Roseanne Barr shoots flames at Brad and Angelina

August 18, 2008 by Sherry

I debated about whether or not to even bother writing about this because, on the one hand, who cares? However, on the other hand, several readers have emailed me to ask me to post about it so we can talk about it. So here you go.

Roseanne Barr posted a blog entry of her own, where she ripped apart Jon Voight, then went on to tear down Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. One classy gem is this:

your evil spawn Angelina Jolie and her vacuous hubby Brad Pitt make about forty million dollars a year in violent psychopathic movies and give away three of it to starving children trying to look as if they give a crap about humanity as they spit out more dunces that will consume more than their fair share and wreck the earth even more. (Just sayin’).

I don’t even really know what to say. I know that not everyone is going to love Brad and Angelina, and honestly, I really don’t expect everyone to do so. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion, but what purpose is served by spewing such incredible vitriol as that? There are several celebrities that I personally can’t stand, but I can’t be bothered to go out of my way to blast each one of them - nor do I go to fan websites and snark over there. I just leave it at “I really don’t like XYZ” and there’s no need for more.

I can only wonder if Roseanne has some new project coming up and needs to direct some free publicity her way. Slamming two major stars who are of interest to a great deal of people? That is a surefire way to get attention.

Never mind that she’s not even right. Brad and Angelina donate a great deal more money than just $3 million. I’d love Roseanne to let us know how much SHE gives to those in need on a regular basis.

I won’t even get into the snarky tone she uses when discussing the Jolie-Pitt children.

It’s a shame and it saddens me because I was always a huge fan of Roseanne - in fact I still love to watch the show Roseanne in re-runs in the evenings. She never failed to make me laugh (especially now that I’m a mother myself and can relate even more), but now she’s just making me sigh.

Ugh. In light of this, let’s all watch the wonderful video that reader Lara linked to in the comments a few entries back, a video showing some of the great work Angelina Jolie has done with the UNHCR - some of the footage includes things Brad Pitt has done too.

Take THAT, Roseanne.

Rosanne can stick her apology up her rear! What’s been said, was not nice. She does not have a kind bone in her. Beside her apology is 1/2 ass - and does not sound sincere.

Rosanne Barr’s comments, as well as the comments of some blog posters, demonstrate classic examples of the term “schadenfreude”. There’s always someone out there taking glee over any misfortune upon the rich and famous, which fuels the tabloids. In reality, it’s simply a disguise for envy and jealousy. Here we have a washed-up, washed-out actor/comedian making commentary and personal attacks on virtually a 21st Century Renaissance Woman and her family. What has Barr done lately? For that matter, who cares?
    Definitely a sad scenario……………

lets see, what world did she live in when she was somebody? I think it was the entertainment (well maybe not glamour or fashion) world, talk about biting the hand that once fed her. Oh, I see the problem, once is a key word here. Does this mean she believes she has no talent and no longer inhabits the world of entertainmnent? For once I can say that I agree with her! As for expressing my free opinion (people do like to hiding behind that saying). Does this mean I’m free to say anything I want or as in it would not cost me anything, because nothing is free am afraid. All things come with a price. And I’m thinking that whats-her-bucket will soon pay a price. She is not looking at the big picture here. When you spout off saying negative things that involve other people or organzations you drag their persona down with you. I can not imagine that is a good thing or very helpful. I can’t help wondering what Obama must be thinking of his newest (and most articulate) supporter. I mean I was so impressed with how she pinned this, words escape me. Example-(I) do not mean to personally impugn them as they might be good people in the flesh, as in not in the flesh, insert confusion here. Vile and smelly images (their pictures are hateful and stinky?) and lets not forget, tastemakers, huh? Think you she made that one up? As the old saying goes, there is no such thing as bad press, but that was before whats-her-bucket got involved! Do you think someone from the Mccain camp hired her? I but wonder.

    ligaya,
Does that mean your going to the Toronto Film Festival? Keep your eyes open For Brad he will be there too.

  7. Mary Ann says:

Ligaya that is so exciting about Ryan. I hope you and your husband can go. Now I know the most important event will be Ryan’s Sugar, but if by any chance you do happen to see Brad I think you should trip right in front of him. Fall to the ground, and he being the gentleman that he is he will help you up and then maybe you can express how everyone at Pittwatch loves the Jolie-Pitt family. (nice dream huh???)

  8. Ligaya says:

Yes! We’ll be going - this might be our only chance to see one of Ryan’s films screened at TIFF. Have to strike while the iron is hot!…hisss… (jumping cartwheels) Do you think the tree colors will be showing by then?

Very nice dream, Mary Ann. ;-) Maybe wearing my Project MIR organic t-shirt and carrying my MIR hot pink tote will give me an edge - what do you think?

HELLO! Canada readers vote Angelina ‘Most Beautiful Woman 2008′SEND TO A FRIEND 20 August 2008 As our inaugural website poll to find the most beautiful woman of 2008 drew to a close it was clear HELLO! Canada readers had no problems picking a winner. Over the past two-and-a-half weeks, 35,000 votes were cast declaring Angelina Jolie the winner of the number one spot on our list of glamorous beauties.

“She has a kind of Audrey Hepburn-ish quality about her,” said fellow actor Robert De Niro of the gorgeous brunette who this summer welcomed twins with her equally photogenic other half Brad Pitt.

The 33-year-old not only knows how to light up the red carpet, but her natural beauty also radiates during her humanitarian missions as a UN goodwill ambassador.

WOOHOO!!! Thanks for the heads up and posting the link, {appetizing}. That’s the first time I’ve heard that de Niro quote. Some people might think that’s a strange comparison because Audrey Hepburn had a delicate quality and played mostly lady-like roles. But Audrey had the steel that Angelina has of standing up for the right thing. Both have been UN Goodwill ambassadors, and Audrey went into the field and spread awareness like Angelina. You could say Angelina is following in Audrey’s footsteps. Both have shown their acting chops in nuanced performances. Both have impeccable taste in RC fashions. Most of all, they had in common their deep love for their families.

I think I know what de Niro means. Clint Eastwood called Angelina a timeless, classic beauty. Angelina and Audrey could be of any era.

Frustrating - every one of my posts goes under moderation.

Rosy needs publicity and is a brat (putting it nicely). She should crawl under a rock - oops, boulder!

“Another” Sherry, Kim and Mary Ann - my response is UNDER MOD. Oy vey!

  15. Mary Ann says:

Good morning Pittwatch community. This is kind of a test, I also was having problems for the last two days, so I am sending this one to see if it is still happening.

  16. Lara says:

armond> “a 21st Century Renaissance Woman and her family” - VERY GOOOOD! Bravo! Very well said. I like it a lot :)

And about the fact that angie was voted as the most beautifull….was there any doubt? :P

  17. ligaya says:

Prometheus 1816, Nell, and Lac, I TOTALLY COMPLETELY ABSOLUTELY agree with you. It’s been impossible to get through. Sorry this is late.

I was just really surprised that she picked out Brad and Angelina for her tirade on politics and voting in the upcoming election. There are several other celebs that are more actively involved politically and more vocal on their support for either McCain or Obama.

I wasn’t sure what she intended when she wrote that. Sometimes people get too wrapped up in the emotions of politics or any serious discussion for that matter and they use attack and negativity to win arguments or prove points (who hasn’t seen someone do that before?). I just found the entire argument baseless and pretty pointless when you look at the election.

After all, shouldn’t she be pleading her case to the actual millions of nameless faces that will decide this election rather than a couple of celebs? It’s okay to support your candidate and disagree with anyone who supports the opposition, but I think we all have to remember that the best strategy to win over the dissenting voices is to use persuasion in a positive light. Attacking people for their personal beliefs only leads to further conflict and divide.

If Roseanne wanted us to understand why Obama was a better candidate than McCain, she should have stuck with the facts of the election and where each candidate stands on issues she deems important. How Brad and Angelina even relate to Obama and McCain is beyond my understanding.

And we do have free choice to vote for whomever we want- I actually always thought that the reason why Angelina may have avoided committing to either candidate is because it’s a private decision that she may not want to use as an influence for other people. It isn’t anyone’s business who she votes for.

I never realized that we had to be 100% sure which candidate we’d support and if we were undecided, that we were poor excuses for voters and citizens. Roseanne has some valid points, but she presents them the wrong way. Her tirade came across as hateful and cruel. Who would ever drag someone’s children into a political debate (even if she was making a point that their future was important in this election’s upcoming result)?

But why should we be surprised? Try reading some of her other attacks against politicians and celebs. It generally follows the same line of attack and cruelty. And she contradicts herself quite often- switching viewpoints and candidates (wasn’t she anti-Obama at one time too).

I am sure Brad and Angelina could care less what she thinks of them- it’s sad that she can only use her own anger and hostility to attack innocent people that she doesn’t know instead of applying Obama’s beliefs to her own life and approach to fellow voters.

((sorry- I know I came into this discussion mighty late!!))

Susan, wow. That was a great post! Thanks. It seems long, but it’s a great summation, really.

  20. Mary Ann says:

Susan, very nice and well thought out.

To all our Pittwatch people in Florida, hope you are all okay. I spoke to my sister yesterday, she lives outside of Sanford in a town called Osteen and they were having alot of rain. I understand from The Weather Channel that that area is receiving alot of rain still today. I hope that all of you do not suffer to much with flooding. You are all in all of our prayers.
