Three Angelina Jolie BBC interview video clips

November 13, 2008 by Sherry

Angelina Jolie talks to the BBCAngelina Jolie spoke with the BBC and there are three great clips up on their site. In the first clip, Angelina talks about the struggle behind her decision to take on Changeling and speaks highly of Clint Eastwood who was part of her reason for taking the role. He truly sounds like a dream director.

In this clip, Angelina explains the decision to sell their baby photos. I’m glad she addressed it because my goodness, I am so tired of reading and hearing the snark about that. The reason that she gave for her and Brad Pitt deciding to sell the photos is pretty much what I’ve been saying all along.

She also talks a bit about how much she’s changed since her younger actress days. I like how the interviewer said that it’s hard, sometimes, for other people to look at her when she’s a movie star and remember that she’s just an ordinary mom at home.

Of course, I also like that while Angelina agreed with her but said that she likes to think that a lot of people, especially other mothers, can see through the glamor and see that she’s not that different in the end.

In the other clip, Angelina discusses why she might stop acting for the chance to be with her children as much as possible. She also laughs about the future when she’ll be a grandmother and says that she just like being home and that she feels she has a big responsibility to her children more than anything else.

What did you think about the interview?

wow. thanks for those 3 clips sherry. i believe the cover photo didn’t do justice, she looks radiant in that interview and classy. i couldn’t imagine what will happen if she’ll retire from acting, that would be so sad.

  2. nadia says:

Is there any ifo where they could go?

  3. Thanks for the clips Sherry. Very nice interview. Angie is a great mom who is willing to give up career for family. But I would also feel sad if Angie gives up acting because she is such a talented actress. I hope she can at least do one movie every two or three years.

  4. Original jpf says:

I said back right after Shiloh was born that I wouldn’t be at all surprised if she gave up acting to devote herself to her family and humanitarian work. If Sherry can find it, I’m sure I posted it here when Christine had the site.

I really feel that unless it’s someone like Clint or another director of that caliber courting her, or an amazing role that’s just to tantalizing to pass up, the Ayn Rand project will be her last.

She’s a bonafide Gemini earth mother just like my mom, and it’s like the most natural thing in the world for them to put mommyhood before personal ambition.

  5. Neela says:

I haven’t wathced the clips yet. Thanks to Sherry and to the poster(s) that recommended the clips.

I think she’s being her ole candid self. While I know it would be rewarding for her to retire from acting to focus solely on her family, I would certainly miss seeing her face on the screen. So, I hope she doesn’t retire any time soon.

I will admit that it’s hard for me to see past Angelina the actor because well, she does amazing things. But, it’s good to be reminded that she’s just like us common folks in many ways.

Original jpf, you’ve been around here for a long time. I only came on maybe a couple of years ago, when Sherry was on the helm already. Much respect to you :)

  6. Diana L says:

Sherry, Thanks! Great clips, I really enjoyed them. Angie is such a normal person, it always makes me smile to listen to her.
Yes, I’d hate to see this amazingly talented actress give up making movies, and I do hope that doesn’t happen. One a year would do.
She speaks of working in February…what’s she going to do? I haven’t heard any buzz yet.

  7. sumaya says:

    hi

i have seen it this morning on bbcw they showed a small part on it,in the knews

  8. Nikki says:

Thanks for the clips Sherry! I look forward to seeing this movie and I truly feel that Angelina has definitely grown over these last few years.

  9. FOXY BROWN says:

I’m happy for Brad and Angelina. I was worried that Angelina would possibly end up dead somewhere from feeling lost and alone, and that Brad would just go into hiding and end up sad and lonely–look what can happen with love and family in your life!!! I’m happy that they found each other.

  10. jussi says:

i think brad and angelina might be in england at the moment. ITV and the movies t.v show claim to be having angelina coming on to the program tomorrow at 12:30p.m. how come there are no photo’s. i aslo think angelina will be live on bbc radio 5 live tomoorow afternoon aswell. keep ur eyes peeled u.k fans!

  11. sarita says:

In the BBC interview, Angie said she’d be working this February and would then take another year off. Will this be the “Edwin A. Salt” movie everyone’s talked about (where she’ll take over a role originally meant for Tom Cruise)? Or is it “The Mercenary,” the movie noted as being “in production” on Angie’s IMDB page? Anyone know?

As for “Atlas Shrugged,” I REALLY hope it gets made one day!! Anyone know anything about the status of that movie?

  12. jussi says:

also a newspaper claims that angelina was going to go on the jonathan ross show in the u.k BUT as that show is now suspended, she is going to do ITV AT THE MOVIES INSTEAD. does anyone in the u.k think angelina was coming to england but as the show she was due on got pulled, angelina decided not to go to london? that’s a shame. damn u ross!

  13. jussi says:

  14. jussi says:

the movie angelina will shoot in feb 2009 will definatly be Edwin(a) a.salt

  15. Ligaya says:

Thanks for the clips and this thread, Sherry.

Jussi and Ayanna, thank you so much for the links. I posted this in the “uncool” discussion thread where it’s under moderation. We in the U.S. don’t know much about what’s going on in the European media.

I think the public gets confused when Angelina says she hasn’t worked in a year – because they see her in the media all the time. I believe when she says “work” she means filming – shooting a movie. She doesn’t consider promotion/publicity work per se. Like for my husband, work is being in his office. When he’s working on his work-related emails on his blackberry riding the bus, or working on his computer at home – he doesn’t count that as “work.” And of course, her humanitarian work isn’t “work.”

So of course, h8ters say ha!, liar, liar, pants on fire! ;-) And the knucklehead tabloid ‘journalists’ follow suit.

  16. jussi says:

ligaya, u are right. angelina does mean filming. angelina finished changeling in december 2007 so by the time SALT starts filming it willl have been 13-14 months since angelina was last on a film set, even the tabloids must know that’s what angelina means. promoting a movie takes a 1 night premiere and about 2-3 days max in sit down interviews and press conferences. any excuse to make angelina look bad, twist her words and generally bully her. it’s pathetic

  17. irma says:

sarita, I read the W magazine & she mentioned that Atlas Shrugged is coming closer to fruition. Angie says a script is ready & discussions are in progress with various directors, including Eastwood. That’s probably her next project after Salt. I hope, she will not completely retire from acting, hopefully, she will still be walking on the red carpet with Brad to promote his movies.
    God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.

  18. kim says:

great interview, I do believe “it is better to fade away” and as she gets older the rolls for women become less and less. Someone else will step up and take her place. Any Ideas on who that might be? Someone already out there or someone not yet discovered.

  19. Ligaya says:

The days when Angelina shot 3 movies in one year (even if it took only 4 months altogether) and promoted them the following year are probably done what with 6 young kids and a full plate as UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and other humanitarian responsibilities. I think in the long run it will be good to transition to more fulltime humanitarian and mom with an occasional/rare acting job – especially if they follow through with their plan of adding more kids. But I hope it doesn’t happen too soon. IMO, Angelina has only developed 2/3 or 3/4 of her potential as a great actress, and I’d hoped to see it bloom into full flower and leave behind a legacy of great movies. OTOH, it might be better to get some peace and leave the Bermuda X-Triangle mess behind. OTotherOH, damned if X and the tabs should be allowed to cut her profession short.

  20. jussi says:

no-one can EVER replace angelina lol! there is only one angelina jolie, no-one else i am interested in anyway. i also think angelina will do more kung-fu panda voice-overs for the kung fu panda sequel. but that is relativley easy, jolie could do that film pregnant, hint hint!

  21. jussi says:

angelina stopped doing 3 films a year from 2004-2005. in those 2 years she did MMS and the good shepard plus a week on beowulf which did not come out till late 2007. i think being in a loving relationship with brad made her care less about shooting film after film and concentrate on family, which is her choice.

  22. therealbetty says:

There is only one Angie, no comparison. She’s like old Hollywood icon – complete with fascinating personality, rumors, international appeal, diversified acting roles, tabloid-worthy personal life, etc. I don’t see that in any of the next generation actors.

I was originally a Brad fan, but I’m growing to be a bigger Angie fan. I don’t see her as just an actress. The BBC interviews she was very articulate and I can see her charisma. But she also shines as a mom and I can relate to everything she said regarding her kids and motherhood. I think being a mom to a big family makes her more calm, clear-headed, goal-oriented, and teaches her how to better deal with her celebrity status.
She won’t stop acting, but both she and Brad, because they are sought after by directors/studios, will only pick the roles they deem worth their time and effort. So if she gets into a future project, it will be a biggie with Hollywood and the press.

  23. just me says:

Before she goes into semi retirement..pls. let her play a Bond Girl, maybe Wonder Woman(call me crazy but she has the looks like Lynda Carter plus she’s athletic..maybe it’s just my fantasy of her). Either way…as long as she’s happy…that’s cool.

  24. RUBI says:

    hii
This thrusday morning, 5:35 am to be exact, i was watching bbc worls news when they show the interview with Angie, and this might not be much to some but when the report finish the anchorwoman said about Angie with admiration in her voice, “I like to see her like that, when you read the tabloids, i like to see her like that, such perfectly natural and at home” to which the anchorman agree ” theres not many people like that”. I love to see that the people that give the real news know that many can be lurid or sensational towards a star and specially towards the lovely Angie.

  25. RUBI says:

also, I agree with just me, it would be really nice to see her play a Bond girl.

  26. Ligaya says:

Thanks, Rubi. It means a lot to me, especially at this time.

Photographs of Angelina Jolie, Kate Moss and Britney Spears for sale at Christie’s

The striking image of Jolie appearing to lick blood from her lips was taken by acclaimed photographer Martin Schoeller in 2003, shortly after she adopted the first of her six children. It originally appeared in US magazine Entertainment Weekly under the headline: “Angelina Jolie Is One Tough Mother.” The picture is expected to fetch up to £20,000.

The photograph sale takes place at Christie’s in London on November 19 and is expected to realise more than £1 million in total.

  27. gena says:

I love the videos. Thanks for having the link to them. I love listening to Angie talk. Her kids and Brad are so lucky. I am glad she wants to take time to be with her family. The time she took off this year was good for her. She just seems so relaxed. I can handle her doing a movie once a year and then every two years as long as we get a picture of the family every now and then. We know the movies will tell a special story. Brad will become the bread winner and the family can travel with him. That will really make it easier for the family and they will not have to worry about the film shoots overlapping. I love the naturalness and down to earthness of Angie. She is in a class of her own. Looking at Angie and listening to her makes all the hoopla around about the “Vogue” interview disappear. I love just listening to Angie and looking at beautiful pictures of her family! I am hooked on “Changeling” I went to see it again. That would make my 5th time seeing it. Can’t wait until it comes out on video.
Angie forgot to mention that she will be doing KFP 2 also.
Beautiful woman, mom, companion and person.

  28. isacutie says:

Thank you Sherry for these clips. I do love watching and listening to her during interviews because she so articulate, and you don’t feel any “I’m a star!” quality to her at all.

On the clip when she talked about the children’s pictures, I particularly like the quote: “…but it’s how people choose to put it out there…they like to make things a little fantastic, media does, and people like to imagine it like that, I guess in some ways, but I like to think that people can see through that. I think there are a lot of people out there that” like that. Yep, media does spin tales about them, but I’m glad she knows there are people out there who does look past all that and understand that what the media puts out is really just a tiny bit of their life. We could never really know how they are in the privacy of their homes, we can only guess. I like to guess too, but in the end, I have a feeling that they truly, truly have a happy, somewhat simple life as a family. That’s what I wish for them certainly.

  29. sarahc says:

Looks to me like love has made all the difference in their lives. Family first and Hollywood comes in last.

  30. The paps wanted to drill a hole through the ceiling of their hospital room? That’s AWFUL!!! After hearing Angie’s comments, I’m actually glad they opted not to have the twins in the U.S. I’m scared to think of what may have happened if they did.

  31. Lisa says:

Loved the interview clips. She is so genuine, a real person and mom. I would love to know what their favorite bedtime books are, how they balance their time with the kids (things she said no one ever asks about)… the “normal” stuff of family life. As a mom, I find that more interesting than the sensational stuff. I saw Changeling on Saturday with my daughters (they are all over 18!) and we enjoyed it together. It was very sad of course, but inspiring with a social justice theme. As a woman, mother and lawyer, I found it an excellent story and well done. Oscar anyone?

  32. RUBI says:

You welcome Ligaya…… I feel the same.

  33. Hannah says:

foxy brown – my what a dramatic turn you put on things, i mean really.

  34. BlessBrangelina says:

Am glad she spoke up about some of the problems they had with the paps. There’s no way I would want those leeches to earn their retirement on my children either!

Hopefully some people will stop complaining about their actions.

  35. Ligaya says:

If this had been a movie instead of on tv, I think Angelina would have won an Oscar. It was the role for which she first received attention from critics – she won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and an Emmy nomination.

  39. Mary says:

She must have been busy when she was in NYC as the interviews especially with the foreign press, are now being published. Here is another one (hope it is real as it is sweet). http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,24650815-2902,00.html

    Thanks.

  40. Have a nice weekend everyone! Here is a clip that I found on youtube which I think has the best pictures of Angie and Brad looking so in love. This should be a nice change for everyone, hopefully will cool you off from the heat of the “uncool” scandal. Beautiful song, too!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpMGwCgbSmI&feature=related

  41. Mary, thanks for the link. Great interview and Angie sounds so happy. She seems to be treasuring every single minute that she has with Brad and the kids. I wish they will remain happy forever to see their children and grandchildren grow up!

  42. mélodie says:

new parts of an interview that angie done for mag from australie, it’s on jusjaredbuzznet:

    http://justjared.buzznet.com/2008/11/14/angelina-jolie-brad-pitt-eyes/

i love when angie speaks about “problems” she has to raise her kids: it shows us that she is a normal mother, and too an aware people, who care about her kids’fellings (i think the moment she spoke about Z who want “straight hair like mummy” is cute cute cute!”. in every interview they do, we can “see” that they are really really proud of the family they have created.

brad and her seem to have such a sweet relationship, with so much love around them and for each member of their family. it’s nice!

  43. Courtney says:

Hey everybody- Usmagazine is doing another Jen VS Angie poll (even though I HATE this stupid game, I still think we should all support Angie!)

  44. Mary Ann says:

I for some reason have not be able to catch up on all the news here at Pittwatch, but with the weekend coming up I hope to catch up and watch all of these clips. And I still haven’t read all the comments on the discussion thread. I certainly would miss Angie if she didn’t make films.

  45. mélodie says:

mary ann: yes, me too!!! if she wants really stop, i could cry during entir weeks!
but i think she isn’t going to do this now maybe 2 or 3 kids later ;-p
