Two bits of good Brad and Angelina news

by Sherry on August 19th, 2008

Boy, that last post was a downer, wasn’t it? Thank you to everyone for sharing your thoughts and opinions, it was much appreciated. However, here are two good news bits for us to read about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

First of all, Roseanne Barr has apologized (more or less) for her attack on Brad and Angelina the other day. I guess she was hoping for a bit of controversy and wound up a little stunned by the incredible backlash. On her blog, she wrote:

“I do not know Brangelina. I do not mean to personally impugn them as they might be good people in the flesh, but the media’s images of them are smelly and vile, and I must always attack the media’s representation of what is good or cool.

She went on to slag people like me - the bloggers and media people who immediately picked up on her attack. Please, that’s what she wanted, she just couldn’t handle the heat when so many of us rose to Brad and Angelina’s defense. I don’t mind, she can rant about me if she wants, it certainly won’t affect my life or career!

In other good news, the first group of houses for Brad Pitt’s Make It Right foundation are just about completed.

While complaints of bureaucratic sloth persist, Pitt’s foundation instead provides a striking example of a private entity taking the simplest of plans — build houses where the flood knocked them all down — from idea to execution in a relatively short time. As of today, Make It Right has raised enough money to build at least 84 houses, with an ultimate goal of financing at least 150 houses in the Lower 9th Ward, said Tom Darden, the foundation’s executive director.

Currently six homes are in the process of being built, and hopes are high that at least one will be fully completed by August 29th. Those residents have been without proper homes for so long that it’s about time they get them back - and good for Brad for being the one behind it all.

One resident even said, “the answer to our prayers — Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.”

Please check out the full article here. It’s so heart-warming, especially on the heels of accusations that the Jolie-Pitt family doesn’t do enough.

(Two administrative notes: 1. Comments that are disappearing are actually going into the moderation queue, I don’t know why you guys aren’t getting that message anymore, I’ll look into it. 2. Reader Leila from Iran - I got your emails, and I’m trying to set you up with someone who can send you People/Hello. I’m not ignoring you because of where you’re from, when I try to reply to your emails, they bounce back telling me the email address doesn’t exist.)

the damage is already done and i think that snarky remarks of her will always remain into my mind forever but it’s really good to hear that she apologized for what she wrote, Brad and Angie deserved the apology.

angela–I feel the same as you. You can’t “un-ring” the bell. You just CAN’T. Why does she have to take pot shots at their kids? I too am glad that Barr apologized. But, it leaves me feeling that it just isn’t enough. It sickening…..

This site is one of the best blogs on the Internet b/c it tries to be as positive as possible. And Roseanne’s one to talk, considering she blogs, too, and she sends out more ignorant tripe compared to other gossip sites. And it’s her fault if she buys into everything the media puts out there.

I think Roseanne was just trying to stay relevant, and her jab was just a publicity stunt, and it has worked, unfortunately at the expense of the JPs.

Also, I wish JJ posted Barr’s so-called apology. He was so quick to put up her vile rant (and accompany it with a very unsavory title). Ah well. His site has just been so disappointing lately.

I’m really grateful that this site exists. It’s 99% hate-free.

A few last thoughts, then Roseanne goes into the dustbin where she belongs. I can’t make heads or tails of her so-called apology. She’s totally incoherent.

It’s just like Roseanne to go off half-cocked with her half-baked ideas and come off like a half-wit. According to wikipedia, she’s written that she considers herself a follower of Christ - umm, which Christ is she following exactly? Could it be Satan (brows wriggling, smiling devilishly)? ;-)

She’s done this before. “I am just a big idiot with a big mouth sometimes.” Roseanne said this after she raised a big stink on April 6, 2007 on her California radio show. She basically accused gays and lesbians of being narcissists who only cared about themselves and their issues - not about others.

What a hypocrite. *She* is a blogger and part of the media she accuses of escalating the issue. *She* is a celebrity and she’s “spit out” 5 “dunces that will consume more than their fair share and wreck the earth even more. (just sayin’). ” So every celebrity-hating rant against Angelina, Brad and their kids just boomerangs back on Roseanne - only in her case, it’s true.

    Hi,

I was going to post on this topic already a few weeks ago but didn’t want to start political discussions here. But after the things Roseanne said… Sherry, what you DIDN’T post here (sorry if you did and I didn’t see it) is the fact, that Roseanne critisises that Angie said that she hasn’t decided yet whom she’ll vote for. Just the idea of voting for McCain is a little disturbing (at least for most of us Europeans). Why in the world would anybody want to vote for him (a Republican)? Hasn’t Bush (a Republican) completely destroyed world peace in the last few years? I really love Brangelina to help poor people in destroyed regions etc. But a huge load of refugees and war-victims in this world come from Bush’s stupid wars. Maybe in America nobody talks about that anymore and you can’t SEE what he has done because the media don’t show. But here in Europe we are faced with all the refugees, no matter if they come from Afghanistan or Iraque. It is really hard to see how traumatized they are. The problem is that we can’t give all of them good work to have a proper life here.

So I’m just really wondering why Angelina would say that she hasn’t decided yet!!! I mean - would Obama contunue all those wars in the world? Once again: It’s great that Angie and Brad help individually. But if you think about the billions of Dollars wasted weekly/daily on Americas wars - what if all this money could be given to the poor? So supporting a politician who doesn’t want to make the world a better and peaceful place is really a strange thing…

Sorry if you think this is an aggressive posting. But I think that was the main message in Roseannes posting: WHY IN THE WORLD A. HAS TO THINK ABOUT HER CHOICE? SHOULDN’T IT BE OBVIOUS?

I hope some of you understand what I wanted to say here, sonja

  • sonja
    Aug 20, 2008 at 12:39 am

    ps:

I was just thinking about what I wrote in the post before and want to add something:

Roseanne is a comedian, she is an intellectual. And whatever she does - she tries to show a mirror to the people (sorry, I don’t know how you call this saying in english). Comedians HAVE to go too far to be noticed so that people at least start thinking about what they have said. And maybe - if they are lucky - people will at least understand the real point of what the comedian was trying to say.

I really admit that Roseannes posting wasn’t nice at all. But, hey, it wasn’t to be taken seriously in the words she used. But in the end - she was right. It is strange that someone like Angie says that she hasn’t decided yet and wants to WAIT what the candidates say about Angies main topics. I think Obama as well as McCain have said enough so everybody should know in which directions they are going…

    :-)

Plus: Maybe there are some people who trust Angie in her choices and will vote for McCain just because she does (would do). And that’s not right.

Plus: Seriously - Angie makes so great movies about serious topics (”Pearl”). For some reason they are not sucsessfull in America. And so what does she do next? Another action movie with a lot of shooting. I don’t know if they show Eruopean movies in the US: But - have you ever seen European movies that use so many guns? Recently an Austrian movie won the Oscars for the best foreign film. It was about the horrible time with the Nazis. So we are coping with our past instead of making action movies which don’t have a point in the end…

THATS AN APOLOGY???? she still manages to use the words smelly and vile…to me it seems she was rather taken aback by the reaction she got THEN she decided to look a bit closer and saw that maybe she had let her mouth run away with her unpleasant thoughts before doing a reality check. obviously now she has seen something of the real brad and angie she feels foolish..and like a petulant child is now making excuses and saying “but i didn’t know, thats what someone told me” I’m sure that this kind of negativity would be of no importance to brad and angelina but the fact she used their children in such hurtful terms must have stung and i know comments like that will hurt the already tender heart of a woman who has just given birth…that is what i find so reprehensible about this whole thing.

Never liked Rosanne and while I think Voight has some things he needs to admit and atone for he replied perfectly
“We can never be surprised at what vile evil comes from the mouth of a confessed victim of child abuse at the hands of her own parents.

Her parents responded to the accusation by going on the air and slating she is a psychopathic liar and her sister agreed.

Her defaming of our National Anthem in 1990 gave us insight into who she is and what she is capable of saying and doing.”

Voight would have been better off to say nothing. What Barr said is not worth a response. I doubt Angie or Brad will respond.

  • Mary
    Aug 20, 2008 at 6:21 am

This good news is much better as it shows the real people, not ignorance from people who need attention (and that includes Mr. Voight’s equally silly response). Thanks for the change in subject.

This episode is right up there with other tabloid stories. Brad and Angelina have way too much class and real lives (six children are more important than blogs) to deal with and they never respond to tabloids, so why should they respond to her silliness.

As the old saying goes “don’t roll around in the mud with pigs. You get dirty and the pig has fun.”

Rosanne is like everybody else. First she insults them PERSONALLY and then she says “I don’t know them” and blames the media. That’s just B-O-R-I-N-G!!!

All in all, one should say that you have to have an open mind and an open soul. You like Brangelina?! That’s ok… but also try to see “backstage”. Idolizing them and just showing the good sides is not ok and unfortunately some people do so, too. You just have to be in balance…

Great news about the houses in New Orleans. I hope everything goes well for the rebuilding. N.O. has always had a reputation of major kick backs to do any work there. Hopefully that is a thing of the past. also with Brad’s face being tied to it it will bypass the stinch of coruption.
I think Jon Voight would do anything to get back in Angies graces. You can tell he wants to make amends and get to be a grandfather to those beautiful children. It is kinda funny that Angelina has won the fame he yearned for. anyway, I hope they work it out. It is good for all concerned. It will also be good for Ange to let go and forgive. I just love this family

    Hi Sherry!
I am from Malaysia and I have been following your blog since 2006. You are doing a superb job and we fans of Brangelina thank you for it. How you manage to do it while raising your family and doing your regular job is simply amazing.

Regarding Roseanne’s comments on Angie and Bratt, I was just so shocked to read them. All I can say is I am glad that there was a big backlash against her comments. Her apology was not really an apology. But what amazes me is how she can even make a comment like that about the pair….this coming from a woman who put up her own child for adoption (please correct me if I am wrong on this), who is never known for any charitable works — not anything of which I am aware of — and who is one of the biggest has beens…and yes, can anyone forget the disrespect she showed to the US flag? I am not an American but even I was shocked when I read about it. Booo to you Roseanne…no network wanted to talk to you but thanks to your comments on Brangelina, even you admitted that all the networks now want to talk to you…well we all know now why she put up those comments. Some people will do anything to reclaim their 5 mins of fame!

Roseanne lets her mouth run her head. Which means she’s “BRAINLESS”. Like I wrote earlier, her apology is 1/2 ass. Brad & angie deserve more than an apology. This family has done nothing or say anything bad about others. Jolie-Pitt family is the true role model for today’s society, and others in Hollywood have a lot of catch up to do.

See what the people power of Brad & Angie fans can do? Roseanne will think twice before attacking the Jolie-Pitt’s again. She is nobody, she wanted attention & she got it at the expense of Brad & Angie. Roseanne Barr is a loser. Apology is not enough, she needs to donate some of her money to charity to show how sincere she is.
On the lighter note, I’m glad Brad’s project in NOLA is going smoothly. When you build houses for the people, they will come back to New Orleans & help the City recover from Katrina.
I hope, my comment will not be under moderation, I got plenty of it lately.
Fay is moving slowly, it will be here in my area early tomorrow morning, some govt. offices will be closed, no school & I don’t have to go to work tomorrow. We are close too.

Here are great details, including quotes from the neighborhood, about the completion of some MIR houses - straight from New Orleans:

    http://www.wwltv.com/topstories/stories/wwl081908mlpitt.1443ddd7.html

“This is what I’ve been praying for,” said Gertie Leblanc, a Lower Ninth Ward neighbor. Miss Gertie says the round the clock construction next door doesn’t bother her a bit. That’s music to my ears. That’s right. I know I’m getting my neighborhood back,” she said.

“When I look at the house, I feel good all over,” said Lloyd Griffen, a home owner.

“I’m feeling elated. I’m glad to get back in the house. I’m just waiting on them to give me the keys,” said Griffen.

Lylian - the nerve of some people, no shame at all. I always prepare for h8ters’ comments on all boards except this one. They have an acute case of hypocrisy. One of their favorite things to carp about is rebuilding New Orleans where it is. I always ask why people don’t say the same thing of Floridians who also live in the hurricane zone, of Californians who live in earthquake/wildfire/mudslide/flood country, of Midwesterners with regular floods, of people living in tornado alley. IMO, it’s clear that there’s racial and class discrimination at work. All I need do is compare the government response to New Orleans with its response to the Southern California wildfires and the Midwestern floods. Not saying that they shouldn’t have help - just saying that New Orleanians needed that kind of help too.

I believe that Brad and Angie do give more than anyone else, but to get off track here I need to say that with all the good they do Angie is not showing her kids how to forgive. She has still not let her father meet her children. I know he did her wrong but who doesn’t make mistakes? I would have thought after losing her mother she would have put her past aside and let him into her life. Soon he won’t be around either. She is going to make mistakes with her own children and would she really want them to cut her out of their lives forever? That is what she is teaching them, though they probably don’t even know they have 2 grandfathers. I feel very sorry for Jon Voight and for her.

angelh - See, we don’t actually know what went on between Angelina and her father. We don’t know every moment of their history. While seeing them reconcile would be wonderful, I don’t think it’s anyone’s place to say that she should - that’s her personal decision and she’ll make it based on what she knows, which is far more than the rest of us.

And here I thought Simon Cowell wanting Brad to play him and Jenna Jamison wanting Angelina to play her in their biopics was bad enough - this tickled my sense of the ridiculous:

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt want to have a “clan” like Brad and Angelina: adopted and biological kids. “We’d be so lucky to have a clan like that,” says Heidi. She also says: “I used to want to be a missionary… Go to the U.N. for World Hunger and really, you know, not just go there for a safari, but go there to actually help.” Lord help us all. I don’t know that Angelina single-handedly (it seems to me that way) started the current movement of generosity in Hollywood, but I think she helped jump-start it. It’s wonderful when people share their wealth and spread it around – give back to the community and pay it forward.

Nicole Richie has joined the ranks of generous celebrities as she prepares for the official launch of her children’s charity with rocker boyfriend Joel Madden.

The new mum, 26, and Good Charlotte singer Madden, founded the Richie Madden Children’s Foundation as they prepared for the birth of their daughter, Harlow, in January.

The pair started out asking friends to make donations to the charity instead of giving gifts to their baby daughter, in an effort to assist struggling mothers in providing for their children.

A source tells the New York Daily News, “She’s hired some pretty high-powered consultants to advise her and put it all together. The website will be a registry, like for a bridal or shower registry, where low-income women list things they need for their babies. More well-off people will then go on and buy stuff for the children.”

I live in Thailand, I’m not so interested in celeb’s news or gossips. But, I adored both Angelina and Brad. According to me, they are one of nicest, kindest, and most generous people. I also think, they are ‘the couple from heaven’. What or how they were in their past, they mean and belong together.

I bought Hello!. I’ve never bought this kind of magazine, I bought this one only because of Them. I wanted to see how cute the twins are, and I wasn’t disappointed, they are soooo cute!
Also, all of their family look so happy including their adopted kids. God bless them all! God bless the couple live happily ever after. Amen.

By the way, sorry for my poor English, it’s not my native language.

Ligaya, it takes all kinds to make a world. Heidi and Spencer are always good for a good laugh each day. I thought her maybe getting the pope to do their vows was priceless. What a joke. As for Nicole and Joel they strike me as two people who do really care and not just doing it to look good. It appears that alot of the young stars that were having so much bad press are getting it together. I am going to try to express something here and I hope everyone understands what I am saying. The news about Clay Aiken and Ricky Martin (both favorites of mine) are now parents. Ellen and Portia got married this weekend Lindsay and Sam appear to be quite happy and all in all the press and comments are not to bad. I say if you are happy than it is not anyones business how you live your life. But my goodness if Brad and Angelina even sneeze the bitterness and hatred comes out right away. This as long as I live will always confuse me.

Kasmira, welcome to this great international communitywe have going on. Hope you will come often to Pittwatch, we have so many great discussions and so many different thoughts and ideas. So I look forward to hearing from you again. Your English is fine, just write it and we will all understand it.

Welcome, Kasmira. I’m not sure, but I think we have others from Thailand in our Pittwatch community.

I know what you mean, Mary Ann. I think there are many reasons why the JPs are unfairly reviled. I’ve thought about it for a long time, and will share my thoughts another time.

I’m very happy for everyone you mentioned. There’s been progress against homophobia, but I know there are conservative media, churches and people who are vehemently opposed to gays and lesbians.

G’night - tired from running around doing all my errands. Painful as it is, I’m tearing myself away from my Pittwatch addiction so I’ll be ready to go out of town (including my mom’s visit).
