Photos of Angelina Jolie in Iraq

by Sherry on February 7th, 2008

Angelina Jolie has been busy since arriving in Iraq. She’s been in long meetings to discuss the plight of Iraqi refugees who have been displaced both within their own country and abroad, and is pushing for more international aid to help them during this crisis. In between meetings, she also boosted morale by visiting with some of the American troops in the Green Zone, eating lunch with them.

There are several great photos of Angelina in her meetings, with the troops, and walking in the Green Zone in a protective helmet. She is so consistently brave when it comes time to stand up for people who need help; not everyone would head into Baghdad like that. I’m so glad that she’s passionate about important global issues instead of just worrying about partying like half of Hollywood.

More photos below the cut.

I wonder about the pictures of her in a vest and helmet?? Do you think those are real or media shots? I can’t imagine her doing that pregnant - or Brad Pitt thinking it would be cool. It is one thing to do brave things when it is just your life, but every instinct in my body was to protect that infant when I was pregnant. I think she’s wonderful. I don’t doubt her commitment to these issues - who could? But doesn’t it seem a little at odd with being pregnant - those pictures. I can understand her flying and traveling and representing issues, but being in a situation where you need an armed escort with military weapon and a helmet and bullet proof vest.. pregnant? I think maybe she isn’t pregnant after all.

Brad’s got to be worried sick at home. Hope she stays safe and out of harm.

I haven’t made my decision on the pregnant rumor yet. I’m like fifty fifty. I would love for her to be pregnant but at the same time I know she wants more kids but I feel she already has enough on her plate and should take it easy.

Yes I agree with Carrie. I used to live in a conflict area and I moved back to the US because of my kids. So, whether or not she is pregnant she is still responsible for 4 little kids at home. I’m not saying it’s reckless but it’s tenuous at best. Do you have captions for any of the pictures? Who is the lady with her and Gen. P.?

She’s not the first female to put herself in a difficult position nor will she be the last. Christiane Amanpour is an example. A journalist who is very passionate about what she does. I feel Angie has the same passion for her position with UNHCR.

War correspondent. Dedicated journalist. Now add “new mother.”

She is an amazing woman. I hope she goes home safe and sound. If she is pregnant, she must be at the very early stage so don’t worry about it. Her gynecologist, Dr. Rothbart could have warned her if it is too dangerous. Actually, you could be sleeping comfortably anywhere at your house, if it’s your time to go, the walls could cave in and you’re dead. I think this is why Brad loves Angie. She is a universal woman with a passion to help others. The entertainment world should be proud of her too. Instead of partying in resort beaches and nightclubs, she chose this event with the soldiers. Love you Angie.

I think she is amazing! With all this media attention on Britney, I’m really glad someone’s genuinely interested in the wellfare of the victims of war.

There’s loads of celebrities who “dabble” with charities, but Angelina is one of the few who are actually out there constantly and consistently, trying to make a difference. And the fact that she’s out there alone and without a huge entourage of assistants and such tells me that she actually cares.

I’m sure Brad is worried about her but I don’t think he has much say in what she does ;) I’m sure he was well aware of her going on these kinds of trips when they got together and from what I gather it’s one of the reasons he fell for her. Because she’s about more than herself and her career.

And if she’s pregnant like is reported … well great, but she’s not handicapped. It’s a risky move to go to Irak but I think she sees it as something worth taking a few risks.

I’m constantly amazed at how much she’s grown as a person and how fully she lives her life. She’s a true inspiration. Career, family, charities and geniuinely helping people. I bet she doesn’t go to bed every night thinking she should have done something.

I’m astonished she’s let herself be used for propaganda purposes like this, look at that photo? Terrible.

so let me understand, angie may not be pregnant because she went to a war zone, that bullet proof vest covering her stomach tells me everything i need to know that she is indeed pregnant-but to each his own.it is interesting angie has not denied the rumors that she is pregnant which she has always done in the past.

God bless and protects her always. I have my prayers for this woman. Even in a situation like this (un-glamour moment) she still looks gorgeous. beauty indeed comes from within.

Hi Sherry glad to hear it, I watched her 6 hour documentary:” God’s Warriors CNN’s Christiane Amanpour explores the roles of faith and religion in modern society in a special report”. There is also a short video of her explaining the special on CNN. Women are doing big things, we have the power to choose where, and on what we place our attention/focus. My prayers for Angie a safe trip home and a happy reunion with the family. Angie, where ever you may be right now (smile) God Bless you and your family. I’ll be back to check. Love your site Sherry. Happy weekend to everyone.

US Weekly isn’t exactly the most reputable magazine, but story in there today online regarding the Life & Style cover of Shiloh being completely false:

regarding whether the ‘green zone’ shot is set up: NO WAY - they have so much else to deal with in Iraq - they don’t have time for a ‘fake shot’
plus it looks like the camera guy is pretty far away. they probably weren’t even aware that the photo was being taken….

Joseph she is a good will ambassador. They are the people that highlight issues. What is wrong with that? I am confused. These refuges , women, children injured old people would be having a terrible situation so why is this bad ?

Yes the photo is not her at her best but she is going to a place where looking your best would be so silly and false. It shows that glamour is not the forfront of her mind at that time, and if you are serious about an issue you where the appropriate clothes.

Yes Angelina has a responsibility to her kids, but she is still allowed to engage in some careful, calculated risk taking. I think that if you think about it, there’s something deeply sexist about saying that pregnant women or mothers should stop doing what they usually do because it might pose a risk to their kids. What about Brad, would it have been OK for HIM to go to Iraq? What about male war correspondents, should they not have kids?????
I think Angie is pregnant. She did not deny the rumor and as someone else mentioned in the posts as well it does in fact seem like she is wearing a bullet proof thingamagig around her belly…. Never seen her do that before in a war zone……

Personally, I find that Angelina has her priorities mixed up. She is pressing for all this aid and traveling everywhere but who is taking care of her kids? It is not emotionally healthy for them to be absent as much as she is. Additionally, she should not be allowed to adopt anymore until she her current children healthy and a bit older. She cannot possibly be giving them, esp the adopted ones with issues, the attention they so desperately need at this time. I personally believe there are so many issues here, in the USA, where she lives, that she can give her time to until the kids are a bit older. She can also lobby for international interests from here, she does not HAVE to travel. I just don’t think she is all that wonderful and she is neglecting her kids.

Most of you guys have lots of nice things to say about Ange, she is such a good example to others. I really admire her & she is an advocate for refugees flight in Iraq & in other war torn countries, she leaves her glamorous life & comfort of home to be in Iraq & assure the refugees that they are not forgotten. I was also wondering, if she is not pregnant how come she never denied the rumor, maybe she is pregnant after all. Time will tell. For now, let’s respect their privacy. God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.

I so admie her, and think its great that while she is there to highlight the devestation of war she still stops to have lunch with a young marine. It shows you can be anti war but still tell those young men and women,(just with her presence)
that she understands its not their fault.

what I am reading from some of you all commends are good and you seem very concern but my point I am going to make is that most of you are selfish which is not the way Angelina Jolie thinks. I read somewhere that if you are not willing to die for something you are not passionate about it, anyway words to that effect. all I hear is selfish americans talking, who said she is even pregnant you are drawing conclusion without any facts

Karen - I sort of see that as a sexist point of view. No one blinks if a man travels on occasion for work. That’s “normal” but everyone makes a big deal of it when it’s the mother.

Also, I’m not sure why you think she’s away a lot - if she’s filming, her family comes with her so that they’re still together at the end of the day. Her trips for the UN are never for a long period, only a matter of days.

It’s not 1950 anymore - a lot of women travel for work, it doesn’t mean they neglect their children.

Thanks for the update. I traveled to the Middle East, Island, next to Saudi Arabia, (Bahrain), and almost married a Prince, Michael Bulucchi, whom I met in the states. I loved it there and did not want to leave at the time. On my venture, following my Fathers’s footsteps, 24 yrs., Army support, and in Iran, past wars etc., my Mom like Angie, beautiful, smart, strong, very involved, so amazing! It’s tuff! I’d love to put the picture of my Mom and Elivis Presley on the blog, when per picture was taken with him, in his service days. In my eyes, Angie’s Mother was her Guardian Angel and a Saint given to our world. I feel so grateful to watch Brad and Angie’s Family grow. Their children will honor them so much as parents, as we all do ours. Damm, they are so IT!

I feel like I know them and Love them Both.

I strongly agree with Sherry. People should check their sexism. It’s not the 1950s anymore - we even have women soldiers, pilots, etc. Some of these women have kids they left at home because their orders said so.

Karen, being judgmental goes along with being sexist. Who said you could decide how other people live their lives. It’s so presumptuous to say that Angelina should/should not be allowed to adopt anymore - you’re acting as if you’re God.

I’ve seen Angelina in a kevlar vest before - except it was U.N. blue - when she was checking landmines. The kevlar vest & helmet don’t prove or disprove her pregnancy. Everyone in Baghdad - soldiers, journalists, western workers - wear the vests & helmets for protection. Everyone but the Iraqis, that is - who’re forced to go without protection. The vests are very heavy - tens of pounds. The idea is that the essential central body organs are protected by the vest, and the head by the helmet. These are the areas where a wound could be fatal.
