Will Brad and Angelina Sell Pregnancy News for Charity?
US Weekly has started a rumor (based on the ever-elusive “source”) that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie intend to formally announce a pregnancy to the highest bidder. It’s not so they can make money, they do that well enough on their own, the money would be 100% donated to charity. This is similar in concept to when they sold the exclusive rights for the first formal photos of Shiloh Jolie-Pitt and the first formal photos of Pax Jolie-Pitt after his adoption.
Right off the bat, I have to stress the fact that this is coming from US Weekly, a magazine that has fuzzy borders between journalism and tabloid tactics. They haven’t always been overly truthful in reporting “the facts” when it comes to Brad and Angelina, something that many attribute to jealousy over not being the ones to ever get the exclusive scoop or photos. If US is saying this, then it needs to be taken with not only a grain of salt, but an entire salt shaker.
However, that being said, in my opinion there’s nothing wrong with it if it’s true. Magazines and tabloids alike are chomping at the bit to be able to officially announce another Jolie-Pitt pregnancy, whether it’s twins or one baby. Right now, several are reporting that she’s pregnant in their headlines, but it’s still just speculation based on the rumors of last week in addition to her very loose dress at the SAG Awards. Everyone wants to be able to get that first cover out there with the absolute true confirmation that they’re expecting again.
If reporters want the story that badly, why not sell it to the highest bidder? If they were just trying to make some pocket change, that would be offensive, but if they take the money to do even more good things for people who need it, I’m all for it.

but this tactic also implies that the pabs will be desperate and crazy after pics of ANgie that could reveal her pregnancy. the family will be hunted even more just for a few pics. i think it´s ridiculous playing with the press like that, but thats just IMO.
Angie is a great humanitarian, if she wanted to donate a huge amount of money, she would do it - without the help of the press.
and honestly i never believe a word US magazin prints. it´s just a tabloid and they sell copies with digusting lies.

I agree that US magazine is not more than a tabloid. They have been jealous of People magazine since they seem to get the best exclusives for the Jolie-Pitts for years. US magazine never got over the embarassement of stating that Angelina was not pregnant the same week People had photo evidence and a story to the contrary. We won’t even talk about the Shiloh photos, which I am sure they are still steaming about not getting. They might just be saying that to make Brad and Angelina look bad, because of they had been lucky enough to get the exclusive, they would have paid for it and been happy. This magazine has a horrible relationship with Brad and Angelina, which softened up a bit, but most of what they write still pretty harsh and false. They trash them more than write nice stories, so I am sure they will go back to the trashing after this episode.
Also, think about how much good selling the photos of Shiloh did. That little girl has helped to build more houses in New Orleans through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation that the US government. So, if selling pictures builds more houses, I say good for them.
All of the tabloids have run stories this week on the “pregnancy”, most pretty bizarre and none based on fact. If they choose to say anything, they will, and if not good for them. Whatever they decide to do is fine with me.

This magazines print this lies just because they are upset that they weren’t chosen to publish the pictures. They can do this all they want, Brad and Angie knows that they will be haunted for the confirmation as well as the pictures, so why not do it for the good of charity and this is exactly why I am so proud of them, they don’t do this for their own pocket like other celebrities do.

If they are indeed pregnant, they should give the right to publish their interviews to the most trusted mags. It doesn’t matter who the highest bidder but it’s for the most mags. who you can trust & rely. I salute them for doing the right thing. Giving the money earned from that will go a long way, I know it will be in millions. I am so proud to be their fan.
I got a thank you card today from Make It Right, I will put the postcard to my album, it has Brad’s name & signature. I am still waiting for my pink tote bag that I ordered.

While I don’t believe US Weekly, if it should turn out that they do give the exclusive confirmation in exchange for money for charity, it’s ok with me. After all, whether they do or not, the paps are already at them anyway. Isn’t it a bit similar to what they did when People confirmed that Angie is pregnant with Shi? They donated to Wyclef Jean’s charity or something (correct me if I’m wrong). Perhaps it’s not so much to sell to the highest bidder but to give the exclusive to a more reputable magazine (maybe People again?) and then have them donate to charity.

I understand all your points, but it just seems a little tactless….if it was for charity or not. I’d just donate my money for my charities. Truly if it was me, I WOULDN’T feel the NEED to tell everyone what my personal business was. Only those close around me would I tell. Who cares for rumors, tabloids, etc….I’d just keep my mouth quiet and enjoy life. Angie & Brad don’t owe any of us a “story” of their lives. But that’s just my opinion, which I’m allowed. Hoping they are enjoying every moment with each other & with their lovely kids.

Wether you tell the paps or not, since there’s already a rumor, their every move will be watched. Brad and Angie knows that they don’t need to say anything about their lives but the problem is the paps are always around, eventually someone will know, and I don’t think that the rumor came from anyone close to the Pitts, they are not those kind of people. To me, since they are helping the needy, they have my support, this is why God is blessing them with a good life and children.

I’m of two minds on this - one part of me thinks that it’d be odd for them to auction off the information this time when they never have before (they’ve auctioned off PHOTOS, but never the announcement to my knowledge), while the other part of me hopes that they do and that they put the money towards Brad’s charity for New Orleans!

US weekly should’ve approached the Jolie Pitts with the idea instead of publishing it. Who knows what the Jolie Pitts would’ve said if they were to come to them and said, “We’ll donate $$$$$$$ to the (name the charity) if you would give us an exclusive on the pregnancy.” Then keep it quite about it. Hummmmmmmmmmmmm Something to punder!

trying to create a negative impression by selling out ‘positive’ news which will irk people…
selling your news for charity….never gel well and US Weekly just know how to maipulate people’s mind!
but if they really going to do that…i have no issues for it…the mags are sooooo hard up for news…so why not take those money away and dump it on their favorite charities?this shud teach mags some big lessons in life!

In a way, what Doogle said is true. They don’t owe us any story, and if they really don’t want to confirm it, then we should just support them on that. It’s just that I’m sure the paps will be all over them whether they make an announcement or not, and if they decide that they might as well use that to get some funding for their charities, then I support them to. But as I mentioned previously, when People confirmed that she’s pregnant with Shi, didn’t People also donated to a charity that Angie supports. Maybe something like that would do, not a bidding but more just going to one reputable magazine and then have them make the announcement and ask them to make a donation.

They don’t really need to tell us anything. And if she is pregnant isn’t it possible she still under the 3mth rule? Couldn’t be WHY she has not said anything yet, rather than ‘playing with the media’?? charge that SOME are throwing at them??!
IF it turns out they are I do think they should just let it show, NO announcements! The press have to learn that B&A’s lives are NOT a scripted soap opera that they can tune into whenever they want!

If the money they receive pays for more homes for displaced New Orleans victims or other destitute people- then there should be no criticism. If the notion of selling rights for their pregnancy announcement seems politically incorrect, foregoing the chance to help the suffering would be morally incorrect. At the end of the day, Brad & Angie will shower their child w/ love and the wisdom to discern between what’s really important in life and what’s not.

just to address what some people have said earlier re “selling the infor (pics) when they could just give their own money to charity (sic)”.
remember when those pictures came out of brad, angelina and maddox on the beach? how much they sold for? i will paraphrase brad, that ridiculous amount of money went to make a single person rich, why not take the interest and give it to people really in need.
this couple has consistently attempted to maintain some kind of private life while balancing that with the good they can do because of the incredible amount of interest in them. because they always have cameras on them, they take the cameras to places that might not otherwise get any exposure. i do not think i would have seen namibia in quite the same light without them having shiloh there.
personally, i think they are pulling a high one with that dress. one of those, the rumour mill is going crazy, for a high one, i will wear this crazy muu muu and lol lol lol….

I see where you are coming, however I do agree with what IaTda said…..only from the stand-point of the paperazzi/public demand. If B & A were more OPEN (with news/pictures) via their own website; publishing on their own terms…the DEMAND (from paps & public) would not be SO HIGH. Then again…..as I put it in my prior post….we all don’t deserve “their story”…so I’m pulled. Really a lose/lose situation. But it’s interesting to ponder on IaTda’s thoughts…..If they (B & A) could do that (own website), overtime the paps would NOT have much business. I just feel it to be a bit tactless to “sell to the highest bidder”. As well….if they sell to the highest bidder, then they are just helping the “high demand” of their pictures/stories….continuing to enable the problem, rather than find a solution that could minimize the problem. For example….so and so paid 1 million for their story….then public purchases that magazine giving them money back and so on. So, if they start up their own website to their own pictures/announcements (due to high demand) I do agree that the demand/pressure problem (for them) would minimize. Meaning….public would turn to their website, rather than purchase so and so’s magazine. Leading to lower demand from the magazines. Which would be a wonderful thing for their family. Just a thought to ponder. Hope that makes sense….lol.

One, it’s none of our business. Two, I don’t think they’ll pay attention to any bidding because Brad and Angie seemed to trust only one mag–People. And Three, real fans should just have faith that these two have made their decisions based on their own principles with the best of intentions.

Doogle and IaTda I agree with you both. I didn’t feel comfortable with the idea of Angelina and Brad selling the annoncement just because it feels like an invasion of their privacy. The idea of having their own website that they release chosen news/pictures on is so good and makes so much sense. It would lesson the impact of any scope any magazine/website/newspaper could hope to get and would hopefully give them a bit of space to bring up their beautiful family.

but it is that very demand that generates the buzz that allows them to do the humanitarian work they are capable of.
they seem like reasonably intelligent people and i do trust their judgement on their course of action and if i understand it properly, i think it is working just fine.
a website of their own where they post pictures of themselves and their family? now THAT is selling out! i for one, hate reality tv. i like the separation they have maintained and as much as i would love to see more of them, i am glad not everything is out there.
i like these two for a number of reasons. of course they are eye candy, but they really seem to believe in and work hard for their many causes. they talk the talk and walk the walk. so if (and that is a big if!) they sell exclusive rights to something, i trust that they are choosing what works best for them.

Come on guys, this magazines are out to get this two because of what happened to Shiloh’s, specially Us Weekly, they’re just ticked that they didn’t get it. Brad and Angie are not what they play them to be, you guys know how much time alone this family wants but could not get due to paps being around all the time in their face, if the news is true God bless Brad and Angie, if not, I know that they probably are working on it. These are two intelligent people who have shown good judgment so far, and somehow, I don’t think they’d do anything that they haven’t thought out completely.

Sherry, the only problem with “what if” discussions are that people forget that they’re discussing stuff under the “what if” umbrella. Should be restated with each post, probably, as a reminder. Otherwise, it seems some people believe the lies and and are spreading their own.
As for “what if” discussions, I think the proposed topic needs to be precise so we don’t leave the door wide open for trolls - subtle or crude. I’m not against “what if” discussions, but I’m just saying.

Angelina has been donating 1/3 of her income since 2001 to the UNHCR & related causes. All we need is check their wikipedia pages & Angie’s UNHCR pages to see how generous they’ve been with their money, time and energy. (see below) Angelina donated the $12M fee from St. John’s to charities, Brad donated the Dell Superbowl ad fee too. Brad donated $5M for the Make It Right Project. The Jolie-Pitt Foundation has given millions, and Angelina & Brad constantly donate to new causes.
The idea that Angelina & Brad are tacky to think of leveraging exclusive rights to photos of their possible baby bump for charity purposes is hilarious coming from those upstanding members of society – tabs, paps, 8ters. The rumor-mongering is done by tabs & paps likely to lose out on $100,000s – millions to charities. Personally, I think it’s delicious & just desserts to have the money directed away from paps/tabs to be given to worthy causes. If, by a totally unlikely scenario, a tab negotiates the rights to publish the baby bump, I think it’s delightful to have the tabs do something good for once.

Cristine, I share your concern. I strongly disagree with laTda & Doogle’s posts.
Angelina & Brad manipulating the public? How , and in what way that benefits them personally? And don’t all celebrities/politicians/even ordinary people ‘manipulate’ the public? Ms. Holloway is an example, her family ‘manipulated’ the public & media in the hopes she would be found and not forgotten.
Let’s not swallow the kool-aid that the tabloid press & 8ers offer us. It seems some believe that the paps/tabs are reasonable people and have ethics & morals. When have they every shown that kind of behavior?
Let’s look at the different parts of this - who we’re talking about: Angelina & Brad vis-a-vis other celebs, paps/tabs, tabs’ role in costing Angelina awards/nominations, and website.
Let’s face it, Angelina & Brad are not just like other celebrities - they’re the Empress & Emperor of celebrities. Sky-high hysteria surrounds them. Because of their value to the tabs/paps in selling millions of dollars in mags & ratings, they are the top-hunted celebrities in the world. No one else has their whole package – they’re compelling, irresistible, They have beauty, sex appeal, fame, intelligence, talent, wealth, sexy hobbies like motorcycles & flying, and are active in humanitarianism & philanthropy. And in Angie’s case, there’s her wild, unconventional, colorful past: her tattoo & knife collections, strong-will, her refusal to be vanilla/white bread, outspokenness, love of danger & adventure, and refusal to be ashamed/apologetic of herself. An August 2006 survey found that 41 percent of participating 18-to-24-year-old American adults correctly identified that the couple had named their baby Shiloh. I bet that 41% don’t know their geography (where’s Iraq, Afghanistan, Canada, Mexico?), history (what happened in California in 1849?), current events (who’s running for election as POTUS). I bet 41% know that Forbes ranks ¾ of the JP kids on the most powerful, cutest children 6 & under list, and that Maddox just missed the 6 y.o. cutoff. Three out of 10 are JPs!
No wonder the JP family is being hounded & hunted. Everytime paps/tabs look at them, they see hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars.

Cristine, I share your concern. I strongly disagree with laTda & Doogle’s posts.
Angelina & Brad manipulating the public? How , and in what way that benefits them personally? And don’t all celebrities/politicians/even ordinary people ‘manipulate’ the public? Ms. Holloway is an example, her family ‘manipulated’ the public & media in the hopes she would be found and not forgotten.
Let’s not swallow the kool-aid that the tabloid press & 8ers offer us. It seems some believe that the paps/tabs are reasonable people and have ethics & morals. When have they every shown that kind of behavior?
Let’s look at the different parts of this - who we’re talking about: Angelina & Brad vis-a-vis other celebs, paps/tabs, tabs’ role in costing Angelina awards/nominations, and website.

Let’s face it, Angelina & Brad are not just like other celebrities - they’re the Empress & Emperor of celebrities. Sky-high hysteria surrounds them. Because of their value to the tabs/paps in selling millions of dollars in mags & ratings, they are the top-hunted celebrities in the world. No one else has their whole package – they’re compelling, irresistible, They have beauty, sex appeal, fame, intelligence, talent, wealth, sexy hobbies like motorcycles & flying, and are active in humanitarianism & philanthropy. And in Angie’s case, there’s her wild, unconventional, colorful past: her tattoo & knife collections, strong-will, her refusal to be vanilla/white bread, outspokenness, love of danger & adventure, and refusal to be ashamed/apologetic of herself.
