooting Salt in order to accompany Brad to Cannes, but that it will be a very in-and-out visit due to her schedule, so it will just be the two of them. While I’d love to see the kids too, I’m perfectly happy with just seeing Brad and Angelina on the red carpet thanks.
Time has a nice piece up about the Cannes Film Festival in general, where they mention that Brad is practically a staple of the event:
As for Brad Pitt, he’s been a regular eminence here. He was on-screen in 2006 for Ocean’s Thirteen but stayed in Namibia to be with Angelina Jolie as she gave birth to their daughter Shiloh, was here in 2007 for Babel, and accompanied Jolie last year when she starred in Clint Eastwood’s Changeling. Now he’s the star of Quentin Tarantino’s World War II epic Inglourious Basterds. So, to fanciers of ambitious films and soulful beefcake, Pitt and Depp will be battling for the title of Sexiest 45-Year-Old to Walk Up the Red Carpet.
(If I may make an aside, I see no need to battle it out. As far as I’m concerned, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp can just stand side-by-side and call it a tie while I drool.)
Later in the article they mention Quentin Tarantino and Inglourious Basterds again:
Tarantino, who’s as much a movie fan as a moviemaker, is always welcome here; last year his two-hour conversation with film critic Michel Ciment filled the 900-seat Debussy theater to overflowing. Inglourious Basterds marks his first competition effort since he copped the Palme d’Or, Cannes’ top prize, in 1994 with Pulp Fiction. His war movie, with Pitt leading a squad of Jewish-American soldiers against the Nazis, is the centerpiece selection a week from today.

I am very eager to not only see the red carpet Cannes photos (and see what Angelina wears this year - last year she wore my favorite green dress, as pictured above!), I can’t wait to hear what the critics say about Inglourious Basterds. They showed a brief trailer of it in the theater on Saturday while showing a quick selection of upcoming summer blockbusters, and it seriously looks like a great flick.
There’s no telling what stories and photos will be available over the next few days - maybe more grocery outings, Brad hanging out with the kids, or Salt set photos - but stick close to PittWatch this time next week because I guarantee I’ll be very busy getting photos and videos of Brad Pitt (and Angelina Jolie!) at the Cannes Film Festival up online!

Brad Pitt gets some competition - from Leonard Nimoy!
May 12, 2009 by Sherry

“Brad, look out!” That was the warning given to Brad Pitt by Leonard Nimoy live from Jimmy Fallon’s studio.
With the promotion of the new Star Trek movie running rampant lately, both Leonard Nimoy who was the original Spock and Zachary Quinto who plays the younger Spock were on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
At one point, Zachary turned to Leonard and spilled the beans about Angelina Jolie’s affection:
“I had the pleasure around Academy Awards season to meet Angelina Jolie at a party and she said, and this will make you feel good, ‘I’ve always been in love with the real Mr Spock’.”
Leonard, who is 78, was stunned for a moment and could only say, “Wow.”
After a moment he composed himself and said only, “Brad, look out!”
These are the kinds of moments that make me smile. That’s so cute! I can just imagine Leonard Nimoy walking tall after that!
If you’re in the U.S. you can see the full episode here.
Thanks to Neer for this story.
(If you’re even a little bit of a Trek fan, I urge you to GO SEE IT in theaters with the massive screens and surround sound. It was so amazing that I’m debating going to see it again.)

Videos of Angelina Jolie filming Salt
May 11, 2009 by Sherry
I was able to find some video footage of Angelina Jolie filming Salt, which is pretty cool. I love seeing behind the scenes to see how they set things up for specific shots. This first video is amazing, it shows the scene involving Angelina and the high speed truck scene. Some of the video features still shots and there’s also actual video with Angie up on top of a truck.
The next one is just a brief video clip from some sort of entertainment show, which also shows Angelina on top of the trucks as well as on her motorcycle.
What a shame that we have to wait more than a year to see this movie!
Wanted: Brad Pitt in Sex and the City sequel!
May 11, 2009 by Sherry

A lot of people would love to star opposite Brad Pitt in a movie, and Mario Cantone is no exception. Mario plays Anthony Marentino in Sex and the City, a good friend of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), who happens to be gay. He said that he would love to have Brad Pitt play his love interest in the next film.
Mario was quoted as saying, “I’ve always said I wanted Brad Pitt to play my lover, but that’s never going to happen because he’s much better looking. Either him or Ashton Kutcher!”
I thought that was hilarious. See? Brad Pitt appeals to everyone women AND men alike!
I think he should be sure that he doesn’t hold his breath though; somehow I don’t see Brad ever taking a role in a Sex and the City movie, it’s not really his style!

Happy Mother’s Day from PittWatch
May 10, 2009 by Sherry

With today being a special day, I’d like to wish a very happy Mother’s Day to all my PittWatch readers who are also mothers or who are celebrating with their own moms or memories of them.
I’m sure that Brad Pitt and the kids are all going to make the day wonderful for Angelina Jolie in some way. I hope she has a great day - and I hope you do too!
Also, with Saturday being her mother Marcheline Bertrand’s birthday, I’m sure she’s keeping her close in her thoughts - the double whammy of remembering your late mother on a weekend where her birthday AND Mother’s Day fall one day apart must be very difficult. Thankfully Angelina has six beautiful children to keep her smiling and happy.
Have a great day!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sightings
May 8, 2009 by Sherry
This is the cutest video ever. A local news station ended up talking to some people about the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sightings that have been going on in New York State lately. The locals mentioned seeing them at Dunkin’ Donuts, CVS, and that Brad even has a Stop & Shop card.
I liked that they were all really excited to have Brad and Angelina in their town but they weren’t constantly harassing the couple, just trying to get a peek at them and a few from-a-distance cell phone pictures. The hairdresser made me laugh, especially when she was describing everything about what Brad was wearing and the reporter interrupted and said, “so you didn’t get any details”.
It must be exciting to have celebrities in your town, especially if it’s something that’s not overly common but even more so when it’s someone like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie!
Thanks to the the readers who alerted me!
Angelina Jolie one of Glamour’s Most Glamorous Women of 2009
May 7, 2009 by Sherry

Here’s something that’s no surprise to fans - Angelina Jolie ranked in the top five Most Glamorous Women of 2009 on the Glamour magazine’s annual list.
Angie came in 4th place with the caption:
Last year’s number one has a style uniform that works: simple, classic, modern. “She stands out without wearing a look-at-me dress,” says Roxanne Lowit.
You can’t deny that. I think most of us were lukewarm about some of Angelina’s dress choices at the awards shows this year, but she still looked fantastic in all of them. She always wears her clothes - they never wear her.
Naturally, biased though I may be, I would put Angelina Jolie at the top of the list myself. However, she was surpassed by three classy and beautiful ladies (Kate Winslet #1, Anne Hathaway #2, and First Lady Michelle Obama #3) so I won’t complain too much!
See the full slideshow of the top 50 in Glamour’s Most Glamorous Women of 2009 right here if you’re curious about the other contenders - lots of great women in there!

Albany mayor takes time to meet and greet Angelina Jolie
May 6, 2009 by Sherry

Even politicians can be hit with a bit of starstruck awe. While Angelina Jolie was filming in Albany, their mayor Jerry Jennings added meeting Angie to his list of things to do that day.
Mayor Jennings arrived on site where filming was taking place on the temporarily closed highway and asked if everything was going well, then mentioned that if it wasn’t going to inconvenience anyone, he’d love to take a moment to properly welcome Angelina to the area. Being as gracious as she always is, Angelina immediately came over to shake the mayor’s hand and to tell him that she had very much enjoyed her time in Albany.
She also invited the mayor to stick around and watch the remainder of the shooting. I’ll bet he would have enjoyed the opportunity but he had to decline since he had other commitments to attend to. However, Mayor Jennings did linger long enough to pose for a photo with Angelina, taken with his cell phone.
(Alas, the mayor has not contacted me with an offer to use his photo!)
All of that is interesting in and of itself, but here’s my favorite part of the article right here (emphasis mine):
He knew the actress was staying the night and suggested, if she needed anything, to let him know. She said “Brad (Pitt) was coming over and they were going to take it easy, stay in the hotel room and watch the fight,” referring to the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton light-welterweight championship from Las Vegas, Jennings said.
I’m not interested in getting into all the awful tabloid headlines that are circulating YET AGAIN this week. Naturally, they’re swarming with alarming relationship “news”, most likely due to the fact that Brad flew to L.A. earlier to take in the Chris Cornell concert (Randi has a photo over here). If the tabloids were right, I highly doubt that Brad and Angelina would be hanging out and relaxing together if they were in the midst of high-profile relationship drama.
I love that the mayor took time out of his day to go meet Angelina Jolie!

Angelina Jolie is a motorcycle mama
May 5, 2009 by Sherry
We already know that Angelina Jolie is a bad-ass on-screen, so it’s not much of a surprise that she looks perfectly at ease on a motorcycle. I’ve only been able to find one photo so far, security must have been pretty good at keeping people away from the closed streets and highways during filming of the most recent Salt scenes, but you can see one over here.
So far we have seen scenes of Evelyn A. Salt running through DC with a backpack, running barefoot in a business suit, scaling a building, hanging onto the top of a racing truck, and now perched on a motorcycle. It bears mentioning again that I can not wait to see this movie. At this point I’m starting to wonder if there will be any quiet moments, any downtime for poor Evelyn!

In related Angelina Jolie news, she’s got three nominations over at the MTV Movie Awards. MTV is so weird, they come up with the craziest categories. Angelina is up for “Best Kiss” with James McAvoy in Wanted. I loved that scene, it was so perfect. The movie also got her nominated for “Best Female Performance”.

Possibly my favorite nomination though, is in the new category simply called “WTF” in which she’s nominated for the infamous curved bullet kill scene. The category title is very apt considering that’s *exactly* what I said after that scene!
Please be sure to go vote. She’s up against Twilight in two categories - Kristen Stewart for “Best Female Performance” and she’s also up against Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson for “Best Kiss”. There are a LOT of major Twilight fans online, so we have to step up and vote if we want to compete with the heavily teen-fueled vampire votes!
Angelina Jolie’s column in Time Magazine
May 4, 2009 by Sherry

Not only did Brad Pitt get a serious nod by appearing on Time’s 100 Most Influential List in the Builders and Titans category, Angelina Jolie wrote a column for the same issue as well. Continuing to demonstrate that she’s not just a pretty (gorgeous) face with a talent for acting, she wrote the article discusses Somaly Mam who - during the uprising of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia - was sold into sexual slavery by a man claiming to be her grandfather.

The story goes on to tell about her daring escape and subsequent return to Cambodia to fight against sexual slavery - and the devastating consequences that brought about.
I am so happy that Angelina Jolie works so hard for human rights and by that brings these stories to our attention. She does so much for so many people and inspires so many of us to do what we can to help as well.
The piece was written to honor Somaly Mam as one of the 100 Most Influential people under the Heroes and Icons category. What a fabulous acknowledgment.
I know there are a lot of wonderful and caring people here at PittWatch who enjoy helping others whenever possible. If you’d like to know more about Somaly Mam and her cause, you can check out her foundation’s website here.
In other news, this local Albany paper says that today was Angelina Jolie’s last day of filming Salt in their downtown area. It sounds like shooting is really motoring along, so here’s hoping that Angelina will be with Brad Pitt in Cannes in a little more than a week!
