Video Friday
I’d like to give you some videos for your Friday night viewing enjoyment.
First up - Going back to one of my favorite movies, Tomb Raider, here is a video of the training that Angelina went through in order to play Lara Croft. A lot of people refer to how her body looked in that movie, so here’s how she got it.
Keep going, there are more!
A rather entertaining video containing some scenes from various Japanese commercials including some hilarious booty-shaking dancing that he did in between takes. Yes, I said booty-shaking, come on, click on play and see!
An Angelina Jolie tribute video that I enjoyed.
And a really beautiful video about Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and their relationship together and with the kids. Also, I confess I’m partial to it because it’s set to “In the Name of Love” which is one of my favorite U2 songs.
Tonight I’m celebrating the arrival (finally!) of the weekend by getting offline and watching A Mighty Heart. It didn’t play in my little suburban area and so I haven’t had the chance to see it yet - I’m really looking forward to it!

My favorite scene in Tomb Raider II is where she is riding the horse. It is great. I also like to watch the out takes and where she learns to ride the horse. I have been riding for years and still have not tried side saddle.

thanks sherry. i love it. i have to say that this tomb raider movie angelina did made her an action star. it’s like the beginning of a new path in her career. i love it when she holds and fires a gun. she looks natural and cool. i’m sure she’s done a lot training in “wanted” - i can’t wait already.

hi maxie. really? aww… i envy you. i’ve always wanted to ride a horse but i’m scared i might fall - and get paralyzed or something like that. lol!

angela, My horse is a little over 16 hands (that is tall) and I am a little over 5′3″ (that is short ;))I have my days where I think “what am I doing?” I just love my horse soo much I can’t give up.
I admire all the different things that Angelina trys. She just puts herself out there no matter what. Her kids have a good role model.
I have done kick boxing and martial arts but I am switching to Tai Chi. No contact martial arts, the older I get the better that sounds. Cheers

Maxie - I *love* horseback riding. Nothing in the world feels like the power of a horse cantering with you. I miss it, it’s been a long time. But although I would kick a horse into a canter without a second thought, the idea of sidesaddle freaks me out. It just doesn’t seem like it’s a natural way to ride at all.
Have you seen The Princess Diaries? I love the scene where Anne Hathaway’s character pretends to ride side saddle with a fake leg. :D
maxie
Nov 2, 2007 at 7:55 pm
No I did not see that.
I agree sidesaddle looks a little unstable. To easy just to slide off. At a canter I feel like I am flying. I could talk about horses all day.

I love the features that show all the training & preparation (including a special muscle-building diet) Angelina had to do. I hate it when some people say that they can step in front of a camera cold and just do it, and that actors don’t earn their salaries. Oh, yeah? Can they do everything Angelina had to do in TR 1 & 2 and MMS?
One of my favorite scenes is when Angelina is in the peach robe praying with the monks. What a gorgeous country Cambodia is - I hope I see Angkor Wat in my lifetime.

Hey Sherry! Thanks for sending us off happy for the weekend! Hubby & I are seeing Wanted trailer/American Gangster this weekend.
You’re going to LOOOOVE AMH. These are a couple of reactions to AMH by jezebel posters:
“i watched a mighty heart and cried non-stop. throughout the movie, i wished that danny came back..”
“I just watched it last night. :( When they popped the video into the VCR, I was just like PLEASE PLEASE DON’T SHOW ANYTHING!!! and then they didn’t….and then when ‘Mariane’ found out that he was dead and walked into her room and lost it….I was sobbing.”

I saw AMH in the theatres. It was very good.
It is on par with The Constant Gardener.

I bought a copy of Tomb Raider The Cradle Of Life, I bought 2 dvd’s of A Mighty Heart, one for my own copy & the other one for my friend her x-mas gift. Now, I can’t wait to see “Wanted” next year. they showed the movie trailer tonight at Extra, they showed it on the last part. Another blockbuster movie for Angie. She is really good in action movie, I would say my favorite one is Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I hope, Brad & her do a sequel of MMS. That movie is perfect for them. Goodnight to all the fans. Thanks Sherry.

maxie, i’m also 5′3″. so you think i could do it? like be brave enough and try to ride one?! lol!
i did taekwondo when i was a lot younger but i dont have any idea of tai chi. i wanted to try muay thai (i saw it on tv and was amazed) but my friend told me its dangerous so i guess i’ll try something else - like kick boxing perhaps.

Now that I’m done wiping my eyes and blowing my nose, A Mighty Heart was spectacular. It was emotionally draining but well done and all the actors were wonderful. The scene where she finds out is insanely hard to watch and it had me sobbing hysterically.
The biggest problem for me with the movie is that I had the same issue as when I watched Flight 93. Deep down you know the ending already, how it all turns out but part of you keeps thinking that maybe just maybe it’s going to turn out okay. And then of course it doesn’t.
I’m glad it was a smaller budget independent style movie, the way it was filmed was so much better than if it had been a large budget flashy movie.

Tai chi is the first physical discipline I want to learn when hubby retires. It’s a self-defense martial art, but very gentle on the body - especially on the joints of the older body. Every age & condition can do it. It’s also calming to the mind & spirit. An overall beneficial thing to practice. I love watching groups of people do it every morning in the park - I feel peaceful just watching.

ligaya, It is like they have a beautiful secret they are sharing.
angela, it is always good to start with an old gentle horse. May not be pretty but will be safe.
sherry, I thought the film was released too soon because the tragic events happened so recently. It is fresh in our minds. People may not be ready to see it. It is a well done film.

i’ve surf the net and saw a photo of tai chi and was surprised. i thought it was like taekwondo where you have to compete with your team mates. i never thought of it as a moving form of yoga and meditation combined. lol!
now i can imagine why ligaya is enjoying watching groups of people doing it.
sherry, is the movie A Mighty Heart heavy drama? i haven’t seen it yet. if it’s a heavy drama i would watch it alone cause my brother would probably laugh when he see me cry over a film.
maxie, thanks for the advice. i think im gonna do it. wish me luck. lol!

It was interesting to hear Angie say that she thought she would never enjoy Yoga, but turns out she did very much. B/C I had the very same reaction. I was REALLY surprised at how much I love Yoga and Pilates, I am a very cranky girl if I can’t make my classes. I keep pestering my gym to have more classes, and I would love for them to add Tai Chi. I’ve only been doing Yoga for 4mths, but I’m already into the advanced class. I have lost 100 pounds and gone from a size 24 to a 14 in 1 1/2 years. I know Yoga and the other disciplines are what helped me tone everything up and loose the sizes instead of just weight. SO! Just wanted to share to encourage anybody who gets frustrated at getting in shape! And I’m trying to convert everyone to Yoga, so we can take over the world.
MuHaahahahahahahahhaahh!

With United 93, the Oliver Stone/Nick Cage/Michael Pena movie (sorry, forgot name - World Trade Center?), and AMH, people had mixed feelings about whether people were ready to see them yet. I think some people were, some people will be ready later, and some people will never ready to see such tragedies onscreen.
Spilt milk - but it really was a big mistake to open such an indie with such a tough subject matter on 1000 screens instead of the usual platform release of opening in a couple of theaters in NY/LA, then adding cities liked SF, then multiplexes/suburbs/small towns. This might have cost Angelina, Michael Winterbottom and the picture itself oscar nominations.

CONGRATULATIONS, DEANA! OUTSTANDING HARD WORK! I just signed up for Weight Watchers again (last time I lost 50 of the 100 lbs. I needed to lose before other issues got in the way).
I first heard of yoga as a college freshman in 1970. Very few people were doing it then in the U.S. I was intimidated from trying it because I thought it was mysterious & mystical & required fantastic body elasticity & only for a select few. (I feel tly the same way about pilates today.) Who knows? Maybe I’ll study yoga & pilates too!

BTW, Angelina Jolie was named Entertainment Weekly’s Ultimate Female Hottie of All Time. EW said:
“Not exactly a shocker: Oscar-winning actress/U.N. ambassador/hot mom Angelina Jolie beat out Raquel Welch (2nd place), Marilyn Monroe (3rd), and 21 other contenders to win the title of EW.com readers’ Ultimate Female Hottie.” (great slideshow of Angie’s hottest moments on ew.com)
This was an interesting poll because readers first had to vote their favorite hotties of different eras (’90s to day, ’70s & ’80s, ’60s & earlier), then the winners of those heats were voted on to get the Ultimate Hottie - Our Gurl Angelina Jolie!

Thanks for the videos Sherry!
I really enjoyed them and it proves Angelina was always pretty humanly possible.
I wish i could do all the amazing things Angelina has done. I wanna learn how to fire a gun, horse riding, and all that cool stuff. Unfortunately I am underage and have no money to afford lessons.
I’m determined to be as great as Angelina one day. Someday soon.

Angelina is such a great role model for everyone - especially for women (especially for my soon-to-be 56 y.o. self). She shows us how to be brave and take risks, be true to ourselves no matter how unpopular, be aware of our place in the world, be compassionate and generous (and not just with $$) and loving, to make mistakes & learn from them & change & grow.
Passerby, you are so lucky to be young. You have a lifetime to do what you want to do. You’re probably already like Angelina in a lot of ways - you share a lot of her values, otherwise you wouldn’t be a fan. You don’t have to become Angelina overnight - that’s pretty hard to do, even by adults with money. But over the years, step by step, you can work to follow in her footsteps.
Besides working hard (a little too much & too hard, IMO), some of things important to Angelina which you can apply to yourself as a student are: studying, reading, asking questions, and learning from reading/experience/observation/example. Expose yourself to the world, other cultures & ways of thinking & economic levels. Learn there’s more than one way of looking at things, that the media/government/corporations are not always reliable and truthful.
These all apply to me too, I just have less time than you. But better late than never.
Sorry, got carried away. :-)

Hi everyone…I just finished watching AMH and I feel transformed by this beautiful piece of storytelling about a subject that is very difficult to understand and grasp in today’s media choked world. I’m in such awe that BP & AJ had the consciousness to capture Marianne Pearl’s story so well, and to courageously get this message out: We need to understand more points of view than our own, feel more deeply for others (and ourselves!) and do whatever we can to reach for integration. Bottom line is AJ’s work for education in the humanitarian efforts to which she has dedicated her life. My prayer is that AJ & BP continue to live for that higher vision and continue to light our lives in a supreme example of getting past this tabloid media existence so many fall for…and live our life’s love — always staying focused on the big picture — making a good life while helping as much as we can with the resources and moments we are given. We have so much to share, and give… Isn’t that what makes the world go ’round? Bravo AJ and Bravo Plan B!!! This is a heart opening movie - and Thank You Marianne Pearl for helping us see through your loss to the high ground of LOVE.

Hello everybody and thank you Sherry for sharing this video. I want to add that Simon Crane is the same action person in charge of production in Lara Croft, Troy and MMS. Also, someone from JJ posted a series of slides when they were filming MMS (from JJ archives) it showed Angie playing with Maddox in between takes. When she was dressed in that Tango scene, she was carrying Madd who was just a baby during break.

Thank you ligaya. Your words are very touching.
I know I won’t be Angelina Jolie overnight. And I know I’m no Angelina Jolie now or ever. But I know I can be someone as great as her. I do try my best to value the world, understand everyone but afterall I’m still a teen so I still do stupid things. But thanks for your encouragement.

Lucy, you don’t happen to have the url for that, do you? I went to JJ archives and searched under “Tomb Raider/Lara Croft/Angelina Jolie/Maddox” (separately) but the stuff only went back to 2006.
Luuuuuv Maddox, he’s my main man - I’d love to see the pics you’re talking about.

It’s interesting how time and fame has changed her.
If you watch the first sequences of the Tomb Raider clip up there, you could tell from her body language that, by then, she still felt unsecure and uneasy.
She seems so different from what she is now, doesn’t she? Fame made her so confident!

Hello Ana - my feeling is that it has not been fame that has helped her grow…to my observation, it was responsibility she took by adopting Maddox…her growth came from mothering and seeing the ways she could help in the world. Fame is simply a means to her goal….and look at her reward!!! Maddox helped Brad see himself as a Dad. Jolie was sweeter to him because it meant instant fatherhood!

Question for Sherry, I would be interested to know why you chose Brad Pitt for your web site and when did you start this site? I know why I like him and I would love to know how you feel about him. Thank you
